Please help us- get the word out - this poor cat has been lost in JFK since Thursday and they have done nothing about it. Now JFK has been evacuated due to Irene but they had Thursday and Friday to see about this poor cat. The owner is distraught and she is in California with the other cat - he was a rescue from Animal Control and Care in NY - I was involved in his rescue - this is a very personal issue for me. Please friends - get the word out!

I'm spreading the news about this as far and wide as I possibly can. Everyone needs to let AA know that many animal lovers will not be flying their airline if they don't start doing more to find Jack and make sure he has his needs met, like food and water, until he can be found!

Here is an depth explanation of what happened -
Jack The Cat was rescued from the NYCACC by Karen Pascoe several years ago (along with Barry, who has become his brother). After 22 years of living in NYC, Karen got a great new job offer in Cali, and decided that it was time for her and the boys to go out west. And so the story begins...

Karen, Jack and Barry were supposed to take flight 177 on 8/25/11. Jack was in his kennel along with my other cat Barry. We cleared security and I said goodbye to them as the American Airlines handler was putting the plastic ties around the kennel door.

Karen went back to the passenger area to get something to eat. She received a call at 6:04 pm from an American Airlines employee letting her know that 1 of her cats was missing. She began working with Valerie Latty from Customer Service who took me to inbound baggage claim where Jack was lost.

Inbound baggage claim is a HUGE area... and Jack was nowhere to be seen. After checking for over an hour (missing flight 177 and being re-booked onto flight 17), she boarded the later flight, assured that they would call her as soon as Jack was found.

Karen was given the following number to contact American Airlines at Central Baggage Service: 972-425-6565 . She has left several messages and has not yet been contacted by anyone in that office. She was also told by Valerie Latty that she would receive a proactive call from Customer Service on Friday.

The supervisor for the inbound baggage area is Anthony Gallo, who hasn't responded to her emails. The woman who first alerted her to the cat being lost didn't respond when she followed up, searching for more information.

INDEED, Karen heard NOTHING from American Airlines until Sunday 8/28 at approximately noon ET (66 hours after the she was informed that Jack was missing). At that time, JFK Baggage Manager (not sure if that is her correct title) "Andy" called and said that yes, they were looking, but they had not yet been able to get humane traps. The manager also informed Karen that "the last time this happened, it took about a month to find the cat." REALLY?!?

Can you help us put pressure on AA at JFK to step up their efforts?

why cant they put food and water out and get a vet to give them something so the cat will fall asleep and borrow a trap from a rescue nearby ??? This is rediculous!!! what a runaround..... Praying for the safe return of this beautiful cat.!!!

This poor cat must be absolutely terrified, not to mention hungry and confused. This matter needs URGENT ATTENTION, and a speedy resolution so that Jack's owner can have her beloved family member back. This type of poor customer service and utter disregard for Jack will ensure I will NEVER fly AA again. I will reconsider if this matter is given TOP PRIORITY and Jack is quickly found and reunited with his family.

I can not believe they are using the hurricane as an excuse to not find him - he disappeared on THURSDAY. I would certainly never use AA for my pets and hesitant to use for myself now too as they apparently don't care about animals. I hope they find him soon as he must be starving. Thoughts are with the family for the safe return of Jack.

UPDATE on AA's search for Jack the Cat
by American Airlines on Monday, August 29, 2011 at 1:28pm

We repeat our apologies for the upset caused by this situation, and wanted to share an update in our efforts to find Jack:

American has offered Jack’s owner, Karen, a flight to New York to personally visit the JFK operation and help assist with search efforts.
American has consulted with the Mayor’s Alliance Society for NYC to set up Have-A-Heart humane traps that are being placed throughout the area.
Food and water has been placed around the operation since Thursday.
If Jack feels comfortable returning to his kennel, we have placed food and water inside as well.
Employees, including the American Airlines Managing Director in JFK, have walked the entire operation in search.
All airside equipment, such as bag carts are being inspected.
The Port Authority of New York has been contacted with information and posters. They are fully cooperating in the search and distributing posters to other businesses on the airport property.
AA has placed posters in employee break-rooms, on the ramp, and throughout our JFK facility.
An alert is being placed on electronic bulletin boards visible to all employees from all departments.
“Vet Port” has been alerted and is supporting the effort. Vet Port is a veterinary service used by airlines and business local to the airport property where a lost pet would be turned in.
Access from the airside ramp area leading into the terminal building are being inspected and monitored.

