Help DFA raise the minimum wage

We know that income inequality in this country is unsustainable, and we want to be at the forefront of the movement to raise the minimum wage every single chance we get.

Nice, but an executive order would not be sustained. Obama, no matter what the Internet chatter; does not use his executive orders when a problem must be legally resolved in the Congress.

Kit - "Nice, but an executive order would not be sustained. Obama, no matter what the Internet chatter; does not use his executive orders when a problem must be legally resolved in the Congress. "
I'm not getting it. I assume DFA, with a former Gov chair would know this, and WE know that he used this his power for decreasing deportations for undocumented Latinos, quite selectively, too. another issue that NORMALLY would have required "legally resolve in Congress"-, no?? Yet he did it as the §%$%§% WON'T MOVE to get ímmigration reform passed!

I looked this up on Cornell law review. I stand corrected, for Federal employees Obama may have the ability to use an executive order to increase wages. That he has not, must have to do with internal politics and making deals with Congress, hopefully that would be to raise the national minimum wage. Of course, I am not privy to his thinking or the inner workings of the White House and policy.

Executive Orders

In times of emergency, the president can override congress and issue executive orders with almost limitless power. Abraham Lincoln used an executive order in order to fight the Civil War, Woodrow Wilson issued one in order to arm the United States just before it entered World War I, and Franklin Roosevelt approved Japanese internment camps during World War II with an executive order. Many other executive orders are on file and could be enacted at any time.

I do share your susicion/assessment why he has not(yet), seems likely, unless other stuff, of which there is certainly enough currently, has held him up to give attention.

The more sign all these petitions and TIMELY, the better chances there just might pop up a surprise bonus on Tuesday in his speech.
