The Capital Area Humane Society has a big problem: chubby cats. Approximately 9 of them, to be exact, all of which are in desperate need of being adopted into loving homes (that will hopefully help them shed the pounds!). Anyone in Ohio?

Just to let you all know- I don't find this funny or anything. Just sad that no one is buying the obese cats and interesting that shelter would go as far to sell one for $15 and 2 for $20! Thats a great price for a new friend in case someone wanted to adopt some chubby cats!

I would gladly take these beautiful cats if I didn't already have 6 cats and a senior German Shepherd.

I have 2 fat male kitties who like to take another one in, however, I also have 2 slim and trim kitties...they let the fat ones eat first : )

If I didn't live in Maryland and my younger daughter was a bit older (she's four now, which means to her cats are just furry toys), then I might consider opening my heart and home to a "heater cat." Unfortunately, I have to wait until my younger daughter matures a little bit...*sigh.* Someday I'll have another furbaby in our house livening up our world.

When I first adopted my "Tubby" cat, his belly almost touched the ground...but within 2 months he was just a big, beautful healthy cat!!..he could go outside when ever he wanted to...and all my pets have food available 24 hours a day!!....because they know this , they donot overeat and they get their own exercise!!

The stress and boredom of being in a shelter is not helping these cats. I wonder what the shelter is feeding them? Many shelters feed dry grain-based "junk food", which can lead to serious health problems, such as obesity. These cats should try the "Catkins diet" - no dry food (too many carbs), just the meat and moisture of canned food, which resembles a cat's diet in the wild. I hope they are adopted. It's heartbreaking to see so many cats spending miserable years in shelters because their aren't enough homes for them or being killed because there aren't enough homes for them!

I'm still desperately trying to find a home for "Raven", whom I rescued when she was abandoned at my workplace 3 months ago, pregnant and still a kitten herself! I took her to my vet to be spayed, vaccinated, and FeLV tested, but no one will take her and she hates cats! I have 4, including two 15 yr. old siblings, one of them in renal failure, and they are extremely stressed and not doing well with the rescued cat's presence. If anyone can help, please send me a message. Thanks!

I adopted the big, grand old girl I'm holding in my profile pic because I thought it such a sad existence for a beautiful cat her size and age to be living out her final years in a shelter. I was glad to have been able to give her a loving home in her final years. Every animal deserves a chance.

I'm a little put off by this ad. All cats should be treated the same. I had a neighbor that had a very fat cat and everyone would laugh when they saw it, but it turned out it was a medical condition for the cat. I cat sitted with it a few times and you tell that it's feeling were hurt when people laughed at it. I'd sit outside with him and if he saw people coming, he'd hide his face, and tense up when the laughing started.

Im afraid I am not very good at enforcing animals diets either, they might stay fat with me in charge...or not in charge, depends which side of the fence you are on.

Poor babies they are obese because of the wrong nutrition and lock of activity.
