In 1999, filmmaker Jeremy Gilley launched Peace One Day and set out to find a starting point for peace. He had a mission: to document his efforts to establish the first ever annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence with a fixed calendar date.

Way back at the beginning of our journey, every member state of the United Nations unanimously adopted a global day of Peace. My film - The Day After Peace - encompassing the passing of the resolution and the impact it had around the world up until 2007. My ultimate aim is to show my film in every UN member state - 192 in total. That's a lot of countries. But, then again, the film has been sold internationally for TV in 91 countries so far and has been screened at 70 international film festivals. Not only that, but as part of our 192 and Beyond campaign, the film will be screened in 173 countries so far, and we hope to confirm the remaining 19 in the coming weeks.
And you can get involved. It doesn't matter where the film is screened; whether it's a school, a sitting room or a cinema. I firmly believe that film is the best tool we have to inform and inspire everyone the world to do something for Peace Day. Screening a film is a simple thing but it is an immensely significant gesture. Why not invite some of your friends round to watch it on Peace Day? Just by screening the film - and passing on our message - you are making the biggest difference of all; informing your friends and loved ones of what we're all about and encouraging them to make a commitment for peace day.
Enjoy the film - by watching together there will be peace one day.
In Peace,
Jeremy

The Day After Peace charts the remarkable 10-year journey of award-winning filmmaker Jeremy Gilley to establish an annual Peace Day on 21 September. The camera follows Jeremy as he galvanises the countries of the world to recognise an official day of ceasefire and non-violence.

But even after the member states of the UN unanimously adopt Peace Day, the struggle isn’t over. As the years pass, there’s not a single ceasefire. The voices of the cynics are growing louder – and now Gilley’s non-profit organisation, Peace One Day, is in dire financial straits. But he can’t let it fail.

The film’s breathtaking conclusion finds Gilley joined by Jude Law in Afghanistan attempting to spearhead a massive vaccination against polio on Peace Day. Will peace prevail? Will lives be saved? Or were the cynics right?

The Day After Peace is a moving testament to the power of the individual and the perseverance of the human spirit.

GOOD WILL ALWAYS PREVAILS!

So very noted Holly!
Peace is not 'out there' but begins within, reminding me of "The Peace Song"

Let there be Peace on Earth, and let it begin with me.
Let there be Peace on Earth, the Peace that was meant to be.
With God as our Father, Family all are we.
Let us walk with each other, in perfect harmony.
Let Peace begin with me, let this be the moment now.
With every step I take, let this be my joyous vow;
To take each moment and live each moment in Peace eternally.
Let there be Peace on Earth and let it begin with me!

Peace be upon us all!

You know there really is still a chance for peace and that chance will definitely increase if we each do our piece. So let’s make peace -- in our homes, in our own hearts, in our relationships, in our communities, in all of our dealings and in the world. Peace be with us all.

Thoughts become things....Choose the good ones!

Part of my address to the meeting in Carlisle yesterday on Peace One Day

Ever since man first picked up a stick or stone to kill another person, we have invented ever more gruesome and brutal weapons. From spears to battleship guns they have become more and more deadly. Till earth is filled with minefields and cluster munitions that kill and maim long after the war has moved on…and then there are nuclear missiles with the power to kill hundreds of thousands in one blast.

What if instead of all that effort going into the science of death, mankind had developed down a different path and had instead developed the science of the living. Cancer would have been a thing of the past as would many of the illnesses and conditions that debilitate and limit life today.

Today we have that choice. We can blindly follow the leaders of this world and go on as we have for the last 4,000 years and we will end up with more graves, more fear, more bloodshed, more sorrow, more pain, more bereavement….and still our leaders rhetoric will be unchanged. “We fight to preserve the peace.” "Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding."

Today we have a better way; a way that makes sense and reduces the fear and pain of the nations. Today we can choose to tell our leaders they are wrong to pursue constant war. It is a blind road leading nowhere.

Just close your eyes for one moment and think what we could achieve in this world if all the resources gobbled by war were instead to be put to peaceful ends…the ending of world poverty, the feeding of the nations, the cure for diseases, sight for the blind, new limbs for the disabled, clearing away the minefields and cluster debris….

Did you see it? This brave new world that could be…it starts with one person…it starts with you…it starts within you...and it starts now the moment you choose the path of non-violence in thought, word and actions.
