Thrift and consignment shopping became popular in the wake of the recession, and four years later even with some small signs of economic recovery, second-hand shopping remains a trend

Why not? Years ago, when I had little money and supporting 2 kids, we shopped at the Thrift store.

This is one of my main strategies in survival of a downside economy. You do have to be careful & take precautions though. Contracting scabies or bed bugs from unknown previous owners saves nothing; & is no walk in the park. There is little regulation on such sales establishments; so Buyer beware!

In the 80's there was an incredible 3 stories high store in NYC called "Trash and Vaudville". They sold 50's bowling shirts for $5. What an incredible place. The goes for the Oxfam stores I used to haunt throughout England.

My youngest daughter finds some beautiful things at thrift shops! She finds things for her sisters and for me there. Great green practice! I'm not into rap but has anyone heard Seattle's Maclemore and Ryan Lewis' song "Thrift Shop?" It's pretty good! Good message, right up these lines!

I just gave a lot of clothes to a women's shelter. If I ever (probably not) need more clothes this is a great option.

'Charity shops' in the UK have been going strong since the at least the 80's and if you're patient you can find some amazing stuff. I think the Beckhams donated to a Red Cross shop in London recently!

Amazing what treasures can be found in thrift shops!!! Even better are the thrift stores run by no-kill animal shelters.