We will continue searching, and as soon as we have any more information, we will share it with the community.

Up til recently I was working as an admin on PODR - Pets On Death Row - a page set aside to assist the public and approved NY rescues to take cats from the Animal Control and Care.centers in NYC. I now work with many volunteers inside ACC and with a group composed of several people who work behind the scenes to connect the public with the rescues - Jack- whose original name in 2008 was Melo- was an ACC cat that was adopted in 2008 and this is going to be a many faceted thing.

Several people are working to get as much exposure of what happened with American Airlines as possible and by extension ,hopefully exposure of ACC - although there are things happening where people are stepping forward to bring the truth about the ACC out as well.

These 2 things dovetailing as they are could very interesting indeed. I will update and add any more media exposure here as it goes along. Thank you for noting and helping with this issue.

NYC ACC needs to be in on this rescue, as I believe JFK is within their jurisdiction. The buttheads at the airline cargo could care less about this cat. With ACC involved, maybe they'll move their arses. During Hurricane Irene was the best time - nice and quiet - to set out Hav-A-Heart traps. AA blew this one big-time.
This cat is terrified and could be hiding anywhere. I'd love to know how Jack got out, as my cats' carriers were sealed in three different ways - SouthWest's standards.

I had to fly 4 cats cross-country and three had to go into cargo, only one pet per passenger. Sassy, the eldest, flew as a carry-on with me. I was a nervous wreck thinking about my cats underneath, remembering all the horror stories I've heard. It was only a 4 hr flight, but it seemed like 4 years. I got very lucky as all my cats were fine. I pray all goes well in finding poor Jack. TY Lisa and Raffi Please keep us posted.

AA - nice to see you so inspired- next time something like this happens you should jump on it rather than to erase our comments when we come to you for viable reason - you never told the owner anything and dismissed the whole thing as unimportant. Well, the press coverage is piling up and my story at Care 2 is on the front page. I hope you apply all the many helpful suggestions provided here regarding encouraging this cat to reveal himself and I hope you realize the prioritization here. Take notes- so you know what to do if it happens again because you certainly didn't know this time.

They did not want to give the owner the time of day- or any answers at all - now I think they will be more than happy to give her carte blanche and it's not enough. The way they dismissed this still rankles me.

CNN may pick this up too-

American Airlines
Rafael, we didn't erase any comments, and we've been actively searching for Jack since Thursday, using multiple tactics, many generated by this community. We are in direct contact with Karen, and flying her back to NY to help search. Again, we extend our heart-felt apology to the community. We will continue working with Karen to make this right, and will take a hard look at our policies to ensure this doesn't happen again.

this is a disgrace for the cat to be lost i would soo not go back to JFK thats dissapointing how could you lose a cat.Hopefully jack the 4 is safe and is still alive and passed thru Irene please do the best that you guys can do to find the cat. I have a dog i would would be crying my eyes out if i heard my dog got loose from the kennel and i thought it was a law not to put animals in the back of the plane where the luggage goes because many animals have become ill and have died so at all fault it is JFK

AA - 'take a hard look at your policies' - you should have done that in the FIRST place!! This cat will NOT reveal himself if he's not "comfortable" with the company that surrounds him - and humans are definitely EXcluded!! Hope he's safe and reunites with his 'family' soon!

This is unbelievable, that they take Irene as an excuse. I hope that beautiful Jack finds his way back...poor cat, I'm very sorry for him. Cats should be permitted to fly with their owners, not seperated. For dogs it's different because of their size...but for cat's it should be possible.

So a cat snuck out. Maybe it'll be a good mouser. All this man power in a time of crisis, wasted. Like the scenario I witnessed by way of Craigslist. A woman frantically set up a listing about a cat, in a tree. Please help. It's been there for a day, at least. Let's think about it a bit. Has anybody ever seen a cat skeleton in a tree or even an emaciated, bedraggled feline, breathing its last in a poplar? Didn't think so.

