So many people on the planet don't have access to clean water. We need to help them. There are some good charities who are installing pumps, and doing other things so these people can live a better life.

I'm just wondering how this "process" works? Is the water filtered after adding this "chemical and clarification" packet to the water? Being that I work for a water filtration company, I know that chemically treated water does not necessarily make it "safe" to drink.
Municipal Water filtration plants use Chlorine to disinfect our water supplies, but we all know that it is not safe to drink chlorine, or chlorine by-products.. I would like to find out more about this "chemical clarification package" and what else they are doing to actually make the water "safe"

Laura's comment spurred me to look for more information.
It looks OK.http://www.givepurwater.com/givepurwater/pdf/PPOWHandout11207.pdf

I also did a bit more research and found that P&G has partnered with pur. The process they use, is first to add a "chemical & clarification" package to the water, and then filter it through a cotton cloth. (this is about the extent of the information that they give you)... I am assuming that they are using a chlorine product to kill bacteria and cysts, etc, and possibly a binding agent to bond to the Large particulate matter, and then "filtering" through a cotton cloth...
Although this is probly considerably cleaner water to drink, It concernes me what agenda a big corporation such as P&G, (procotor and gamble) and pur have..
It also concernes me, that although the water may be free of bacteria's, and cysts, that a whole new set of health problems may be caused by the chemicals they are using (such as chlorine)to "purify" the water. Chlorine, and chlorine by-products are known to cause a muriad of health problems-
Chlorine is one of the most reactive elements found in nature. It readily dissolves in water, where it combines with molecules of oxygen and hydrogen to form hypochlorous acid and hypochlorite ion. Chlorination of water is achieved by adding chlorine gas directly to the water supply, or by adding the chemicals calcium hypochlorite or sodium chlorite, both of which are known as "free available chlorine".

Water utilities routinely disinfect drinking water to prevent microbial diseases, especially cholera, dysentery, and typhoid fever. To date, the greatest contribution to the protection of public health in the United States has been the disinfection of public water supplies, yet chlorine itself has been shown to cause a number of health problems.
I am no professional, but it seems to me, the amount of money they say they are spending, and asking the american people to contribute to by purchasing their products, could be better spent on building a basic, simple water filtering plant, that I'm sure would not cost billions of dollars. Or at the very least a simple filtering process (after the chlorination procedure) to remove the chlorine & chlorine by-products. A simple cotton cloth is not sufficient at removing chlorine & chlorine by-products.
I seriously worry about what these people are assuming to be "safe" water is only going to cause other diseases by these chemicals they claim to make the water "safe"..
Just my opinion...
