Oh how awful..I read an article about their weather..but it never stated all of this destruction and deaths..How terribly sad..
Why would it take 2 months for the power to be restored..Seems very long..
Thoughts and prayers for all of those enduring this weather..
Thanks Kathleen..
Sadly noted..

Just noted it for you. It has been in the news. I am close by in Southern Indiana. No problems here though. In fact, they are sending people from Indiana down to Kentucky to help. It was none week ago when the weather started. That is alot of time with out electricity- esp. in this weather.

IT IS APPALLING THAT SO FEW APPEAR TO CARE! The state has been without electric for 2 weeks and the governor sees no hope for the near future!! Much of the state has a rural and low-income population and my heart breaks for those folks - just like it does for all folks in any natural disaster. We're in southeastern Ohio. No, I am not "too close", it is that I care about my fellow humans!!!

And with the snow we are getting now (heading your way, Kathleen?), it is definitely not getting better. I had not realized that it was two weeks.

I'm from Michigan, just over the border from South Bend, Indiana. We were so fortunate here that we had a much lighter ice event. We've been thru that before, but never to the extent that Kentucky and other affected areas. Our power companies keep the trees trimmed way back from the power lines. Just last year, our power was out because of trees falling on the lines. Thankfully that was in August. It is really unbelievable that it is taking so long to get the lines up again. I'm assuming that the area is extremely large, and an extremely large amount of trees on the lines. I know that help has gone there from Michigan too. The news has shown people surviving in shelters. Thank God for the shelters! I wonder though about the pets, etc., are they left in the cold homes? I hope the people are looking after each other, some of the deaths have been totally preventable, if someone had just checked on those people. It is such a desperate and extremely sad situation there and I'm glad they called in the National Guard to help, hopefully, they weren't in Iraq. Sure wish there were something all of us could do to help, more than to send our best to those people suffering in the cold.

Even the media is not providing the exposure to this plight as it usually does in other natural disasters.

I am in Michigan. We got the snow and sub-arctic temps... I know they had TERRIBLE ice storms in southern Indiana and Kentucky. My heart goes out to all of those people involved.
