Please sign this petition and send this to all your friends. Then ask them to sign and send it to all their friends and so forth. This is what's known as something going viral. It would be great to have a few million signatures to this.
I can't sign because I am an Australian. ( I know that we Australians have our own battles to fight and we're doing our best to beat our own polluting billionaires.)
I'm sending out this submission because the Keystone pipeline will deliver enough dirty oil to kill off all my descendants in Australia and Europe, not to mention the grandchildren of the people in the United States as well. This is priority number one - overriding importance!
Please help.

Have I mentioned that Canadian business interests are proposing a pipeline north to the MacKenzie Delta in the Arctic, as BC and First Nations are disputing their attempt to push Northern Gateway to the Pacific coast?

Tar Sands oil goes to Koch refineries in the upper US midwest, and proposals to pipe it across MN, MI, WI, IL, Ont. to Quebec and Maine for Atlantic shipping exist as well. The Arctic pipe is just the newest unveiled proposal.

In spite of the fact that many, many care2 people such as the one who alerted me to this article, are only interested in human welfare - as are the Corporations and governments who are pushing for the pipeline - the catastrophic effects run deeper.

I would hope that those care2 members who are so focused, would study the suffering of animals tortured by humans and by human products, such as poisons, enslavement for use or entertainment, and loss of home (this happened even to a reticent other bear with whom I am well acquainted. Several of her children have been slaughtered without concern, as well. I found parts of the skin of one, and heard bragging of 3 others' death) in personal ways. It is possible that you have been extending your care in far too limited a fashion.

Michael M (60)
Sunday May 19, 2013, 3:43 pm
With that last comment, my intent was to let you know that even the fish of the Athabasca region where the Tar Sands are, suffer terrible malformation, that the air, water, and all the migrant birds, the beings who depend upon the waters, including the Frst Nations peoples downstream, suffer right now, before the wider world suffers from future climate change.

The universe is made up of individual beings, and every one of them deserve natural health. That two nations deny them this for $ is abhorrent.

If I'm by any chance the one being referred to as "only being concerned with human welfare", that is not an accurate way of putting it. I have shown in many click-to-donates and Petitions signed, that I am concerned with animals, not that I feel the need to make any "defense".
I have asked all people on my friends list - and I might as well take this opportunity, some seem to have forgotten it! - to NOT send me things concerning animals. It's not that I am "indifferent" - but, as I stated, I'd rather search out such Petitions, etc., MYSELF. Which I do, when I have the time.

It is a matter of allocating my limited TIME. I have noticed, as I have said before, that there are a lot of people on C2 who are ONLY concerned with animals. Or almost entirely. That's fine, that's OK. But, there are it seems to me, far FEWER people concerned with Human Rights. Other people besides myself, have noticed this. Therefore, I have CHOSEN to respond MOSTLY to Human Rights issues. That doesn't mean "exclusively"!

Of course, it goes without saying, Michael M., that ALL Life is connected.
I hope this clears up any mis-apprehensions,

I hope people who can't sign this, because they're not U.S. citizens, DO sign OTHER Petitions about Keystone - and, circulate these among all their FRIENDS, in all countries, so it gets into as many hands as possible.....! and those eligible get a chance to sign....

Thanks Alexandra, Signed and shared. We need to do all we can to stop this monstrosity from being built. We just passed the 400 ppm in carbon concentration in the atmosphere. We can't afford the risk of "accidents" which we know will happen, and we can't afford to burn all the carbon this thing would make available. Let this be our line in the sand, when we all stood together and said ENOUGH!!!

I love the Friends of the Earth! They have also investigated & reported on Land Theft aka Land Grabbing, in Africa, for example, where governments are selling out to richer countries, to Wall St investment funds, & to mulitnationals, allowing them to buy up agricultural land that rightfully belongs, in many cases, -or should belong- to the local, native, indigenous farmers.