Yes- let's think Pawel- thinking not being you forte' I take it- miss the point much- the cat didn't sneak out - it escaped due to some unexplained incompetence on the part of a very incompetent airline. The woman that owned him was distraught - she went on to California and all she was told was that he was loose in JFK baggage- not quite a cat in a tree- and that a major hurricane was coming in and that JFK would be evacuated and closed.

She did not know if he had water or food or anything else- now she knows what she needs to and they are flying her in and a plan will be implemented to try to recover him - albeit very late in the game.

Not quite a cat in a tree, Pawel.

Here is an update :

UPDATE on AA's search for Jack the Cat - August 31, 6:50PM EST
by American Airlines on Monday, August 29, 2011 at 1:28pm

Update on Jack the Cat - August 31, 6:50PM EST

Our JFK employees continue to diligently search for Jack the Cat. Unfortunately there are no confirmed sightings of Jack at this time.

As well as our oneworld alliance partners, we have asked all other airlines at JFK to join us in the search for Jack.

Update on Jack the Cat - August 30, 7:06PM EST

Karen (Jack’s owner) has accepted our offer to fly her from California to New York to assist with the search and see first-hand our efforts to locate Jack. We have accommodated Karen’s wish to travel this weekend and will escort her throughout JFK.

Port Authority confirmed no sightings of Jack have been reported from patrols of the airfield.

Daily briefings are occurring to review progress and generate any ideas for locating Jack.

Representatives from the Port Authority of NY, including a Wildlife Management representative, participated in the 8/30 debriefing providing recommendations and offering extended support including extra traps.

Contacts with search dog and other animal tracking services have been made and are being evaluated.

Extensive CCTV footage in the immediate and surrounding areas are under review.

All oneworld alliance airlines, Swiss port, Jet Blue & other airlines have received a flyer with a request for assistance, and we are making a request of all airlines at JFK for the same.

American Airlines is conducting a thorough investigation into how Jack escaped.

We have adopted some of your ideas into our search plan and thank the community for your ongoing support for Jack during this period. We understand that a cat is a loved family member for so many, including many of our own employees, and we are doing our utmost to find Jack.

Update on Jack the Cat - August 29, 2:28PM EST

FYI: Several large independent groups of activists have called for a full BOYCOTT of American Airlines and its subsidiaries. Large picketing demonstrations are likely to be organized soon. Preparations have begun. The purpose is to make the airline(s) grow a heart and develop some compassion for their customers and customer's furry family members! Some of American Airlines' suppliers and contractors are also joining this movement. This movement will escalate until Jack is reunited with his family AND American Airlines changes its standard operating procedures regarding companion animals.

I've changed my profile pic on facebook to JACK
hoping it will help bring some awareness to this sweet boy's plight ... won't you do the same?

As of this afternoon (Sept 2) Spencer, the tracking dog has confirmed Jack left the baggage terminal
& is NOW outside, he followed his scent to some bushes, but sadly his scent was unclear from that point

As you never know who may see his pic & recognize him wandering around outside the terminal,
possibly near long term parking ... if we ALL share his story & photo ... he may be found safe & sound

Sending lots of PAWSitive Energy ... praying & hoping he is found very soon & reunited with his family

HUGE hugs to everyone who is looking & helping in any way they can - xo

I will be sending a quick prayer. St. Francis prayer Prayer for a Lost Pet
We ask you to help us find Jack,
our dear pet who is now lost.
We know that you placed animals on the earth
for many reasons, including companionship for man.
We therefore ask you to help us find our lost companion,
and pray that You will keep him safe
and protect him from harm until he is found.
We join our prayers with St. Francis,
St. Anthony of Padua, and all the saints,
and pray in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Volunteers - Good idea. I'll start contacting action teams in that part of the country/world. We are going to need to coordinate everything so I'm making some calls to pros who may be able to deploy some very serious technology and hardware. Everyone, please rally your friends, family, co-workers, everyone you know. Time to mobilize to make this a full-scale rescue operation. There may even be others out there besides Jack who may be rescued as a part of this mobilization. I see there are no petitions or boycott notices yet on Care2 so I'll draft them as soon as possible. I spoke with AMR earlier. They believe this will just go away on its own. I wonder what they'll believe when 5,000 picket their headquarters in Ft. Worth TX? We are also asking AMR to fund this mobilization if they really do not want this PR Nightmare to overwhelm them. With no revenue it wouldn't be long till their fleet could only be seen in pictures in history books. The attitude of their greedy corporate hierarchy over this, or any event like this, is appalling!

