From October to March thousands of starlings flock together to perform extraordinary displays across the UK. This gallery captures the murmurations of starlings as they swirl in the sky above reed beds where they roost at night.

We have these amazing murmurations around the lake in our apartment complex, and the speed with which the birds descend into the reeds is jaw-dropping! They always mark the first sign of Fall and the first sign of Spring for us. We wonder why they only do it during those times of year. They are also accompanied by Red Winged Blackbirds in their display.

These pictures are amazing ~ but to see them in person?? Every fall we see thousands of these birds, sometimes in formations and sometimes just wave after wave after wave. The noise is almost deafening!
The starlings are murmuring, *Time to harvest your last veggies*.

Incredible pictures. I can just imagine hundred and thousands of them flying overhead - the wing beat sounds alone would be amazing! Starlings are one of those technically invasive birds that have made themselves at home, and I love seeing them flying through in the spring.

Marvellous and delightful, a bird symphony of shapes in the sky while in flight.
