Richard Kade / Leonardo Digital Reviews

We've never met but I've enjoyed more than a few visits to thegreatillusion.com The idea of posting a digital gallery on the web is far from a novel one. Indeed the paintings and poetry viewed and read on this site remind one of some of the greatest classics that have delighted for ages. The best context for appreciation of the verses and artwork is already provided in the notes about the collaborators, Victor Kahn & Jim Warren. Attention is merited by one part in particular. Unlike the other companion works, many of which evoke memories of Escher's self-referential ambiguities in portraying three-dimensional sights on a two-dimensional plane, this study is most reminiscent of the works of Maxfield Parrish. To be sure, this is primitive compared to what one anticipates will be afforded on the web of a decade or two hence. But so was the pizzicato "raindrop" background effect accompanying clarinet and bassoon solos of the cadenzas in the second movement of Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scheherazade" when compared a century later to works by Alan Hovhanness such as "Fra Angelica."

A friend just sent us your website this morning, and we followed it to the end...loving each moment, word & picture. It is a magnificent site, and we will be sending it to our e-mail list across the country. As I scrolled through your beautiful website, I immediately thought, “This should be a coffee table book!” and I can’t believe some major publisher hasn’t snapped it up yet.

Vanna Bonta ....author of "Flight"
I'm transformed after reading 'The Great Illusion'. The visual and word arts are exquisite and, most important, serve truth. What a delight to find company in perception. I wanted you to know how wonderful it is for me to be so personally affected, and also to think of the liberating effects your work will create for others. Thank you and Jim Warren for your brilliant work.

Marelin the Magician ...author of "Merlin's Message"
What a glorious find ... food for the eyes and the soul intertwined.

A friend emailed to me your poetry and images. I am no poet nor artist, only an appreciative recipient. I am 74 years young, retiring psychiatrist and psychoanalist. During my formative years and long many years of practice, I learned many things; nothing can compare to the "know"ledge I learned from your work. I really, honestly believe that if any one can learn & practice your advises, guidances and counseling, they need nothing else to study!

Aidan Stiles, ..."The University of Spirituality"
The Great Illusion is astonishing, beautiful and a profound example of spiritual creativity at its best. The artistry and words stimulate the soul, allure the imagination and simply leave one awe inspired. Embarking upon the journey of the great illusion cracks open windows of awakening that allow the light of spirit to penetrate the corridors of the mind. The experience touches us deeply and helps us to awaken from the illusionary blanket of sleep and conditioned way in which we perceive reality. This is a journey that we can take repeatedly. The more times we take the journey, the wider the windows within us open and the more awakened we become. The great illusion is an example of individual spirituality at its best!

Rhonda Harman, ....author of "The Game of Life"
Today I found my way to your site, and what a blessing and beautiful experience it was. I thank you for your expression of light, love and wisdom, and sharing this to expand the consciousness of humanity.

This is a marvelous image. It reminds me of the images of the ancient Irish goddess Danu. The artist must of captured it from Jung;s universal unconscious.

"As you start on this journey, there are some things you should know,
it's all about life's mystery ...quite a magical show.
Wild waves on the water ~ a mirage of the mind,
plus words that have meaning, direction and rhyme.

You could surf through these pages, enjoying the art...
or study its reason ~ give the poems some deep thought.
What I want you to see and read in my words,
is that the real world is not obvious ...but rather absurd!

You must see through the surface to understand what is there ~
take time to reflect life, even if you don't really care.
Someday you'll be older & wiser and see,
or you'll still be a traveler on this path eternally.

Unlocking the secrets that are hidden inside,
through doors of perception ...Yourself you could find.

You can run as fast as you want to,
you can stop for every pretty face.
The real surprise is no surprise,
the turtle won the biggest race."

TY Marion yes I read the words and of course one has to agree we make our choices - there is no right or wrong in my understanding - there just is - and we either learn or we do not. Material things do not matter if we have reached the wisdom of things - but to other these things are most necessary and that is their choice - it is not for anyone to say that they are wrong and no one can be pushed into seeing what another sees is right - because as I see it what may be right for one is not necessarily right for another - this also applies to reality and to truths - there are many truths - each person is entitled to believe what they will. Thanx for the post. Love & Light

Wow! Jacklin....I feel the words you have just left here are worthy of being read & thought about as deeply as any illusionist, clairvoyant, motivational or enlightenment speaker, etc. Your words here stimulate MY thoughts, and I thank you for them!

Marion - FYI...this site takes us to Desert Gurl website instead of the artist's website. For me to see all the works, it'd be less confusing if the actual site, instead of a personal site to see it all. Thanks! :)

Well said, Jaclin. I can't agree more. Messages come from many sources and this is but one of them.