Thanks Dan - my rescue connections are on this too- there is a lot of interaction and fast moving activity right now - think TNR experts are going out on this one- I have a great many NYC rescues to go to and they are all active in this. Will be getting back to you tomorrow with more. Thanks everyone keep the pressure on - and paws crossed! Think we should also take advantage of the opportunity here to get some things dovetailing with the travesty that is ACC - from whence Jack came. Later.

UPDATE: At this point in the search they think he has gone off JFK grounds and into Ozone Park. We are trying to notify feral colony caretakers- ACC in case he is put in there so the rescues can be ready to pull him - and we are trying to cover as many bases as possible.

Please remember to voice your opinions with their Customer Relations-

Jack The Cat is Lost in AA Baggage at JFK
Since there are so many questions about whether the search is continuing, please rest assured - IT IS. Yesterday was a very big day because of having the search dog and handler in (and because we were hoping Jack was still in the baggage area), but now we are partnering with all the rescue groups in the area to begin an ongoing search strategy. I, too was, hoping for a movie-style ending to this - but that's not the way this is going. The search WILL go on!!!

Action update: Teams are assembling. Trying to coordinate local activity at the ground of search to take place. Enlisting assistance of pro volunteer teams. Petition to be displayed on Care2 is being reviewed by legal team at this moment and should have final approval shortly (I hope). One must be careful when drafting petitions against multinational corporations. [Already had to revise it twice] Boycott is voluntary and word is spreading. We are joining voices for AMR to take responsibility for negligent actions leading to Jack becoming lost. Protests are not an option at airports due to security concerns. Protest at AMR headquarters has been delegated to a volunteer activist group in Southern US and they are trying to work out the most effective strategy. I am a thousand miles from JFK and I am personally (still) trying to engage AMR corporate officers in a cooperative dialogue to enlist their assistance, both physical and financial, in finding Jack to reunite him with his family. If they would help, and if Jack is found as a result it would certainly redeem them in the eyes of animal-lovers worldwide. I will continue to do my best to coordinate efforts as much as I possibly can from my office here. Also now posting notices for activists and volunteers from that area to step forward to help in the search! There may be a lot of ground to cover and lots of places Jack can hide. We need to find him as quickly as possible!

As far as I can see, Dan - AA is doing nothing of any note regarding this- if you have something in the way of action - I would definitely start the wheels turning. Thanks everyone - this airline is disgusting-takes responsibility for the transport of animals and then does nothing to follow up on the needs of a cat that may be endangered and never found again. What a travesty!

I agree. All attempts to find Jack and resolve this in a light more favorable to AA & AMR have failed - by their choice. This matter is insignificant to them. My associates are beginning an all-out smear campaign and are funding advertisements on tv in as many markets as possible.. Putting the final touches on petition/pledge as I type this. I'll be posting it on this and several other sites. I'm putting all my other projects on hold temporarily so I can concentrate on helping to find Jack and get him back to his Mama who loves him and misses him. Now back to work! Jack, we're gonna find you buddy! Just hold on! Everyone reading this, please post a note and we'll give you an active assignment to get involved in this! There are millions of homeless animals out there but Jack has a home and a family who loves him and misses him very much! C'mon everyone! Let's do this for Jack! Let's get him home!!!

Just checking - Has anyone seen this post and have those of you in the area checked this region on foot?

Sept. 2, 2011 From:

A woman named Deborah Burke Andre posted the following on the “Jack the Cat is Lost in AA Baggage at JFK” Facebook page: “I am an employee at JFK. Today I was driving by the long term parking lot when I spotted a cat that could have been this one. When I got out of my car to try and get a closer look, it ran towards the water edge.”

We may want to send a search party there. Still rounding up and coordinating volunteers. Many had plans this past weekend but quite a few are stepping forward now.

