Here's how you can affect change and help get a bill passed to make animal killing contests illegal in New York before Holley has another chance to host a "Squirrel Slam."

Wonder what they will do with all of those dead squirrels...

My Dad used to squirrel hunt, bringing them home to put meat on the table for the family of 15. He was the oldest of 13 children, so squirrel hunting was a good way to get protein for them. They only ate the gray squirrels. But they did kill the reds because the reds raided birds nests for eggs. So while this hunt is a tragic waste, there are people in the world who use the meat for food, and the skins for clothes and blankets...yes, it does taste a bit like chicken and hasn't got a wild taste to the meat.

NS& e-mails have been sent with my NY address.
*One hunter defended the event, which started eight years ago, saying it was skillful hunting*
Packs of kids and teenagers?? Skillful hunters?? Hunting animals that will only go to waste??
I agree with GGmaSheila inasmuch as where I live controlled hunting is essential to feeding some of our families and stocking the food kitchen, but this NY hunt isn't much more than a pointless contest.

How awful to see young children geared up to kill defenseless animals
The people that do this and condone these contests are sick in the head and sadistic America should be ashamed of itself for condoning these killings and knowingly turning their children in to killing machines and monsters
