In 1973, the r&b group, The Ojay's, sang the hit 'For The Love Of Money.' While watching President Bush give the speech of his life today on the financial bailout, this song was ringing in my ears. It's all here for your entertainment.

While watching Bush's 'our entire economy is in danger' speech today, several things struck me: how presidential he looked and acted, how he used financial terms and spoke to the educated masses rather than to the lower classes as he usually does, how the Texas accent was dropped, and how sincere he seemed.

Then it hit me: This man has been acting for the last 7.5 years and fooling the ignorant masses in this country. I knew that already, but not to the degree that I was now seeing. The goofy, stupid cowboy was gone. Here was a man who could be sitting around a boardroom making decisions. Now that the masses are enraged over the bailout, Bush decided to come clean and speak directly to us. What a refreshing change.

Only problem is it's a little too late.

All of a sudden I heard this song in my head. You know how songs pop up that remind you of a time long past?

And it all made sense: Bush is begging, pleading, warning, almost threatening the public that if this bailout is not approved - right away, mind you - bad, bad things will happen to all of us. Well, Mr. Bush, bad things have already happened and I'm sure they will happen anyway from the way you have gouged our country and the world. So, call your corrupt friends, put your money together and bail out Wall Street yourselves. It's your problem, we're already broke!

To replay my experience, open another window, play Bush's video on mute, and play the song above.

Enjoy!

Paul$onhasn't declared "conflict of interest" even though he's holding millions in Goldman Sachs shares ...

Why did Paul$on'$ firm: Goldman $ach$ survive???

The Long and Short of It at Goldman Sachs

Goldman Sachs sold hundreds of Billions in subprime/CDO's and shorted them at the same time.

A new analysis by Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. finds that “Wall Street banks, brokerages and hedge funds may report $460 billion in credit losses from the collapse of the subprime mortgage market, or almost four times the amount already
disclosed
.”

The degradation of accounting The folly of fair value accounting, which helped to drive up executive bonuses based on illusory values, is increasingly exposed by the US financial crisis. Goldman Sachs now has "assets" for which no market exists valued at twice the firm's capital. That route leads to insolvency.

"Your money, or your life." We know what to do when a burglar makes this demand of us, but not when God does.If you make money your god, it will plague you like the devil.
...existence has become an unreasoning, wild dance around the golden calf, a mad worship of God Mammon. In that dance and in that worship man has sacrificed all his finer qualities of the heart and soul - kindness and justice, honor and manhood, compassion and sympathy with his fellowman. just look around. :-( sadness every where. Iv been saying this money is the root of evil . greed is killing this world. man is doing it to themselves . their so greedy . noted.

Lyn...I'm with you on the beads, shells or rocks. Our money system has always troubled me. It's complex and controls almost everything about our lives. It distracts us from living our lives to the fullest. Everything has a price on it, including each person. Maybe a share and barter system would be better, much like native indians have used for centuries. This would also mean we would need to live much simpler lives. Hmmm...

Blue...These crooks are so bold these days, they come out in full daylight expecting us to swallow their blatant corruption. And no one is talking about the additional losses to be tacked on to the bailout, as well as foreign interests who are asking for a bailout too! This scandal (like Sachs) is exploding and showing that no one was minding the store for years.

Bush and Wall Street don't warrant a bailout. Bush needs to be impeached and Wall Street needs to get their rich friends to bail them out.

Many have you may have seen this powerful film, but I thought I would post it anyway. I'm sorry if it offends the religious of you out there. I might add that I went to a Catholic school and I was so brainwashed, I used to pray I would be hit by a car and killed on my way to early mass, ensuring my direct path to Heaven (Whoa, what was that about?).

http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/main.htm

It's a lot to sit through and I have only watched it in shifts. The first part is about religion, part two is about 9/11 and part three is about the money market in the US. Very, very interesting.

I’ve been listening to Paulson and Bernanke. The bottom line is that Paulson believes that in order to “save the economy”…”credit” must be available to all businesses and people in the US (and overseas investors)…and that the assets that they want to take control of would be artifically sold at a “blue sky” “hold til maturity” rate that they will in effect, make up..

Gawd. He’s saying that what is needed is to lend businesses and people…money they need, because they don’t have it….

That is the whole damn problem. Our economy is based on zero. It is based on nothing….credit..is just giving you money that you don’t have based on a made up value, and then someone else makes money off of it by charging interest on the invented value…but there is never a bottomline of value. This is so screwed up.