Update: Petition is drafted and ready to go but will not be published just yet by request of Mary Beth and Karen who have found a little more cooperation from American Airlines as of today.. My blood is boiling as I sit and wait. I live to take on large corporations like AA. I sit on my hands for a while and wait. American employed a very good spin doctor to soothe Karen and Mary Beth and keep the lid from exploding off the pressure cooker we constructed. I plan to keep in touch and watch the situation closely. A couple of activists who shall remain nameless are making their way out to NY now to assess the situation and make some contacts. I hope to hear back from them by the weekend. Raffi, I only hope that somehow Jack is found in spite of everything. That is the first end goal. There is a second goal to force change in policy and operations to make sure this never happens again. For now, we wait... Does anyone have a deck of cards?

Good news! A couple volunteer activists made it to New York and said they'll be able to coordinate a great ground search when the time comes. Hopefully there will be enough volunteers if Jack is not found before that. They spoke to reps at JFK (from Port Authority I believe) and though no one is happy with the fact that Jack has not yet been found, we cannot ignore the fact that there would be a serious security issue it a bunch of folks started searching inside the airport unescorted. They did convey the message that all anybody wants is to get Jack back home where he belongs. I still think American Airlines still needs to change their policy to make sure nothing like this happens again. I told my associates to update here or at least contact me with any info and I will update here. For now, we'll wait and hope Karen and Mary Beth are able to get the needed cooperation in the search for Jack from their end, but the petition is still ready to go if they don't.

I will keep my eye on this situation, but I am going to resume work on my other tasks so I will not update here unless there's big news. One big issue I'm returning my attention to is a town in Ohio that has police officers using their sidearms to execute cats and dogs. Let's all keep Jack in our thoughts and prayers. I keep hoping to hear the breaking news that he's been found. It hasn't happened yet, but maybe soon.

Yeah I had activists head that way and do some digging around. As it turns out, American Airlines is using spin doctors to control the media fallout from this mess and is actually doing very very little about Jack. I'm going to contact Karen and Mary Beth and tell them it's in Jack's best interest to make this thing ugly to try to get some action on the part of American, instead of just a bunch of words. They are being pacified by some of the best spin doctors that American's money can buy at this point.

It's all routine publicity and opinion control. Bad publicity is bad for business. American Airlines has no reason to want to find Jack or cooperate in any search unless it affects their organization's finances. They hired some very good spin doctors to try to give this a positive outlook when really there is less being done today than during the first few days of Jack's disappearance. There was a report that Jack was sighted near a US Post Office and that searchers were heading that way with the cooperation of that post office. When contacted, the post office knew nothing of any missing cat, let alone Jack, and no one from any airline had been in contact with them.

It is understandable that Karen and Mary Beth would want to avoid stirring up a hornet's nest by giving our Find Jack [aggressive] campaign their blessing because that might cause a rift in their relationship with those at the airlines who they are in contact with. Unfortunately those reps are the best spin doctors in the business telling tales straight out of playbooks of some of the best business negotiators.

We employ our own strategists and spin doctors but our purpose is not to preserve corporate interests, but to fight for what's right. In this case, we want Jack found and returned home safely, and we are tired of watching the Airlines throw a blanket over the whole thing. The fact is there are many champions for the cause of animals, especially companions, from a wide range of professions and educational backgrounds. Each of us alone is one voice. As we network and more people sign on to the cause, those voices have become one. That voice will become louder as more and more sign on to the cause! And THAT is the voice that large airlines like American have to hear because it cannot and will not be silenced!

The time has come and is overdue for the search for Jack - the real search! That's why in a short while petitions will appear all over the web to boycott American Airlines and AMR Corp & its subsidiaries (ex: American Eagle). There will be paper petitions also located strategically, located mostly in airports around the world, in New York City, and in Fort Worth Texas where AMR is headquartered. In our eyes and opinion, Jack has a higher priority than excessive corporate earnings or the wealth of shareholders. American Airlines wouldn't even be around if it wasn't for the massive government subsidies handed to them by the United States.

American caused the problem which allowed Jack to escape not only his carrier, but most certainly the baggage area since he was unattended as all animals are. Airlines consider companion animals nothing more than luggage.

