Melting Ice Leaves Polar Bears Desperate For Any Food

THIS gruesome scene shows the desperate struggle by polar bears to find food as their landscape melts a little more every year. With no sign of their usual prey - seals resting on the ice - this female and her two cubs are forced to swim for miles, the

AW, come on....the ice is up from its low in 2007, and Polar bears eat dead whales and swim long distances anyway. This is called "sensationalism".

It's true that polar bears would take advantage of this dining no matter the amount of polar ice. But when it is becoming the only source of food, chance beaching of dead marine mammals, it does bring polar bears into aggregated groups that will only lead to fighting and killing. Polar bears by nature are lone hunters and pak ice specifically affords that.

And yes the recession of ice has temporarily halted when compared to its low, but if you want to compare, it is still exceedingly low for proper polar bear habitat, when compared to its once high.

Damn that ice. Let's see right now it is -16F in Barrow, but a balmy +8F in Fairbanks. And I thought water froze at +32?
"it is still exceedingly low for proper polar bear habitat, when compared to its once high." You mean when it reached all the way to central Ohio? Please don't tell me we've got to encase the entire country of Canada and 1/3 of the US in permanent ice to make everybody happy.
Guys summer ice has grown for the last 2 years and arctic ice reached its minimum for the year 2 months ago. Worry about something else...

I don't think I have ever read anything about that area being free of ice since the dawn of man. I can imagine why though, with all the factory farming and industrialization, the methane and pollutants have to go somewhere, it was only a matter of time. The governments will exploit this land for drilling. Nowhere is safe from the scourges of man, and the planet is suffering. Also the water has to go somewhere, picked up in the atmosphere and dumped on another country, flooding of the coastlines, we will get our just deserts.

OOOps i meant desserts, but oh well, some areas of the earth will also dry up as well, from excessive heat as the sun goes through its changes, as well as ozone depletion and gamma rays. It is our responsibility to relocate all threatened species affected by our lack of foresight , so they can have a chance as they never created this mess to begin with.

I hope that the polar bears lif will become less complicated and that they will find their sure footing once again

Yes, the artic sea ice has expanded SLIGHTLY over the last two years - 2007 was the LOWEST EXTENT IN 100 years - and 2008 and 2009 were SLIGHTLY above those levels. This is called WEATHER - not climate - do get that through your think skull Judy!!!! Here is the wonderful "recovery" put into perspective (to update this graph to 2009, a data point needs to be added slightly above the 2008 levels):

http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/IMAGES/seasonal.extent.1900-2007.jpg

LOOK at the green line which demarks minimum extent - LOOK at the trend - LOOK at the TINY increase in 2008 - Judy and Mark has seen this all before yet persist in the PRAPAGANDA about a recovery!!!!!

Here are the FACTS regarding curent conditions:

http://www.arctic.noaa.gov/reportcard/seaice.html

LOOK at Figure S2 which shows the VERY SLIGHT INCREASE in minimum extent (red line) in 2009 (this will allow you to place the 2009 data point on the previous graph) - LOOK at the trend... Geezz, how many times must Judy and Mark see this before they get it??? BLIND DENIALISTS repeating disproven DOGMA ad nasium!!!!!!!!!!!!

AW come on. Sounds like if chicken little was running around saying the sky is falling you would not care as long as it didn't bother you. Look I have been learning about global warming/cimate change and asfar as can see all the burning of all these things like coal/oil has cause the earth to get warmer. Why? Well we as the most intelligent ones on this earth. We want more and more land for building more and more. We see the trees/Forest stand in our way and without a secound thought we have been slowly chopping/burning destroying them. All these gases chocking our planet causing the earth to become hotter. In turn the Polor Bears are having a much harder time getting food for the cubs. Why you may have to worry about working extra hard. Getting worn out. And the cause it can have. So our planet is getting warmer and you and others like you turn up your nose and deny deny because it would be much easier to keep that tangle web of garbage spewing out of your mouth.