24th April 2012 - "Land, Life and Justice", published by Friends of the Earth International, posted on the STWR - 'SHARE THE WORLD'S RESOURCES' - SUSTAINABLE ECONOMICS TO END GLOBAL POVERTY site

An investigation into cases of land grabbing in Uganda, focusing in particular on oil palm plantations in Kalangala, Lake Victoria. This report assesses the impacts on rural communities and on the local environment, and questions who benefits from these projects, by Friends of the Earth International.

It appears that ERM is involved in getting access permits for various clients and so is , IMO unsuitable to the purpose of certifying the safety and environmental impact of Keystone. Even if ERM has no direct connection with Keystone, its mission has traditionally been to find ways to gain access permits...not to pass judgement on the suitability of a project in general.

" Wikileaks Releases Damning Keystone Pipeline Emails

Wikileaks Releases Damning Keystone Pipeline Emails

e-mail conversations between the two Canadian oil execs...

Kerry: I tried to keep everybody focused on the physical pipeline and jobs they might get but a few people were asking questions about where the oil was going once it came through the pipeline.

Girling: Where the hell do they think it’s going? It’s going to China for Christs sake. Do they think it was going to the Shell station around the corner?

Kerry: The poll we did last week shows that 80 of Americans think that the oil is coming right into the US for their own consumption. Well when we told them it was getting piped to the Gulf, they assumed it was the Gulf station on Main street. We have about 30 senators and congressmen that seem to have a problem with us laying a 1700 mile skid-mark through the center of America that won’t benefit the US one bit."

Here is the entire post Angelika..glad i found this last link that contained the whole conversation!
Read it and weep :-(

This morning, Wikileaks released a transcript of shocking emails sent between two high-ranking oil executives at TransCanada Corporation, the Canadian oil company slated to build the proposed Keystone XL pipeline through the heartland of America. The correspondence took place the day after the Keystone XL Pipeline project was postponed by the U.S. Department of State. The private emails were sent between TransCanada Director Kerry Hawkins and TransCanada President Russell Girling.

Shortly after the the pipeline bill was squashed by the Obama administration, Kerry Hawkins met with oil lobbyists and Washington politicians in an attempt to salvage the Billion dollar deal.

Girling: What the hell happened down there?

Kerry: Seems that a few of the freshman congressmen I talked to weren't too keen on a ‘foreign country' running a pipeline through the heartland of America.

Girling: I see. I'm not happy about the ‘foreign country' remarks. We've spent decades lulling Americans into thinking that Canada is just their friendly neighbor up North. If they start thinking of Canada as a country with its own agenda, we may have a big problem. What else did you find out?

Kerry: I tried to keep everybody focused on the physical pipeline and jobs they might get but a few people were asking questions about where the oil was going once it came through the pipeline.

Girling: Where the hell do they think it's going? It's going to China for Christs sake. Do they think it was going to the Shell station around the corner?

Kerry: The poll we did last week shows that 80 of Americans think that the oil is coming right into the US for their own consumption. Well when we told them it was getting piped to the Gulf, they assumed it was the Gulf station on Main street. We have about 30 senators and congressmen that seem to have a problem with us laying a 1700 mile skid-mark through the center of America that won't benefit the US one bit.

Girling: Goddamn tree-huggers. Should we up the jobs creation projection? Maybe we need to put more bait on the hook. I thought 20,000 would be enough. Should we make it 80,000?

Kerry: I think we should have gone bigger from the beginning. They have 1.3 million people out of work and 20,000 jobs is a less than a drop in the empty bucket. I think we should promise 1.3 million jobs. Lets tell them that the pipeline will provide a job for every person that isn't working. What's the difference? They aren't getting the jobs anyhow. We'll give them 3000 jobs at most and 400 of those will go to union business agents and relatives of our supporters. The 20,000 jobs promised is nothing more than symbolic. A symbol that republicans can use to hit Obama on the head with.

Girling: LOL. Did you “talk” to those hippies at the EPA?

Kerry: Yeh…It didn't take much. Most of them are upside down on their mortgages and it wasn't a lengthy discussion. Most of them are on board after we assisted them in their time of need. That asshole Peterson, unfortunately slipped on some ice and fell down a flight of stairs yesterday. Needless to say, he's on board now.