So do I. A petition has a better chance of success on this site anyway. When a petition is published here, it will have a great chance of finding its way into search engines since Care2 is networked so well. has no where near the ability this site has. After I published the same petition there, I checked on it this morning. I searched the site, found nothing, tried changing keywords, still found nothing, and finally had to find the petition using my account or the direct link. My signature was still the only signature on that petition. It doesn't do much good to publish a petition if people can't find it to sign it!

I was asked why the petition was composed the way it was and why it reads more like a court document than an average petition letter. The answer is once Jack is found and reunited with his family, the monumental task of changing policy will begin and the petition was drafted in such a way so it will not only have a rock solid argument now, but will be able to serve a purpose after Jack comes home. For now, everything is centered on finding Jack and getting him home.

Samantha, I love that picture!

I hope everyone continues to join the boycott, signs the petition, shares it, and all hopes and prayers are with Jack! We will find you, Jack!

Tuesday September 13, 2011, 3:31 pm won't reach the audience Jack needs. I've been in contact with some folks in NY that might be able to assist in the search. We will have no further cooperation from AA, not that they did anything to begin with except to increase spending on advertising in markets that were giving Jack a voice. One moron editor for one of the Dallas news sources thinks this is all a joke and minimizes pet owners in general in favor of kissing up to the big airline. Public interest in general seems to be abandoning poor Jack. 13,000+ "likes" but only a handful willing to help find him. That's sad. I'm not giving up on Jack and I hope some of the rest of you won't give up on him either. The search continues. We'll find you Jack! We won't give up on you!

It is not shocking. The airlines have enough trouble keeping passengers safe than worry about caged animals . What should the airlines do, assign a personal assistant to each animal and make sure it receives Kitty treats during its voyage? Like a flight attendant could maneuver a little pushcart with Kitty treats and Snausages to keep unruly pets from barking or hissing at each other. Yes. That's a good idea.

The airlines have enough money to hire people to be responsible for animals in transit. It is their moral obligation to take responsibility for all living things in their care.

Pawel L., perhaps you are right. Perhaps we should stop caring about animals at all. While we're at it, let's stop caring for the elderly because their time has passed. And children are a waste of time because they can't go get jobs and contribute to the house! How 'bout we just go all out and do whatever we like at any cost? Is that your world, Pawel L? Is that where you live? Your thinking, though you are freely entitled to your own opinion, is still quite distasteful to me. I find your lack of heart and compassion disturbing. Thinking like yours is the reason why the world is plunging further into chaos. It is why we have crime, and why so many harbor such hatred in their hearts. Remove all compassion and you will lose humanity. Lose humanity and there is no remorse. Without remorse there is no conscience. Take all that away and civilization collapses into total anarchy until every last person on earth lives in a world of barbarism and hate until mankind wipes himself from the face of the earth. Keep your world Pawel L. Since you are too ignorant to learn the facts of this whole situation, and too foolish and filled with propagated false senses of pride and self-satisfaction to mature your thinking, you will never understand the true power of the heart. Jack is a living, breathing member of a loving family and he deserves more than the unfeeling cold-hearted indifference he has received so far by an airline that doesn't deserve to exist. He deserves to be found and to be returned home. American Airlines has the resources and the ability to make this happen. They choose not to because they have no heart. Their corporate officers are so filled with greed that they can no longer be considered people. I will laugh if I outlive any of them because in spite of all their riches and all their wealth, it ALL gets left behind.

We will find Jack! We will bring him home! We will not give up! Jack, we are still here for you and we will find you!

As far as that other person who has left the negative comments, Pawel L. you are not worth my attention or the attention of anyone posting here, working to bring home Jack, and I will acknowledge you no longer. Enjoy your existence in your imaginary realm of uncivilized whimsical nonsense, where you are self-righteous, uncaring, and indifferent, filled with an abundance of foolishness and chaos!

wELL, HAVE BEEN SICK SO COULDN'T CATCH UP TIL NOW- Rafael Apollo Lido Well, I could see this in my magic eight ball- Friends of Jack: here's a little piece of information for you to chew on... American Airlines has told Karen they will not pay for her flight back to NYC to search for Jack tomorrow. (She's got the financing covered. We're NOT telling you this to ask for money. We just want you to know what actions/inactions they are engaged in.)

