Where to recycle your Christmas tree

If you’re looking to recycle your Christmas trees, there are several options around Central Texas. We will post them here as we learn of them.

City of Austin: Residents can drop off their trees at Zilker Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 2, Jan. 3 and Jan. 9. The city turns the trees into mulch that it makes available to Austin residents on a first-come, first-served basis in mid-January.

Also, Austin garbage collection customers can place their trees at the curb along with yard trimmings on regularly scheduled collection days. Trees six feet or taller should be cut in half, and ornaments and lights must be removed. Only real trees will be accepted, and trees should not be placed in “tree bags.”
