Yet another incident involving a cop shooting at an innocent, lovable dog just because he is part pit bull. The cops attacked as soon as he exited the front door to see who was there, like any dog. Frankie was shot 3 times and his vet bill is $3,000.

Not only should they pay his vet bills, they should sue them for pain and suffering!! Unnecessary and unreasonable force from the big powerful gun toting cops. Breed profiling/racism is rampant in FL.
I know I would be torn up inside if this happened to my pet!

Pay the damn bill Officer Shoot Without Thinking!!! What would he do if a child came running around the corner??? Scary thought isn't it. These people deserve to be compensated for the pain and suffering their furbaby has gone through.
Seems like these days anyone can have a gun that shouldn't!!!

Signed and noted-and if I knew the single most aggressive, most intense trial attorney down there, I'd refer him to Frankie and his owner. Until the police stop shooting first and asking questions-or not, after the fact, this sort of thing will continue to happen. FWIW, this police officer should consider himself very fortunate Frankie isn't my dog. This sort of sheer stupidity is beyond excuse.

if that is a photo of Frankie...he is GORGEOUS !
the police department is responsible for the unwarranted shooting of the dog. They must pay for his medical care.

As a resident of Broward County, I feel shamed that our deputies are allowed to behave so irresponsibly as regards dogs of any breed. They are too trigger happy and too willing to use excessive force for even the most minor issue.

They are an embarrassment to all law enforcement officers and need to be held accountable.

Naturally, I signed the petition.

Trigger happy cops have got to go, too many innocent people and animals shot and maimed without due cause. The cop, not the city, should have to pay the bill or work it off in a local animal rescue shelter.

signed. They should do-nate their donut money to this cause. Poor dog, the sound of the gun would have scared him off. Make the cop pay up, maybe he'll think before he uses a pet as gun practice!

Cops ALWAYS shoot dogs, they have to shoot something. They wet their pants at anything that, to them, seems "threatening" which, in most cases is everything. There would be thousands of dogs shot every day if mailmen, insurance men, meter readers, door to door salesmen, census takers, news paper delivery, pizza delivery people carried guns and could shoot your dog with the impunity cops do. Cops always have an out. They're taught several phrases that nearly always (like 99% of the time) justify their actions: "He made a threatening gesture", "he made a sudden move towards me", "I thought he was going for a weapon", "it looked like he had a weapon in his hand (car keys, soda can, cell phone, all look like guns to cops). . .these trite phrases always work, whether it's a dog or a person, unfortunately the statistics prove my point as cops are rarely convicted of gun violence against humans and I can't think of any instance at all where they have been liable in any case of gun violence towards any animal.

Take the police dept to court and get that vet bill paid by them or that police officer personally. You can't just go around shooting anything that moves for no reason and then let someone else pay for the inevitable fallout.

What the cop did was wrong, there is no question. But what is the rest of the story?? Why were the cops there at all? Why was the dog allowed out first? we need more information..