Raffi - I have been in contact with several United States Senators and Congressman regarding this issue. Not just about Jack but about the indifference of airlines in general toward our loved ones. I'm confident there will be an investigation but I have several more upcoming meetings before I'll know for sure. I hope we will soon see "Jack's Law" on the books as part of the US Codified Law.

I will work through the night to spread word on the search and to contact everyone I can in NYC to volunteer. We need more details. My associates would like to know when/where to meet and how best to get a hold of someone. They will contact. Hopefully we'll be able to mobilize teams standing by all over New York City by morning. How sure are we that Jack is still inside the complex? If there is a chance he could be elsewhere nearby? We may be able to have the ground-pounding battalion ready to march (optional) but I will need to notify local authorities before doing so.

Jack DESPERATELY NEEDs people to fan out through the unrestricted areas of the JFK airport property and surrounding areas/neighborhoods to notify EVERYONE they see that he is lost. This can be done by anyone that is available at anytime, day or night since there are different shifts that come in and out of the airport all day and all night, 7 days a week.

Jack’s post cards are available at the Bobbi & The Strays Vetport facility – Bldg. 189 Cargo area C at JFK

Cargo/Building area map

Air train and Bus map

Hopefully Jack will be found by this weekend, if not, there will be a coordinated search/flier blitz this Saturday, September 17th beginning at 7:30am We will be meeting at Bobbi & The Strays Vetport facility, Bldg #189 in Cargo area “C” at JFK airport.

Public Transportation:

Bus: Q7 or Q3

Take cargo area exit

Follow signs for Cargo C

Take cargo plaza road

Turn left on north service court

I will have a limited number of airport maps on hand Saturday so if possible, please print a copy of those maps posted above and hopefully we will have enough people on hand that we run out of the supply of postcards. With this possibly being the case, if anyone that is joining the search can print fliers, please do so and bring them with you along with clear packing tape to post fliers. And bring a friend or two!!

I’ll put together mapped areas to post fliers and will use a sign in sheet to collect cell phone numbers, so that if Jack is sighted and you are listed as being stationed or posting in that area, I can call you to alert you of the sighting.

If you are coming to the airport to help with this initiative, please be careful driving, keep your hazard lights on and post a copy of Jack’s lost flier in the back window of your vehicle. People will take notice of your vehicle with the flashing lights and see Jack’s flier. This will serve as sort of a mobile billboard.

If you are going out at night, wear bright/light colored clothing and be careful when getting in and out of your vehicle. There is a lot of traffic in and around the airport.

Stay out of restricted areas and please be courteous and respectful to others.

Please be sure not to spook Jack if you see him and do not chase him. Take note of your location and call the sighting in immediately to one of the numbers on the flier/postcard.

As with every search for a lost pet, “FLIERS GET THE SIGHTINGS, SIGHTINGS FIND THE PET”.

For those out of towners that would like to help, we need some faxing done. Here’s the link to the JFK Chamber of Commerce. Many of the member’s companies have offices, work in, or service JFK Airport.

Please fax both the attached letter and flier to these members. I suggest a handful of out of town volunteers take on this task. One person can take companies with letters beginning in “A & B” someone else can fax to “C & D” etc. Please let us know who is doing what prior to faxing them so we do not duplicate the efforts.

We are working on getting a complete list of businesses in JFK and surrounding areas, so don’t worry, there’s gonna be plenty for out of towners to help with.

If you have a thought of someplace to notify via fax or phone, please post it to let us know it’s being covered and JUST DO IT! So many people have so many good suggestions but it is pretty much impossible for Mary Beth, Karen or I to do. Like many of you, we all have jobs we’re employed at and have fur kids to take care of.

We need an out of town coordinator willing to keep track of the fax/letter campaign. If anyone is available/willing to receive this information and keep it organized while we are taking care of the ground search and the behind the scenes of Jack’s search, that would be a huge help. Please contact Mary Beth.

• JFK covers 4,930 acres and has more than 30 miles of roadway within it. It has 7 terminals, 18,000 parking spaces, almost 1.5 million square feet of offices and warehouse/cargo buildings. ABOUT 35,000 PEOPLE ARE EMPLOYED THERE. We need to get the word out to these people .

