Noted and thank you Mary for the forward. I hope someone will come forward with a kidney to save this little girl's life and I hope many more people will carry a donor card on them just in case something happens, God Forbid, but they also have to make sure they talked to their family about it. Otherwise they might just block their nearest and dearest's wishes. It has to be talked over with all those who are closest to them. I wish I could, but because of my medications I've been adviced against it by my Dr.

Bless you Brigitte for posting this plea for the little girl. This is my prayer for her that she may find a donor very soon and that she will heal swiftly. Practising Buddhist doctors always call upon the help and divine assistance of the World Honoured Medicine Buddha - thus I am now for the sake of this girl.

'With the Medicine Buddha mantra you can liberate numberless sentient beings from oceans of suffering and bring them to enlightenment.' - Lama Zopa. Tayata Om Bekanze Bekanze Maha BeKanze Radza Samudgate Soha
In the Bhaiṣajyaguruvaidūryaprabharāja Sūtra, the Medicine Buddha is described as having entered into a state of samadhi called "Eliminating All the Suffering and Afflictions of Sentient Beings."

I have O- blood and also have some health issues, but my kidneys as well as my liver are still in good shape. I am willing to donate a kidney should I be a match and the finances could be worked out where I do not have to come off of any money for anything. I called the number provided: It went to the Nebraska Medical Center Organ Transplant & Medical Office. They asked me the name of the little girl and all that I had was her first name, that she needed a Kidney and was 8yrs. old and a Lakota Indian.....hoping this would be able to tell them who I was referring to. Does anyone know this little girls last name? Is this little girl in Nebraska? I called the #800 number given as I cannot call out overseas. I gave them my information, blood type and list of illnesses but informed them that my Kidney's were good. They said that they would have to call me back (probably later today or tomorrow) and get back with me on this to get all of the information from me as to my health issues and also hopefully the little girls last name. Hopefully a match can be found and we can save this little girls life. Kudo's to everyone!

I can find no name, but I don't have much more time to look. Perhaps Brigitte who put story on can find more. I did find the only two Dr's for kidney treatment in the Lakotah area. The link is:

Dusty, I guess the mother is Elisha Yellow Thunder and her 8 year old daughter is called Laila Pettigrew.
I so admire you for wanting to help this little girl with this incredible generous offer. You will be both in my prayers and hope everything works out. I'm still forwarding this wherever I can, just in case, and hope a match can be found somewhere.

I just received a call back from a "Jane" of the Nebraska Medical & Organ Transplant Center who informed me that due to my Lupus and it being an auto-immune deficiency Disease that they would not be able to transplant my Kidney over to this little girl. I am so very sorry you all. I wanted to help this little girl so much and it saddens me that I cannot do so. I tried, I tried to help. I actually thought that my COPD would be the thing that got into the way but I was ready to tell her that I have had several surgeries over the last couple of years (with this being a factor) and all went well...but they were not so concerned with this as it was the Lupus. I guess that I should have known this, but I didn't. I will continue to post this far and wide as well as on Facebook and my personal e-mail site.
I wish the very best for Laila Pettigrew and her mother Elisha Yellow Thunder in their search to find a Kidney and in Laila's speedy recovery We are all pulling for you little one. God speed!

" I guess the mother is Elisha Yellow Thunder and her 8 year old daughter is called Laila Pettigrew. "

Yes, this is their names. (Thank you very much for posting them again, Vivian!!!)

They live in South Dakota, and I'm not sure if they are on the Pine Ridge or Rosebud Reservation, but I heard about Laila on the Rosebud Rez radio station a few days ago when a member of her family made another desperate plea. You can listen to it if you use one of the links in the request I posted at the top of this thread.

Also her mother, Elisha Yellow Thunder, was interviewed a few weeks ago on Claire's radio show (link also available above.)

I am afraid that for Native Americans it may be even harder to get organ donations, as they are often forgotten in the USA when it comes to medical care, justice, equality and so on. So it is really uplifting to read the responses and comments from this thread.

Prayers do make a difference, they could help this little girl too.

A lot of children and adults are waiting for an organ around the world, they need prayers also, and this is a good reminder of the importance of organ donation.

Dusty, thank you so much for trying, and for caring so much. Such a generous offer!! That would have been a wonderful gift for this little girl but the fact that you are raising awareness in your own way is also very important, so don't be sad. Thank you, thank you!

I wish you many blessings and a good health. Take good care!

Dandelion, thank you so much for all your help and for looking up the link with the specialists. I'll relay it in case they didn't have it.

Many thanks to everyone who' s noted, commented and forwarded this request. Raising awareness can only help and increases the chances of finding a kidney. Thank you for all the prayers and good thoughts you've sent for this little girl.

Laila is just one child among many who need an organ donation but each and every child is worth fighting for!!

The Royal Free Hospital London England has had ten successful transplant operations of incompatible kidneys
New treatments have been introduced including ABO blood groups so if little one has a family member with the wrong match it can still be transplanted. I am sure that somewhere in the States hospitals are doing the same
Its worth looking into Anyone who offers to donate can be matched with this new procedure incredible isnt it?
Some of you know my husband donated one of his kidneys to me nine months ago it was done at the same hospital. l I have a candle burning for little one now Thank you for informing us Brigitte please keep us posted.

Blessings and prayers beings sent to this lil one and her family
May her kidney become available immediately and her lil bod accept it!
You may think my comment about her body accepting it to be harsh, yet our family friend's daughter had a kidney transplant when young and her body rejected it 5 yrs later.
They nearly lost her twice.
Good Luck my angel!

Noted. One of the most important things you can do is to list that you are an Organ Donar on your Drivers License - if that is available in your state . You also need to let your family know it as well, and there are also forms that you can fill oit stating your wishes to be an Organ Donar. My heart goes out to this child . Being a kidney patient is difficult. My thoughts and prayers are with Laila and her family .God Bless , Little Angel !
