Fukushima...Radiation So High - Even Robots Not Safe

Beyond Nuclear joins Thom Hartmann. More than a year into the nuclear crisis at Fukushima - radiation levels have now reached highest point yet. What does all this mean, what should nuclear supporters in America be taking away from the continuing crisis?

Let's be sensible and reduce our consumption of energy. The damages from nuclear power are horrifying.

save the robots!!! send in humans instead, at least those humans who keep trying to tell us nuclear power is safe.

America's media and elected officials are dangerously quiet about this truth but touting war with Iran, Syria, and boring US with the next election clowns who are more then an embarrassment.

Not good news but so important to know.
Calcium bentonite clay has (Chernobyl) and can be used to mitigate the effects of radiation.

Nascent Iodine is also very good protection for the thyroid.

> ..mitigate the effects of radiation..
> .. Iodine is also very good protection for the thyroid ..
folks, get real: with all menas available (i'll not even further comment on 'nsacent' I) the effects of radiation CAN be mitigated .... about as much as the damage of bombing a city can be mitigated by droppinv a few band aids
> The damages from nuclear power are horrifying.
and so are the damages from all other forms of large-scale power generation
even the 'cleanest' ones (like hydropower, which for the very least destroys landscapes) are not sustainable, and hardly further expandable.

If humankind is to have a decent future, we need to combine all efforts (not only some 'cheap and easy' ones), inlcuding (but noit limited to) reducing per-capita-consumption (esp. in the "developed" parts) AND reducing our numbers AND switching to 'greener' (i.e. less 'red') methods, and .... whatever else we can think of; and we eought havce done it 2 decades ago.
PS, btw:
meine PCs sind recycled und werden mit betrieben
my PCs are recycled (over 10 years old) and run on the 'greenes' electricity money can buy around here these days ... yours ?

And who still wants to build more nuclear power plants? Reducing of consumption and investing in new renewable forms of producing energy - that's the only way.

In the US nuclear power only supplies 19% of our electricity (15% worldwide). Even already practicing energy conservation at home, over the past few years I was able to reduce that amount by about another 25% rather easily. If people weren't so selfish and wasteful we could eliminate all need for nuclear energy today.

This is so sad for a generation of more childern that will see a increase of cancer, cancer rates have jumped since the Fukushima melt down. The governments are lying, Greed will be priority.

So right Bill...It is $afe $afe $afe....and I have a bridge in S.F. that I sell ya really cheap...a landmark so best hurry and consider my offering to sell it......

Now the fall out is over the U.S. in a bigger way than most want to know , must less admit....and we have so many within our borders just waiting to melt down just as that plant did...on our coast lines even. Think the robots need saving as they might have better sense if they can compute without human interference ...perhaps one of these days that will come to be..but for now...find health care anyway you can as we're all going to need a lot of it by the time Corporates finish polluting and melting away our enviorment...air/food/water etc..

Gr$$d has no conscience, And these fools who serve gr$$dy agendas think they're safe because these cancer causing plants, towers, electrical lines are not in their neighborhoods.. Unless they are some sort of humanoid they will and so too will their families eventually feel the effects of contamination from fall out as it makes it's way, not dissipating mind you, around the planet..

Then there's the food we eat! If not poisoned by oil and the poison added to dissipate the oil, then radiated by the constant dumping, accident or not, into the oceans. America has become a B movie! And not a very good one at that! At least you can walk away from a B movie. But you can't walk away from this insanity that's corrupting every form of life on this fragile planet.!

It's mind blowing that we have not done more in the way of wind and solar energy. Jimmy Carter had it right and he was soon out of office for his many sensible ideas.

there's no doubt in my mind that there's intelligent leadership somewhere in this vast universe but it does not reside on Planet Earth.

Fukushima Radiation Spreads Across Pacific Ocean

Excerpt: "adioactive material from the Fukushima nuclear disaster has been found in tiny sea creatures and ocean water some 186 miles (300 kilometers) off the coast of Japan, revealing the extent of the release and the direction pollutants might take in a future environmental disaster.

In some places, the researchers from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) discovered cesium radiation hundreds to thousands of times higher than would be expected naturally, with ocean eddies and larger currents both guiding the "radioactive debris" and concentrating it.

With these results, detailed today (April 2) in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the team estimates it will take at least a year or two for the radioactive material released at Fukushima to get across the Pacific Ocean. And that information is useful when looking at all the other pollutants and debris released as a result of the tsunami that destroyed towns up and down the eastern coast of Japan.

"We saw a telephone pole," study leader Ken Buesseler, a marine chemist and oceanographer at WHOI, told LiveScience. "There were lots of chemical plants. A lot of stuff got washed into the ocean." [Japan Nuclear Radiation Shows Up in US (Infographic)]

Drifting Radiation

The Tohoku earthquake and tsunami of March 11, 2011, led to large releases of radioactive elements from the Fukushima Dai-ichi power plants into the Pacific Ocean. To find out how that radiation spread in the waters off Japan, in June researchers released "drifters" - small monitoring devices that move with the current and take measurements of the surrounding water.

The drifters are tracked via GPS, showing the direction of currents over a period of about five months. Meanwhile, the team also took samples of zooplankton (tiny floating animals) and fish, measuring the concentration of radioactive cesium in the water." More at link.............

"Fukushima has already nuked the USA and probably the rest of this world." Statement on video.

Seems the only smart Country was Germany that made a major decision after Fukushima to leave the nuclear energy behind. Seems they learned something.

Good question. If the plants are all shut down in Japan and the lights are still on, why are they still wanting to put back online the nuclear plants shut down for maintenance?

So people where is everyone in the USA? Still trying to figure out who is winning the next Amercian Idol? It will not matter much when they can't sing any more due to cancer of the throat.

"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."
Albert Einstein

I just wish I didn't have to share the same planet with all the idiots.

Bill K. I enjoyed your comment (both actually, but ENJOYED the one posted April 2nd.)
Aren't humans intelligent, they come up with great ways to destroy EARTH and its inhabitants. Oh and they refuse to learn from history

Don't forget that the seafood is deemed safe by the same people who are telling us the power plant is safe. ARRRRGH!