Give America more “blue sky”….Perhaps it is the only way to keep the scam going, but for Goddess’s sake…there is nothing backing the so called credit. It is good money after bad…what a friggin’ mess.

I’ll gladly pay you on Tuesday for a hamburger today.

Unf’ingbelievable.

Summer...I felt sick too watching Bush pandering to us, knowing that money will most likely not be recovered once the blank check is signed.

Nora...Excellent movie. I've seen it several times but I'm glad you posted it for others. Heck, I might watch it again. Too funny about Catholic school. I'm glad you survived. Catechism was all I could bear. You must have perseverance...or fear penance.

Blue...You always manage to find the small print. This is a scam worse than the other ones. To add to this sham scheme, the Treasury will be printing money for this...more Monopoly money not backed with gold. Somehow, these crooks will find a way to get Congress to give them what they want through extortion or blackmail. Cheney might even show up with his rifle.

Jollygirl and Nevaeh...Thank you for your comments too!

Thanks, Marion. I haven't actually heard this song in a long time, but for years now, I have peppered my political conversations with it, saying "And what's it all about ? 'Money, money, money - MONEY!'".

We are all (myself included) obssessed with this thing which has no existence or meaning beyond that of our mutual agreement. And for love of this human creation, the Earth, and all its creatures, LIFE itself, is devalued and destroyed.

May I remember everyday that the REAL currencies are life itself, love and generosity.

Meanwhile...I forgot how GOOD the song is. Made me want to "shake a tail-feather" !

Hi I took the words of the song you printed above and substituted the word GREED for money...nearly every line made sence to me then...this is not about national crisis; this is about the threat to Shrub and his Shabby little money grubbing mates...9/11 left him unmoved, a million dead in Iraq left him unmoved, criminal kidnapping ona vast scale left him unmoved...but a threat to the stocks of him and his backers...and POW you have a national crisis.

What an irksome transparent little tike he is!

Lamiri...I agree with you. However, I fear you may one day get that wish for all the wrong reasons.

David...Well said!!

Nora, Robert, Joycey and Mairead...Thank you all for your input.

I think the majority of people in this country and around the world feel as we do about money. While we try to do the best we can with what we have, sharing it with others to improve their lives as well, it is disgusting and immoral what our so-called leaders do with our hard-earned money.

As Pamylle said, we are obsessed with it and have agreed to this exchange system. Well, we don't have to fully accept it. If this is what the crooks want so badly, don't give it to them. Use your car less, bike and walk more. Grow a garden, consume less, don't buy into the commercial system they have devised, promote and thrive on. Boycott those companies and products that go against your values and beliefs. Talk to those in your circle about this and ask them to do the same. We don't have to take this lying down.

I heard an analyst on the BBC last night saying that by warehousing this debt, we're only putting off the collapse for a few years, not solving the problem.

So while Bush may have sounded forthright and honest (oh c'mon, we should all know better by now), what he was really doing was giving his buddies the bailout he was given when he ran his businesses into the ground, and giving Obama a big fat time bomb to deal with as president.

I don't think Obama has any compunctions debating the economy with McCain, but McCain, because of the moldering foundation his party sits on, is incapable of withstanding the scrutiny Obama would bring to the argument.

Marion Y. (287)
Thursday September 25, 2008, 11:40 am
Thank you, Christine. It irks me too, but it looks as though Bush may get his wish after all. Congress seems to have reached an agreement and still working out details. Upsetting.

Al...I agree. Bush and the necons are determined to completely trash America before leaving and maintain as much control of the few pennies we have left for years to come. After this election, I will be putting my energy toward eliminating the democratic and republican parties, which are merely two sides of the same coin. I will also work toward eliminating the illegal Federal Reserve, throwing out congress, restructuring government until it has no resemblance to our current corrupt system. If a sack of flour has some boll weevils in it, the entire sack must be destroyed.

Yes, McCain isn't ready to debate on the economy, the war (his strong point?) or face questions on his judgment (Palin), deregulation, associations (Gramm, Davis, AIG) and all the hits that just keep on giving. Most of all, he's dropping like a rock in the polls and needs time to regroup.

Marion Y. (287)
Thursday September 25, 2008, 11:45 am
Al, I forgot to mention...

Yes, we are only putting off the inevitable collapse with this bailout, and the repercussions will be far worse down the road. BushCo knows it, but they'll all be around the pool laughing at us on their expansive lands in South America.

But...as Bush used to say, "You can run, but you can't hide." He's made huge numbers of enemies around the world. He better live in a bullet and bomb proof environment from here on. He will never have the freedom to walk around freely like Clinton.

