More drilling is not the answer. Lowering demand and moving to alternative fuels is. This is a good reminder that we all know what to do, we just need to start doing it!

Drilling ANWAR would only be a temporary solution to the oil crisis.
The auto industry needs to start developing cars that run on less gas.
Plus we got to start finding and developing alternative energy solutions before it becomes too late.

The good news is according to the national news tonight Americans are cutting back on driving. We reduced the number of miles driven by 4.4 million in April compared to April of last year and according to the report the trend is expected to continue. Despite an increase in population and the number of vehicles that puts us at 2005 levels. It will be interesting to see how much the decline has increased now that gas is over $4.00 a gallon.

No Linda, the auto makers do not need to make cars that run on less gas. What they need to do is develop and manufacture vehicles that do NOT use gas and electric cars are not the answer because that electricity is produced from fossil fuels. When you plug that car in to recharge the battery you are causing Chris to have an anxiety attack because of the CO2 the power plant produces making the electricity.

Yeah! Let's walk and ride bicycles and use public transport! And let's support politicians who increase public transport (especaially low emission and zero emission public transport)! This reduces our fuel use.

Yes, about half the electricity in America comes from coal, which results in deaths due to mining and black lung disease (as well as the pollution from the power plant).

NRDC has pointed out even in some communities where population has seen a decrease, consumption of petrol has increased, because the community was designed for vehicles and not other means of transportation. Clearly there is so much involved in developments - road planning, design of the homes, even where trees are planted - that I suspect many of us are not as aware what our commissioners are doing as we should.

Some of us ride Amtrak - we can certainly get by without the billions in subsidies for the airlines and highways. I do wonder why some people complain about Amtrak subsidies when they treat airlines and highways differently.

And we need to look at growth and development. I have made the personal commitment to family planning - I have no children, and plan on having one child and adopt.
