Neil Young is scheduled to play a concert in Israel in July 2014. Given Mr. Young's progressive stances on many other issues, including his very recent and public support of Canadian First Nations peoples, his decision to perform in Israel is perplexing

In 2005, a coalition of over 170 Palestinian civil society organizations launched a campaign calling the international community to boycott Israel culturally, academically, and commercially. As conceived, the boycott will end when Israel recognizes the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and fully complies with international law in Israel and in the Palestinian territories it currently occupies illegally.

Elvis Costello, Stevie Wonder, Vanessa Paradis, Gil Scott-Heron and many other performing artists cancelled their performances in Israel in respect for this call.
Let's hope that Young makes the right decision, and cancels his concert.

Maybe he will go and rock the house - i.e. SPEAK UP FOR PALESTINIAN RIGHTS AND EXPOSE ISRAELI/NETANYAHU HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES, ILLEGAL OCCUPATION AND LANDGRABS IN JORDAN AND THE WEST BANK...

do you think??

Jess, that seems rather unlikely. We'd be glad if he chooses not to follow the money but the example of his collegues before him!

Angelika, aren't you getting tired of Dawah campaigning on and on?

Iran openly committed this crime, and yet you keep silent, did not sign any petition, nor asked others to sign petition, just because Iran is a Muslim country:

Ayatollah Boroujerdi's condition has reportedly worsened as of January 28, 2014, when he suffered severe body tremors and was motionless for hours in his cell. The authorities still refuse to transfer him to a medical facility and are denying him the most basic medical care. We ask for intervention to save his life.

Ayatollah Hossein-Kazamani Boroujerdi, a senior member of the Shiite Muslim clergy, is presently serving the eighth year of an 11-year sentence handed down to him by the Islamic Republic's courts for advocating the separation of state and religion inside Iran. He has also spoken against political Islam and its leaders. As a result, during his time in prison, he has been exposed to torture especially reserved for the Islamic Republic's dissident clergy and political prisoners. Boroujerdi has endured the rape of his spouse in front of other family members. He has been purposely exposed to toxic chemical agents while kept in a small solitary cell. As a result, he now suffers permanent neurological damage, further aggravated by group beatings. Urgent medical attention has been systematically withheld for his long list of ailments, which are mostly a direct result of years of torture and malnutrition.

You gross and unfair treatment of Israel is disturbing and harmful for the peace process.

Not signed either. Neil Young tends to do what's right, not what's popular!
Shame on those other artists!

I don't see any boycotting when performers do their shows for $$$ dictators (Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, 50 Cent...http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2013/12/20/entertainers-performing-dictators-tyrants/4142115/). I don't agree with academic boycotts. The exchange of ideas and entertainment is what helps bring down walls. I will NOT sign.

The fact is that many of those "Palestinians" actually came from other Muslim countries and were forced out of those countries for the purpose of being so-called Palestinians. The reason for this is that the fanatic Muslims would not tolerate a country in the Middle East not being run by Muslims. They don't want Israel to exist at all. In addition, Israel has been violently attacked for years. They have to protect themselves from terrorists constantly. Also the fact is that if these Muslims have their way and all countries in the Middle East would be run by Muslims, they then will fight each other to try to make sure that all the countries will be run by what they consider to be the "right" kind of Muslims. They also would then want to try to get all countries in the world run by Muslims too. Think also of what they do to women.

Neil is a big boy. I have yet to be disappointed in his causes. If he does go to Israel, I hope he attacks the apartheid issue. Israeli government is right wing conservative, Neil is not. Have faith in his choices.