Girling: Slipped on ice? He lives in Tampa for Christ sake! Where the hell did you get the ice from?

Kerry: My driveway. The evidence melted quickly.

Girling: How are we coming with those pipe sections?

Kerry: We promised to buy 60,000 sections from US companies. Once we get the green light, we'll postpone the order. We'll haul in the Chinese pipe sections and all the stanchions from Mexico. We'll save about 3 Billion dollars.

Girling: We're still going to use the US sections in Canada right?

Kerry: Absolutely. We don't want a drop of oil leaking on Canadian soil. We use the shitty Chink pipe in the states. Any leaks will be their problem. If they're going to get 20,000 jobs out of this project–it will be clean-up crews!

Girling: LOL. How did the dinner with the people from Fox go last night?

Kerry: Great. They agreed to put the blame for the bill's failure square on Obama. They are going to go with the “jobs lost' angle and keep the project stalled until the election. John said we should sent the moving trucks to the White House this week. LOL. Gingrich said he'd help load up the trucks.

Girling: Did you make him aware of our “contribution” to his campaign?

Kerry: He said he didn't give a shit about the pipeline because it doesn't go through his backyard. He did make a weird comment though. He asked me what was stopping the US from just going up and taking the oil fields for themselves? And then he laughed, but it was a creepy laugh. That guy scares me. Are you sure that we're betting on the right horse?

Girling:, We've placed bets on every horse in the race. By this time next year we'll be shoving this pipeline up America's ass and we'll be rolling in money. Did you check out that villa in Saint John?

Kerry: Yeh. We put a down-payment on it. Can't wait to get the hell out of this goddamn snow.

I think it's important for the purveyors of Progressive values, to check our facts before passing them on to others. Nothing gives Conservatives more fuel than finding and refuting a post that was spread all over the web as gospel. We condemn FOX news for spreading rumours and we should be equally critical of ourselves.

I was caught myself at least once passing on a story that someone else later fact-checked and found to be incorrect and exaggerated.

When someone presents you with a story or a set of facts, back checking the info can save a lot of embarrassment.

Alexandra, thank you for finding this back-handed, totally corrupt, but ultimately predictable piece of work, and bringing it to our attention. Thank you Nicky for the forward.

Just the other day, I accudentally happened upon a radio show out of Berkeley, California, on KPFA radio, part of the Pacifica Radio network (that also includes Democracy Now! among its featured programs) in which the host & special correspondent in Arkansas give an April 9th update on the situation in the Arkansas town that didn't know a major pipeline was under their feet until it burst!

I thought this was worth sharing with you:

The Berkeley, CA radio KPFA program, 'Flashpoints Daily Newsmag,' 04-09-13:" Exxon oil spill wreaks havoc". Much to worry about when you hear what their special correspondent in Arkansas has to say about the toxicity of the chemicals that are mixed into Tar Sands crude to make it slide through the pipelines (chemicals that are 'proprietary' - meaning Exxon 'owns' them from a legal point of view & cannot be legally forced to disclose what they are... & they don't!), causing both CANCERS & GENETIC BIRTH DEFECTS; when you hear that the pipeline being used for such toxic stuff is 65 YEARS OLD, despite the fact that this "Pegasis pipeline is now the 'PRIMARY AVENUE' to move Canadian crude oil to the Gulf Coast, (according to a) Washington DC U.S. Court of Appeals ruling, (which) also said Exxon moves about 66,000 BARRELS/DAY on the line," (as reported by Reuters on March 31st); and finally when you hear about the health impacts, the symptoms that the townspeople are still suffering from.

It seems to me that Keystone XL is sure to produce many more of these 'spills' - though 'gushers' would be a more appropriate term! Where making profits NECESSARILY means cutting corners on everything, SAFETY MEASURES & MAINTENANCE of the pipelines will NEVER be budgeted in properly & PUBLIC HEALTH (of all critters, human & not) is the LEAST of their concerns. The Keystone XL has got to go!
