Letter to Ban Ki-Moon.
"Dear UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon,
The film Burma VJ: Reporting From a Closed Country tells the story of the 2007 Burmese “Saffron Revolution” and the subsequent brutal crackdown by the ruling military government.

The film is composed of footage recorded in 2007 and 2008 by the journalist organisation “The Democratic Voice of Burma” (DVB) and other activist individuals. However, this footage was recorded and disseminated at great personal risk: the ruling military junta remains uncompromisingly intolerant of free speech, and consequently a large number of the journalists and activists in the film now face prison sentences of up to 65 years. The individuals imprisoned include:
Htin Kyaw
Su Su Nway
Ohn Than
Si Thu Maung
Ko Win Maw

These five individuals join over 2,100 political prisoners in Burma, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, 1991 Nobel Peace Prize Winner, imprisoned simply for peacefully calling for democracy and freedom in that country.

I am writing to you to express my horror at the on-going political repression in Burma, and in particular the continued imprisonment of peaceful pro-democracy activists and journalists.

I call on you, as UN Secretary General, to make it your personal priority to secure the release of all of Burma’s political prisoners, including those who courageously demonstrated during, and filmed, the 2007 protests.

As a show of solidarity with the oppressed Burmese population, I will be encouraging other individuals to watch the Burma VJ film and to write to you."
Yours sincerely,

"UN Chief’s Visit Fails to Bend Junta’s Iron Will" (Irrawaddy)
Hardliner generals in Naypyidaw have demonstrated once again how completely unyielding they can be to the demands of anybody who does not see Burma’s future exactly the same way they do.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has completed his second trip to Burma in little over a year without meeting opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi or winning any concessions from Snr-Gen Than Shwe, the head of the ruling junta.

According to reports from Burma, Ban met with Than Shwe again on Saturday, only to have his request for a chance to speak with Suu Kyi shot down a second time.

“I pressed as hard as I could,” Ban told reporters after the meeting. “I had hoped that he would agree to my request, but it is regrettable that he did not,” he said, adding that he was “deeply disappointed” with the situation.

My comment: -Mr Ban Ki-Moon, is that all You have to say? And, why did You go to Burma in the first place?
(He was invited by the generals...)

Ban Ki-moon's Speech.
"Excellencies,
Distinguished guests and colleagues
Ladies and Gentlemen,
This is my second visit to Myanmar in just over a year. Both visits have been at critical times for the country’s future.
My first visit was in the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis. This devastating natural disaster, which took so many lives and created so much hardship, touched hearts across the globe. In Myanmar’s moment of need, the world responded generously.
I want to personally thank everyone here today for your remarkable contributions to the relief and recovery effort.
You have saved lives, rejuvenated communities and made it possible for many thousands of people to reclaim their livelihoods. You have helped Myanmar to overcome adversity. It is important that this work continues.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I felt the tragedy of Cyclone Nargis deeply -- as a fellow Asian and as Secretary-General .
I am Asia’s second Secretary-General. The first was Myanmar's U Thant. I revere his memory. I also recall his wise words.

U Thant said: “The worth of the individual human being is the most unique and precious of all our assets and must be the beginning and end of all our efforts. Governments, systems, ideologies and institutions come and go, but humanity remains.”
This is why I have returned.
As Secretary-General, I attach the highest importance to helping the people of this country to achieve their legitimate aspirations...."
-bla-bla-bla-bla-bla... (My comment)
To be continued:

And nothing is happening...
Well; probably the generals will release some 200 "not so dangerous" political prisoners soon.
Then we have to wait for the Prime Butcher aka "The Bulldog" Than Shwe to die...

Thanks for sharing -- It's hard to know why they do these things, but it's unbelievable when they torture and kill Christians for believing in Christ. http://www.persecution.org/suffering/countryinfodetail.php?countrycode=12 We are taught to pray for and follow the laws of any government, even an evil one, so it is hard to understand why they even bother with christians. Absolute control I suppose, is their aim.
