As well as being unethical, animal models of pain are simplistic and fail to replicate the multi-dimensional experience of human pain with its complex genetic, biological and psychological aspects.

some of Britain's most respected and esteemed professors in pain research [7] took part in a unique workshop to look at ways to replace animal experiments with cutting-edge technology. The workshop was organised by Focus on Alternatives [8], a coalition of not-for-profit organisations funding or promoting alternatives to animal experiments.

Excellent find Susan:)
Noted with the greatest of thanks.

Living in pain I do wish they would USE these techniques to explore the possibilities of helping humans. It is way past time for them to QUIT using animals for research for sure!!! I never quite understood why they did it anyway. Noted with thanks Susan!

It would be lovely if there would come a day when animals were not used in experiments. Thanks for the article.

A hopeful article, but we keep on seeing articles like this - for, heaven's sake,WHEN is it going to be put into practice!Reading the horrific descriptions of the pain-inducing techniques was really upsetting.
Thanks,Susan, and several friends for the forward.

for the sake of the abused animals and suffering people, what is taking so long to adopt these advanced procedures worldwide? our researchers know this is better for all concerned, useless, painful testing on animals does nothing to help people, just amazing that vivisection still continues.
ty Kathy for forward, thy Susan for posting.

About the hold up on the non animal research.

Why do you think they so slow? Do they really care? Are they really going to replace the exploitation?

Some have heard the EU is cutting out the cosmetics part but like people say; why so long to take effect?

Money. The human exploitation via means of excuses to still use animals as the "models" or research and keep people sick and misled.

You dont need those idiotic scientists telling us all what they think they know when in fact they know nothing.

The only thing patients need to know is what they dont know.

You dont need some treatment, or some docter telling you youve got this because they dont have a clue themselves why they are sick in any way.

You want to end animal experimentations, you want to put them exploiters out of business then get back to nature because thats where all the cures always come from.
