The Truth About White Tigers and Why Their Breeding Needs to Stop

The white tiger is a rare pigmentation variant of the Bengal tiger. White tigers lack the pheomelanin pigment that normally gives a tiger its orange coloration, but they still produce the lighter eumelanin, and are therefore not considered to be albinos

Those who breed these tigers are not interested in the health and well being of the tiger, only the possible profits from displaying the tiger. The best way to end this might be education of the public; with warnings to not spend money on these animal displays.

Great but sad article, I didn't know what a large scale of health problems they have (Down's Syndrome!). RIP Kenny and Mohan, and as ease as possible life for Zabu.
Thank you Cher

White tigers were never a ''natural'' animal and the genes are detrimental to a tiger's survival in the wild. It's just WRONG to breed them as a novelty...for our entertainment.

Noted and Read with thanks Cher.
The AZA is trying hard to have this interbreeding stopped. I have never been in agreement of playing with nature. I felt sorry for some of the tigers, with deformities that cause them to not be able eat properly. To use these tigers as displays to make money, is deceptive.

It doesn't take a very bright bulb to see that inbreeding is a disaster waiting to happen. Hasn't anybody learned from our mistakes??

Yet another example of how the human race feels that it can exploit other animals for its' own ends. It is not only the breeders who are to blame of course, those who pay to see such 'spectacles' are every bit as much to blame. We should boycott all animal shows.
