Gayle Trotter of the conservative Independent Women’s Forum testified that banning high-capacity magazines would hurt women.

“Guns make women safer,” Trotter argued, because they eliminate the advantage violent criminals might have in size and strength. “Using a firearm with a magazine holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition, a woman would have a fighting chance even against multiple attackers.”

“Scary-looking guns” also inspires more fear in an attacker, she said. “Young women are speaking out as to why AR-15′s are their weapons of choice” — they are lightweight and accurate. (A recent op-ed in the National Review made this case.)

Trotter went on to argue that concealed-carry laws and armed guards deter crime, while gun-free zones and new gun regulations only create easy targets “where madmen can wreak havoc.”

She cited research finding that concealed-carry laws decrease crime. The Post’s Factchecker has looked into that study and found that the conclusions are actually much murkier and disputed by other researchers.

In a response, the group ULTRAVIOLET put out a poster saying:
Having a gun in a domestic violent situation increases the woman's risk of being killed by 500 % !!

Yeah, she sounded nuts, women don't need these types of guns to keep safe, she didn't even know what gun the woman in her story used because it would trash her own story :/

During an interview on The Last Word Wednesday night, MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell challenged Trotter for not being able to provide one real life example of a case when an assault weapon specifically saved one woman’s life in that kind of a situation. “You don’t go to the Senate to imagine things!” O’Donnell said.

Lawrence O'Donnell had a good piece on this woman last night seen here if anyone wants to view

Gayle Trotter, of Independent Women’s Forum, is an anti-feminist organization housing various "experts" who weigh in on a wide array of issues ranging from feminism and family issues to economics, environmental policy, and international affairs.