I may be getting a bit old, but it sounded like the tune of his speech to the nation about coughing up billions of their money ( not his money or his mates you will notice) to save the nation sounded a bit like his :If your not with us then you must be against us" speech, after 911 when it appeared that the majority did not believe his lies.

China has stopped lending to US banks.. See another Care2 news article about that. If the rest of the world follows and stops buying Treasuries, the troops will be home VERY SOON, as that is what is driving the Iraq war... A collapse might be just what we need.

Also, please note the following; if we handed out $400,000 GRANT to each adult, that would total only $80 Billion dollars. Let the large monopolistic corporations fail, and start over fresh with small companies. Why not bail US OUT, instead of the corrupt corporations?

Mamabear...If McCain doesn't show for the debate, Obama needs to place a cardboard cutout of McCain across the table and debate with that.

Nikolas...I agree, Bush is desperate and trying to threaten Americans WITH OUR MONEY. “If money isn’t loosened up, this sucker could go down,” President Bush declared Thursday as he watched the $700 billion bailout package fall apart before his eyes, according to one person in the room. What could go down? An economic collapse that you, Mr. Bush, engineered?

Serge...Love your calm insight. As you said elsewhere, "we've got them on the run" and we have nothing to fear.

Eric...Thank you for this news. Yes, we need to let events unfold without manipulating them. By having our soldiers home and resources used here at home, we can gradually heal this nation.

Your example of a handout to each adult is an eye-opener. Seeing what welfare has done to people, a more creative way would be needed to ensure it goes for good. For instance, guarantee each person an education, healthcare and security when old or sick. Put that money in jobs and alternative energy, research and ways so we can get off this horrendous money system that is not aligned with our values. People don't really want handouts. They want work (or something to do) and the ability to enjoy their families and live their lives in peace and with dignity.

Money that makes the world go round. Someone once said that. But the fact is it doesnt make the world go round, it makes us all depend on a world governed by money.

It is the number 1 reason why we are all stuck in this mess. It doesnt matter who has the most or who should have more than the other, the problem is still there, we are still trapped in it.

You can have lots of it but only when you have less of it will you understand the big deal in it. You begin to realize you are in a great scam that is not run by rich sods such as the Rockefellers no. They are still just the greedy sods in the system.

We are all trapped by money because money no matter how one looks at it is all you know on how to make a living, how to "earn" a living as in to have the right to live because of a stupid thing called money.

Anyone who has seen the full ZEITGEIST film will understand what I am talking about just like the link shown from Lora J.
ZEITGEIST is a big time wake up call that not everyone has woken up to.

The messege at the end of ZEITGEIST;

The most incredible aspect of all, these totalitarian elements will not be forged upon the people, the people will demand them. For the social manipulation of society through the generation of fear and devision has completely detached humans from their sense of power and reality. A process which has been going on for centuries if not millenias. Religion, patriotism, race, wealth, class and every other form of arbitrary seperatist identification thus concede has served to create a controlled population utterly maluable (manageable) in the hands of the few.
DIVIDE AND CONQUER is the motto. And as long as people continue to see themselves as seperate from everything else they lend themselves to being enslaved. The men behind the curtain know this, and they also know that if people ever realized the truth of their relationship to NATURE and the truth of their personal power, the entire manufactured zeitgeist they prey upon will collapse like a house of cards.

That pretty much explains it and no joke either. Everyone still needs to wake up everyone that did watch the film would know straight away what is the point of voting when they dont care?

What is the point of signing petitions if the receivers dont care?

Because they dont and you all still think you do make a difference by following the belief that they will listen.

Obama does not care, Mcain doesnt care, Bush knows we dont care and he knows we are all angered by him and do you all know why?

Because he wants you to. Sarah Palin that stain is yet another one who loves to get people angry, she is doing the same thing, to get you annoyed at her so you then have Barack Obama!

Oh but its not over yet no no. Now it gets interesting with Obama, rumours say he is now for animal rights thats a new one.

But he aint for animal rights and its a terrible attempt to get certain people to vote for him but not all of us are easily fooled by him and his buddies behind him.

I know he is lying, the little sod. Sure he into animal welfare but only the naive think that animal welfare is animal rights wake up because it is not!

Look up what he is said to stand for look up what the laws he is said to be backing not one of them ever says to even try and end the use of animals, only to be kinder.
People who do bother to read up the facts know for a fact such as myself those laws have always been in effect and never ever got even close to the end of animal exploitation.