Wicked...I'm glad you pointed that out. I realized this after posting that it would have been better to point directly to the site. I'm still learning, sweetie.

Some think the moment is beyond what can change,
they are plain sick & tired ...of the hard and the strange.
Taking your medicine and calling it fate,
without trying to change it ~ is the first clear mistake.

Feeling life’s problems, its lessons & wrath,
is the first step to finding your way down this path.
All things that happen begin in your mind,
manifest in reality at just the right time....

Touch on the causes that start deep within,
below even consciousness ...well under the skin.
Look at your thinking about love, fear & death,
and you’ll see the foundations that must be addressed.

It's like psychic healing for your body & mind,
reach into the future ~ affecting mankind.
Embrace a new concept ...start and replace,
fate is the adversary that the mind can erase!

I hope you’re not thinking that all this is bunk,
or that people who believe this all must be drunk.
Poetic justice ~ comes with knowledge and faith,
the secret of livingis beyond what can change,
they are plain sick & tired ...of the hard and the strange.

Marion, many thanx for posting this enlightening website! After reading thru it and digesting the words written, it's plain to see how we're lead to believe in the 'great' illusion. Time to break the chains which hold us and allow spirit to guide our steps!
Blessings of Peace, Love & LIGHT! (lovely light which shines thru the darkest night)
Una Amor x

You know there really is still a chance for peace and that chance will definitely increase if we each do our piece. So let’s make peace -- in our homes, in our own hearts, in our relationships, in our communities, in all of our dealings and in the world. Peace be with us all.

Thoughts become things....Choose the good ones!

Heres styx- The grand Illusion :

"Welcome to the Grand illusion
Come on in and see what's happening
Pay the price, get your tickets for the show
The stage is set, the band starts playing
Suddenly your heart is pounding
Wishing secretly you were a star.

But don't be fooled by the radio
The TV or the magazines
They show you photographs of how your life should be
But they're just someone else's fantasy
So if you think your life is complete confusion
Because you never win the game
Just remember that it's a Grand illusion
And deep inside we're all the same.
We're all the same...

So if you think your life is complete confusion
Because your neighbors got it made
Just remember that it's a Grand illusion
And deep inside we're all the same.
We're all the same...

America spells competition, join us in our blind ambition
Get yourself a brand new motor car
Someday soon we'll stop to ponder what on Earth's this spell we're under
We made the grade and still we wonder who the hell we are".

MY Message - WE ARE ALL ONE, my life is my example. :):):) LOVE:):):) or not

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
VICTOR KAHN

From the beginning I was always a 'word lover'. The way the song lyrics started to have meaning and finally made the music worth thinking about. For me it all began with the Beatle's "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album. That record really changed my life! Those were the words and musical images that awakened my dreams & creative juices and 'revolutionized the world' as we knew it then. Having graduated from New York University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing ~ It was the song lyrics that elevated my mind and motivated me into a 13 year career in the music business. I designed album covers and music books; preparing the graphic images and packaging for the original Superstars of rock music. My major art, design, photography and assembly credits included multiple record album covers, posters & books for Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, The Beatle's 'Hey Jude' (plus many more as shown further below). Yes, a very nice circle to play in during the Woodstock Generation. Both for the then ultimate 'Fast Lane' and for just how wonderful it was to touch what is now sadly becoming Rock & Roll Heaven!

What it seems that we all understood in those simpler times was the meaning behind the music; not the political rhetoric. As in a true paradox it has taken us through assassination, conspiracy and lies ~ to the doors of perception of the Truth. It has brought me personally on a path of spiritual realization to my awakening.

My lyrics, poems and spiritual growth that you have been reading here was written & developed over a period of 40 years of learning. Now, all these years later, I am finally able to put all of this into a gift that can be shared and understood by everyone. All of these metaphysical thoughts & surreal images spread the meaning of life to you the readers. It now goes beyond politics, ego, music & art and touches on fate & destiny that this view of my worlds within "THE GREAT ILLUSION" have been presented here for your intellectual understanding and spiritual evolution.

The Great Illusion opens you to 'see'. It takes you beyond lifestyle, religion & philosophy. It opens you into an area where the subconscious mind actually recognizes the Universal concepts of love, harmony and manifestation. Now with all the knowledge that has been exposed to us here, we shall create a better next chapter!

............Jim Warren was the perfect artist for this piece.

Has been a favorite bed time tale for years.
Glad to see more enjoying it.

TY Marion.

Marion:

A big thanks to you amiga....

BTW: The Great Illusion is important to me in sooooo many ways....When I think of Nature Spirits that are considered as merely an illusion at best, halluciination at worst by those who sneer, scoff and make base comments of things beyond the range of their extremely limited understanding/vison/hearing.....
