When Hamas fires its last rocket and Israel drops its last bomb, the extent of Gaza's devastation will become clear. An early estimate is that some $5 billion will be necessary to rebuild residences and infrastructure destroyed in the recent conflict. The first step is to take United Nations Relief and Works Agency out of the equation.

UNRWA, the U.N.'s 65-year-old, internationally funded welfare organization for Palestinians, should be commended for providing much needed shelter and aid to displaced Gazans during the crisis. But given several revelations during the current conflict between Hamas and Israel, UNRWA should have no role in any negotiated arrangement regarding Gaza's reconstruction.

On three occasions rockets were found in UNRWA schools, closed for the summer, and at least once they were returned to Hamas. On another occasion, the UNRWA accused Israel of targeting civilians sheltering in a school when in fact those deaths were caused by a Hamas rocket that fell short. And on another occasion it accused Israel of targeting a shelter and civilians when in reality terrorists outside the facility were hit and civilian bodies possibly planted at the scene.

UNRWA has condemned the rockets found in its schools, but it has not condemned Hamas' firing rockets from in and around its facilities, or any other locations such as residential areas, hospital parking lots, and hotels. All these have now been documented, often reluctantly, by journalists who have left Gaza, who have also made it clear that they were subject to Hamas surveillance, harassment and intimidation. Instead, UNRWA and its spokesman Chris Gunness have tweeted accusations, voiced hollow defenses, and cried on television.

UNRWA's many responsibilities should be transferred to the Palestinian Authority, as a means of strengthening the PA practically, politically, and in the eyes of Gaza's residents. UNRWA employees should be made PA employees and international funds redirected to support its programs. This would be one of the timeliest means of rebuilding the PA in a region where it has been weakest, Gaza, and a way to begin the long overdue process of dismantling UNRWA.

I am not advocating that aid should not be given but that it should not be given to UNWRA or any other organisation that uses it mostly to buy weapons to attack Israel and ignores the needs of the Palestinians.

Over the last 9 years Gaza has received sufficient finding to build a transport infrastructure and housing as well as provide farms etc. Sadly, the money has not been used for the Gazans benefit but to line the bank accounts of the senior members of the PA and to buy weapons. It has led to civil servants not receiving their basic pay and for the utilities to be bankrupt even though Israel is still providing gas etc.

I'm not certain of the logic of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East as an "independent organization" from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. especially when it has become the largest agency of the United Nations, employing over 25,000 staff, 99% of which are locally recruited Palestinians.

As the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the 56-member Islamic nations that constitute the largest voting bloc within the U.N., they have hijacked, for the purposes of perpetrating Islam on the entire globe, no country -- except Islamic nations should be footing the bill for starting and perpetuating the misery of the Palestinians, BECAUSE, Islamic countries both told the Palestinians to leave and the Arab countries would come in a wipe out Israel (which didn't work out the way they planned).

Further, Islamic countries REFUSE to let Palestinians into their countries and assimilate -- which should be a no brainer when they all say they are Arab "brothers".

We should not be supporting the Jihadi, dystopian world that perpetuates and perpetrates crimes against not only non-Muslims, but even on their own, especially women, children and Muslims of the "wrong" sects.

If we want to end terrorism, not supporting UNRWA will go a long way in helping that. The Arab states that supposedly "love their Arab brothers" have contributed far less to the Palestinians. In fact, they can't stand Palestinians, and have used them as pawns for the Arabs' own ends.

At one time, super-Petro- Saudi Arabia were patrons of Hamas, which is the main branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, but then things started to backfire, when Muslim Brotherhood members put the Saudis in their gun sites and tried to take the royal family down.

The majority of the Arab League has condemned Hamas and wants to see them destroyed. Thus, outside of Qatar, Turkey and Iran, other Arab countries refuse to support Hamas and Palestinians in general.

If the Palestinian issue is such a contentious issue within the Islamic world, and NOBODY WANTS THEM, then we should not be paying our hard-earned tax dollars supporting what has become Palestinian Nationalist Terrorism.

I stopped donating money to the U.N. years ago. Any sane person would do the same.

jess, you are a genuine certified moron whose anti-Semitism blinds you to reality. Protecting yourself from terrorists and terrorism is not being a terrorist yourself, shelling citizens daily from within a heavily populated area is a terrorist act.

GE m -- I have seen you slander many people, you don't know and with baseless and malicious accusations. Be advised that hate speech, harassment and intent to demonize and intimidate reflect on you.
Abusive comments do not contribute to peace, justice or understanding, as far as I am concerned.
It seems you are unable to countenance or tolerate criticism of Israel's government policies and crimes.
sadly, you would rather demonize, others, and add hatred to the mix.. Do not be deceived. Such accusations, highlight the emotional disconnect and distortional mindsets, I have noticed many a time.

jess, I have always been clear that Israel is run by human beings who may make mistakes. However, unlike you, I do not support terrorists nor those that abuse the Gazans.

You attack Israel and demonize it for daring to exist and blatantly show your racist teeth whilst vomiting anti-Semitism. Hamas would be proud of the way that you spew their hatred and lies whilst pretending to be a decent caring person and failing miserably. It's a shame that you will not listen to the truth when it is given but you prefer to be blind.

This is not abuse but the truth, you have shown it repeatedly when you hurt the Gazans by refusing to condemn Hamas and their appalling atrocities committed, not just against Israelis but their own people. Also, you ignore the hatred taught by the PA to the children so that the cycle may be perpetuated. By doing so you condone the abuses heaped upon those that truly want peaced I can only hope that your god can forgive you for that.
