Children exposed to formaldehyde fumes could very possibly incur permanent lung damage. When Asthma is caused by allergens, treatment for the allergies, as well as maturity, will sometimes cause it to improve. Lung damage is more difficult to predict.

Additionally, even if the risk of cancer does not cause more problems, long term severe Asthma damages the heart and early heart failure is often the outcome for mature adults with lifelong Asthma.
