EDIT:
Sorry, I made a mistake:

http://donotmail.org/form.php?id=50 : this is not the petition link, it's their opt-out tool to help you stop your junk mail. (Fill in the form though, it's useful!)

Click on "The Petition" to sign the petition! :)

It takes more than 100 million trees to produce the amount of junk mail that arrives in American mailboxes each year!

Incase you ever forget how messed up things are, you can think of this.

Good idea to stop the junk mail and destruction for the forests because of companies that want to sell, sell, sell creating a paper tsunami. I signed the petition, but of course the information page is not encrypted. Don't they care, or will they sell the information to marketers? Just wondering.

Please also sign my petition urging congress to convert all paper material to recycled an tree-free paper. It is located at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/petition/970619374 The government uses so much paper and mails out endless documents, you would think that they would be smart enough to figure this out.

Thank you

Noted, and both petitions signed.

I read that the Post Office is lobbying against this since junk mail is what mostly keeps them in business these days. Shame on them.

What a great idea. I have gotten onto some catalog mailing lists, and I can't get them to stop sending some of the catalogs. At least using the tools from the opt-out list will stop some junk mail. I'll sign the petition. I feel like I'm murdering trees and it's not my fault.

I am going to sign this immediately. My box fills with unwanted JUNK mail, even regular mail is old world and wasteful. Am getting bank statements, bills, etc. via email as much as possible. Safeway flyers are especially wasteful, I never look at them and get about 1 a week!

I saw this a few days ago. Bear in mind who is really behind mass mailings, and I'm not talking advertisers, either.

I'm referring to our uncle, Sam, i.e. the Post Office and revenue from the advertisers. As long as the postal service collects money from mass mailing we will need some backbone in congress to push this through.

The bottom line? Perhaps two or three cents per stamp. Think about it: that's going to save quite a few forests!
