Terrified animals making desperate efforts to escape after having their throats cut open; others with eyes stabbed; leg tendons slashed; and being butchered while still alive... This is the nightmare endured by animals who were exported live from Australia to Egypt. If it weren't for the brave actions of one Egyptian vet who alerted Animals Australia, this cruelty may have gone completely unchallenged.

Tragically this systemic abuse occurred under the close watch of Australia's live export industry inside the 'closed-loop' facilities of Sokhna and Ismailia. These two locations represent the entire Egyptian live export supply chain and has been lauded by industry as 'state of the art'. But when Animals Australia revealed that we had obtained footage from inside these facilities, the industry immediately and loudly announced a temporary trade suspension. Yet just days later, live exporters are already making moves to re-open the live export trade to Egypt and send more animals to be killed in these same abattoirs. We cannot let this happen.

Animals shouldn't have to pay the price for the fact that the live export trade cannot be trusted to protect them from extreme cruelty. Please take urgent action to demand that animals never again be sent to these cruel destinations, and tell our political leaders to end the cruelty of live export, forever.

Just terrible, but what else is there to believe, the brutality of man is endless and he never runs out of options.
Thank you for sharing this, Ge.

Thank you, Ge. This is absolutely HORRIBLE.

Unfortunately there is a culture of animal abuse and criminal cruelty in Egypt.

This is an ongoing sickness. A culture of depravity. Egypt. Islam.

How sad. They deserve to be heavily penalized, but with the insanity of the Middle East, people will overlook this to search for anything bad about Israel, even though Israel's worst year can't compare to the evil in one day of Egypt on the fronts of human and animal rights abuses.

Islam produces heartlessness. It is cruel to people, even its own people, so why not animals.

So much human and animal suffering can be prevented if we can wipe Islam off the face of the earth. Muslims who truly love God would be our best allies in this because, once shown Allah is not God and Muhammad is not God's Prophet, they would leave Islam and passionately speak out against it like so many ex-Muslims have.

Sadistic treatment of animals is part of Halal slaughter. It is an evil practice that should not be condoned or excused . This perversion has been excused on 'religious' grounds for far too long. Animal cruelty charities should speak up now as it is happening in every country- even ours. The killing of unstunned animals is illegal in many Western societies, yet it is allowed to go on at commercial quantities and the meat sold to unsuspecting consumers many of whom would be horrified if they knew.

Once and for all - let us stop the export of live animals to these countries. If they murder their own people with impunity - why would they show kindness to animals?

I've written several times to my M.P. on this issue and have not received a satisfactory response.
The live animal export trade to places like Egypt and Indonesia, where they are subject to the most inhumane treatment and torture, must stop.
This disgusting practice makes me ashamed to be an Australian.
Thanks for posting, Ge.

This is a stain on Australia for even allowing any live animals to be sent to any of these primitive places where cruel Halal slaughter is performed - intoning the name of Allah while slitting the conscious animals' throats. The terror they must endure - the cries and the smell of blood and death. Where is the UN? OH, forgot that the biggest voting block in the UN is the OIC (Org of Islamic Countries) so nothing that would interfere with Islamic law could/would ever get through this august body. Disgusting! The inmates are running the insane asylum.

Similar reports of animal cruelty have also come out from other Islamist countries that Australia ships live animals to. Greed comes before compassion and morality every time.

There is nothing 'shocking' about this as we know what they do, as in other Muslim dominated lands, where animals are brutally abused and the barbaric Halal Islamic way of killing is cruel and painful. Animals are not allowed to be stunned first as this would go against glorious Islamic law (Sharia).

Oh how I wish the West would just turn its backs on this primitive, arrogant and brutal world, boycott it and only allow immigrants in who are truly fleeing Islamic oppression and barbarism (of course, that should be millions). We'd all be safer and maybe they'd feel a little pinch in their billions from oil and tourism and make some changes and come into the modern civilized world. Fat chance.

Please people do NOT support any of these barbaric Sharia law run countries without freedoms of speech, conscience, religion or press where women are demeaned, gays are killed and tortured, children are abused with Allah's approval, and animals are treated with such cruelty.

Don't buy their products, their oil, and don't visit them. Each time you do you are supporting their primitive barbarism. Support the more civilized countries with your money and find out which gasoline companies do not use oil from these backward lands, or even better use biofuels.
