It appears he had been used for dogfighting bait as indicated by the scratches on his face and body. Unlike most of the unfortunate dognapped, Hambone was dumped - probably because of his gentle nature - and not killed.

What a sweetie! I am so glad this story had a happy outcome. So many pitbulls in this situation don't get the happy ending they deserve.

Had to make weird facial distortions and odd noises to keep from sobbing out loud here at work. Thank you Cher, it is so rare we get to read a happy ending like this.
