Through Friday morning, 55% of the wolves were taken by trappers using foothold traps, the remainder by hunters using firearms. The use of dogs to hunt wolves drew a lawsuit and was prevented this season as the case is decided in Dane County Circuit Court

They crying cause they could NOT USE DOGS! And those TRAPPING NUMBERS ARE LIES.... The DNR has them BLUFFED... ... the wolves killed are way over 116 and the trapping incidentals are 75% ... so when we get into court we have MUCH to bring out.... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

WISCONSIN : Some reprieve for wolves at last....

Inaugural wolf hunting season closes Sunday evening....

MADISON, Wis. - As the first modern wolf hunting season in Wisconsin comes to a close, Kurt Thiede, DNR Lands Division Administrator says they've learned a lot.

"We have learned much about hunter and trapper success rates, and will learn more as we analyze additional data. This will help us draft permanent rules and the long-term management of our wolf population," said Thiede in a news release from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

Wolf harvest zone three shuts down as of 5:00 Sunday evening.

It's the last of the six zones to shut down for the season.

The total harvest for the state was 115.

Total in just zone three alone was 18, but when wolf number 17 was caught, the closure process began.

Any wolves harvested up until 5p Sunday will need to be called in within 24 hours at 1-855-299-9653.

A reprieve for now, yes, but none for humanity ! When I read this, I feel hopeless about people. I can't even get past the language they use - harvest, submitting the carcass - absolutely numbing, Just chilled to the bone.

If the meat eaters did not consider animals as just another crop, how could they go on? I don't think they can allow themselves tot think of what they do. When one of them asked me why I won't eat meat and I answered that I have many moral reasons, I was told that everyone has my feeling, most just choose to not think about it. How can you not think about it?

I read this in the Tribune today-the whole wolf hunt in itself i find maddening and inexcuseable, I have and will continue to sign any and all petitions put on here in regards to any wolf hunts-I have deep respect for these creatures and when i see what has happened this year-it makes me sick. Thank goodness though,it will at least be over for this year.

Makes you just shake your head and turn away, cause facing it would be a volitile situation.. Debbie, they are not worth it. That is the reaction they strive for.. and your better then that

This is great that it ended, at least. It never should have started. RIP all those beautiful wolves murdered by sick hunters.

Leave it to humans to go hunt down creatures and find excuses by proclaiming their viciousness. Hypocrites. Honestly. I mean, I'm not guiltless. I'm no vegetarian. But I shop for free range chickens, and we raise chickens as pets so we know where our eggs are coming from. But this just makes me mad ...what's the point? There is no upside to this.

RIP precious wolves. We tried to save you. I am sorry you were hunted. It's unbearable to think you were trapped. I am sorry for all the wolf mates and babies that suffered when you crossed Rainbow Bridge. The Lord has received you and no one will ever hurt you again.
Dear G-d I pray for divine order; that species will be too populous and no species will be endangered. Please give us the wisdom to live in peace without violence and greed.

Advocating for wolves and whales is close to a passion for me. I do hope there is such a thing as Karma, "instant Karma," would be good, and that these bastards come back as rabbits in a wolf infested forest.

Thanks everyone for all the support of the wolves. We have lost so many in this slaughter. Our wolves we had as our personal pack were killed during this slaughter. My mother has been a voice for animals since before I was born and I will raise my children to be the same. I am proud to be an animal activist and my mother is and has been my hero. She say's her life is full of fails. I have written my Theosis based upon her and she was totally embarrassed, she see's herself as a team member and never puts herself above anyone. This makes her a leader in my eyes and the eyes of the thousands of follower'ers. World wide we have people who know my mother and she refuses to accept that. She wants no one looking up to her, she wants attention to the animals and now wants all focus upon the wolves. This is why I always call my mom my hero and she gets mad at me, mom you are my hero, and I am sorry we lost our wolves. may Wisconsin and Governot Walker Feel the WRATH of The Movement OF the WOLVES! SPEAK LOUD WOLVES!

The psychological profile of serial killers is consistent with the characteristic traits of hunters . . . . Why is Wisconsin promoting serial killing? This is just wrong and I hope people contact their law makers about this.

Noted. It's disgusting that it was allowed to begin in the first place, and trapping in general should be outlawed immediately, for any reason. Roxy, your reaction to all this is so admirable. All of us should have your temperament. You are right. The other side wishes to make us out to be extremists, which is exactly what they are. Thanks for being so brave, so passionate, but also so reasonable.
