Below is an mail sent to Story of Stuff Subscribers July 3, 2008. The video has now had over three million views online, and that doesn't count the numbers of people who have seen public or private showings of the DVD. Since many Care2 activists have helped spread the word, I think we deserve a small portion of the credit. Sood news indeed! But we have to keep telling people. If you haven't done so yet, watch the video online

The Story of Stuff

then order the DVD and arrange showings at your local library, schools, churches, community groups and everywhere else you can think of. This is one of the best educational tools we have for waking people up. Use it!

The Good Stuff: Newsletter
Issue No.1 July, 2008

Dear Story of Stuff Community -

At last, we are taking a moment from the flurry of sharing the Story, distributing the Story, organizing a team to address the responses, answering e-mails, and fundraising (whew). Now we're stopping to say "Thank You!" to all of you, our nearly 20,000 newsletter subscribers. You have signed up to hear what we're up to and, finally, here is our first newsletter. We deeply appreciate your interest and enthusiasm for the Story of Stuff and its message. And, we look forward to working with you to spread the word, take actions in communities around the world, and change the Story.

It's been a whirlwind. We have now passed 3 million views in 217+ countries. It's safe to say we hadn't expected such a response, but we're thrilled. Because of the incredible, energetic response from all of you, we're working on a plan to develop the Story of Stuff Project to harness this momentum and help create supporters and communities taking action around the globe.

Here are some updates on what's happening now...

International Website, DVD orders, and Teachers...

We are currently fundraising to support our soon-to-be released International Page which will have translations in seven languages (and offers to help translate many more). We hope to have more detailed dates and news about the translations in our June newsletter.

Our friends at the Hesperian Foundation have volunteered to help distribute the DVD's so you can copy, screen, share with your friends, family, organizations and communities. The initial DVD distribution demand was so overwhelming, we made some mistakes. If you were someone who didn't get your DVD when you needed it, we are so sorry. If you still haven't gotten your DVD, please e-mail Allison Cook at stuff.for.allison@gmail.com and we'll resolve it right away. Thanks for your patience.

We've had a huge response from schools and teachers. Thanks so much for all of your enthusiasm for sharing this in schools around the world. We're working with Facing the Future: People and the Planet, a non-profit education organization that provides resources and action opportunities on global issues and sustainability for teachers, students and the public. They're helping us to put together a curriculum for use in classrooms. Stay tuned; we'll have more information on this in upcoming newsletters.

If you know any organizations or individuals who would like to support the Story of Stuff as we move forward-from translating to building communities and supporting actions- (or if you would like to), please contact us or click here to make a donation.

Sincerely,

Story of Stuff

Thanks for sharing that with us. I love The Story of Stuff website! It makes so much sense to me and is a concept that we should be sharing with everyone we know, especially people who seem to be obsessed with acquiring 'stuff'.
