This is a real travesty and the most heart wrenching story I have read today. Tigers are such strikingly beautiful and majestic creatures. I cannot bear to think of a world without them. Everytime I look into a Tigers Beautiful Soulful Eyes, their striking facial/body symetry and the sheer size of their exquisitely shaped jaws, teeth and paws, I could watch them for hours. Their beauty and majesty is incomparible. I hope and pray that all the species that are left can be brought back from the edge of extinction and re-populated, however hopeless it seems. TIGERS ARE SACRED, THEY BELONG ON OUR PLANET EARTH. A WORLD WITHOUT TIGERS IS LIKE: A SKY WITHOUT A SUNSET, AN OCEAN WITHOUT WAVES, A FLOWER WITH NO SCENT, A TREEE WITHOUT AUTUMN, A BIRD WITHOUT ITS SONG, A RAINBOW WITHOUT COLOUR & A NIGHT SKY VOID OF MOONLIGHT.

Thank you everyone-I'm swept away by your comment Sally-for me the tiger represents not only beauty and majesty but true independence in a world that does not allow for it. This is the very essence of the ultimate and there is a jealousy that stalks this world, as well, that is dedicated to taking that freedom and independence away by various means-systematically-reducing habitat and then pitting the tiger against human influence...and then using that very precious animal as some ignorant remedy and reducing it, diminishing it...the tiger is a flame and spirit -and it must not burn out.

The last part of the article reminds me of the last part of Tigers in Red Weather. Ruth, the writer, puts out the "tiger yes" and the "tiger no"--either tigers will survive or will die. Personally, there is a chance, but I feel this is something the ENTIRE GLOBAL community has to be involved in. Tigers are umbrella species, which means if they and the ecosystems are protected, then many other animals will also be protected. All the nations of the world, not just the tiger states, are dependent on the tiger because they are dependent on the forests in which they live. Without these forests, many other animals and plants will die, erosion in those areas will lead to famine and starvation, and diseases controlled normally by tigers will become rampant. I think the answer to "tiger yes" or "tiger no" is dependent on everyone--saving the tiger is everyone's business, not just those few scientists, government officials, or conservationists.

This is a very sad story the world will be all the poorer for their passing, if this is allowed to continue.India it's self will suffer if these beautiful animals are allowed to go extinct.Tigers are an icon for their country.Every time I hear mention of India I think of Tigers. They can of course be saved if the will is there. We can but hope and pray for their survival.
