The biolistics (the shotgun) technique introduces an *unknown* variety of genes into the target species. So when they're trying to get the "drought" gene incorporated into the target plant species they actually have *no*idea* about what other genes might or might not have been fired in there and been incorporated at the same time. This likely explains why the cattle of farmers in India that were set to forage in the fields after the GMO Btcotton crops had been harvested (a pre-GMO practice) died after eating the Btcotton plants.

"Studies and field observations in Andhra Pradesh and other states in India show that sheep, goats, cattle and buffalo populations exhibit morbidity and mortality after continuous and cumulative exposure to Bt Cotton (leaves, bolls, seeds, seed-cake). Similar observations have now been done over several successive years, with the first reports occurring in 2004-2005, about 2 years after the commercial release of Bt cotton in India."

interesting
but not a well-written article.

e.g. "2-D-4, which is the chemical make up of what we know as Agent Orange" is not correct