Animal welfare is about protecting the industries employers and employees NOT the animals used, tortured and killed.

But its not just about that side of things or it wasnt until I started snooping around.
Overall he is another tool to get peoples attention. People of any side of any argument need to realize that its all manipulation.

Barack Obama: I stand for...

Bullsh*t!

Problem reaction solution;

Problem, the people are angered at something say they are becoming aware of a farce in the dictatorship of someone such as Bush or anyone in power or that things have become bad so bad the people are reacting to it.

The people start reacting by protests, strikes and other things they do in hope to acheive a result for better outcome.

Solution, they produce 3 candidats, one who is a right slapper, another with a case of say money troubles and a seedy past then of course the golden boy.

But you dont want to make it that easy no no too obvious so you let the candidates argue over many issues each having many views. Let the people react to each one then the golden boy finally speaks out with that all too familiar grin that Tony Blair would be proud of, the words everyone wants to hear and then the candidate is elected.

Can Obama come save the day? Dont know apparently he was targeted by someone something to do with a racist attack on Obama...

Bullsh*t!

Do you know what the authorities found in the attackers car? A rifle oh well thats it right there then hes the assasin, but wait theres more. Drugs? Why drugs? Yop dont want to be carrying that stuff around now do you especially when you need to be clear headed for the shooting.
Oh and all of it including the rifle were in the boot of the car. Well thats just clever that isnt it!

Its all a stage to get people to now feel sorry for Obama. They play the racist card and why? Because people dont like racism and they also remember someone who was once shot for aparently knowing something. JFK?
What about that other dude a dark skinned fellow what was his name?

Well Im sure you all know what Im getting at. Its all a stage and people are entertained by it because they believe it.

Stop believing the jokers because the joke is on you all who believe in the system.
How much more abuse are the people going to suffer until they wake themselves up and realize nothing ever changes?

Money, religion, politics and government powers. All of it is designed to screw you because you let yourselves get screwed everytime!

Dear carlon,

Send a Message to your Representative to start over and pass a New Deal for Main Street

They said it couldn't be done, but it HAS been done, by you and other TrueMajority members. At 2:05 pm today, the House voted down the taxpayer bailout of Wall Street. The stock market predictably dropped on the news that investment companies won't be getting our money, and the pundits will be getting all exercised about it. Here's what you should do about that:

Take a deep breath.

And then send a message to Congress to start focusing on the real fixes we need.

Wall Street has actually convinced a lot of us that what's good for the Dow Jones Average is good for us real people. But for eight years while bankers raked in billions, ordinary Americans have seen their real wages drop, jobs sent overseas, health insurance rates skyrocket, and now thousands are losing their homes.

We need our government to actively work for US in fixing this mess, so let's tell Congress it's time to start over and pass a New Deal for Main Street.

That means:

* Putting real regulations back on runaway financial corporations, and taking an ownership stake in exchange for any taxpayer support
* Providing mortgage relief so ordinary Americans stop losing their homes
* Putting millions to work by investing in new green jobs and infrastructure
* Investing in a health care plan to cover everyone

This debate is not over, so jump into it now. At long last it's become obvious what kind of country de-regulation and taxbreaks for corporations creates. People are re-considering our priorities as a nation. Speak up for yours.

Thanks,

-Matt

ALERT- Call Congress Now to Expand Jobless Benefits Before the Elections Recess

Friends --

This afternoon, the House of Representatives failed to pass the bailout legislation, which means both the Congress will stay in session for a least another fews days before leaving town for the election recess. That gives us one last chance to make the case to all members of Congress that before leaving town for the recess, the Congress and the President must expand federal benefits for jobless workers, helping the 800,000 workers who are rescheduled to run out of their limited 13 weeks of assistance in less than one week (October 5th), and the many more who will run out of their benefits by the end of the year.

BUT IT CANNOT HAPPEN WITHOUT YOUR HELP! Your Senators and Representatives in Congress need to hear loud and clear from you, your friends and your family, your neighbors and your community -- they need to know that they CANNOT leave town without passing an unemployment compensation extension. Please call 1-888-245-0215 and ask to speak to your members of Congress. Tell them they MUST extend unemployment benefits before they come home for election season by passing S. 3507 in the Senate and H.R. 6867 in the House of Representatives.

And spread the word – ask everyone you know to use this toll-free number, generously provided by the Coalition on Human Needs, and let’s make sure Congress takes care of unemployed workers.
