The Great American Meatout encourages participants to give up meat for a day. Here's a look at some of the environmental reasons why.

read it, so leave my way of eating alone and I will leave yours alone.

Joyce, not demanding change from anyone. Simply asking people to take a critical look at their eating habits, given the facts I put out there. Obviously, your choices are your own decision.

That's it. Our choices is our own. And this country should allow all of us freedom of choice. Vegan or Omni. Nobody is forcing me to be a vegan or a meat eater - the way it should be. It's not right to force anyone to live a certain lifestyle.

Interesting post Sharon. Noted.

Been there, done that - I consume about six pounds a year since 1992. I propose Humane Society sell meat - animal treated humanely, no antibiotics or growth hormones, no fed dead animal renderings, free range.

Perhaps the biggest reason to eat less meat is petroleum - it takes forty times the fossil fuel to produce feedlot beef as it does soybeans.

When octane hits four dollars a gallon this summer, eating meat is a part of it.