Yes- here is the petition- Please sign and pass on everywhere-thanks everyone.

I have something else to share with you- seems -despite the fact that they did not find Jack (his 25 day gone) this weekend -they did rescue another one - this is a very happy story-

"Nicole DiBona

Hi Everyone!
When I went to search for Jack I started out by going outside of JFK with another searcher. We went and hung fliers. At one pole I noticed a box that was taped at both sides with holes poked in it. I rolled the box and heard a thud. Rolled it back and heard another thud and then then box moved. We put the box in the trunk and when we got to the meeting area we looked inside and this little 7 month old beauty was taped inside it and left to die! WTF!? Marilynne, the other searcher took the cat home. We went searching for a cat and we found one! THANK YOU JACK FOR SAVING THIS LIFE!"

That is some great news coming out of this search! Now another kitty, abandoned to die, has a warm, loving fur-ever home. We will find Jack! We will never give up!!!

Someone I am acquainted with recently found a young kitten sitting on their doorstep in a rural area far from me. The kitten returned day after day, and now they are searching for his guardians to see if he's been reported lost. When I saw a picture of that kitten, I was amazed how closely he resembles Jack. Seeing him made me quickly return to the phones to continue the campaign to find Jack.

Those on the ground searching for Jack are still motivated and determined to find him, as are all of us concerned with recovering Jack.

I have just learned of a terrible tragedy as a result of Irene - 68 cats in an FeLV special needs sanctuary have been displaced - 7 have drowned - and the sanctuary needs help - they need supplies and repairs and the cats need a place to go - these are FeLV cats that cannot be placed just anywhere and this wonderful sanctuary has taken a terrible hit- please pass this on and help if you can. I will be posting the story on C2 shortly-
TRAGEDY at Aslans Cats (Sanctuary for Leukemia Positive Cats)devastated by Hurricane Irene

They have some ACC cats there - one from a recent rescue- FeLV and special needs cats- please share and help - "We are trying to arrange a trip to Aslans to help with whatever they need. I believe some people are going this weekend possibly to help repair the fence. Also, transport my be needed to bring donations. Most from across country. If anyone can help or is interested in going there, please let me know."

Rafi have you had contact with the caregivers? We'll help as much as we can in finding a new home or homes for these special cats, but we may have serious possible neglect and animal cruelty issues to address with the caregiver with regards to why the cats were not evacuated, and how it is possible for seven cats to drown at location which has high ground and upper floors in the structure(s). This is both tragic and disturbing.

According to the City of Catskill, the Chamber of Commerce, the Catskill Town Police, the Green County Sheriff's Department, Green County Animal Control, the State of New York, this place doesn't exist - at least not in Catskill. There is a non-profit filing for Hudson NY but there is no known care facility or private residence used as a care facility for cats with feline leukemia. The caregiver claims she was dragged away kicking and screaming by police, but town, County and State Police all reported no such physical removals from homes anywhere during the hurricane event or after, especially not in Catskill. The police are interested in knowing more details about the drowned cats and are now going to open an investigation into this whole matter.

There have been a string of scams recently involving postings to facebook for help for entities in Catskill JUST LIKE THIS ONE!!! The Town of Catskill warns everyone to NOT send money to anyone you don't know. There is NO SUCH ORGANIZATION of Asland's Cats in Catskill NY!!!

At this time I want to warn everyone DO NOT SEND MONEY and DO NOT CROSS POST the information of the cat sanctuary said to be in Catskill! THERE IS NO CAT SANCTUARY IN CATSKILL according to local police and city authorities!!!

I will continue to investigate but the search for Jack remains TOP priority! I will post an update if I find any truth to Asland's Cats.

Dan- it's not Asland's -it's Aslan's and a friend of mine has been there she says - they are going there to see about repairing a fence and going to see about appliances that have been shorted out - when I was adminning PODR they took three cats from ACC - they cannot take them if they don't exist- ACC would never let them have them - and we were confirmed that they were taken-

My girlfriend wrote the plea for them- she is going there this weekend.

Here is their facebook page- and info- if you can help - they need repairs done- and there is a team there now working on repairing the fence to keep cats from escaping. These cats are FeLV cats- they cannot be placed easily as they would have to go to other large sanctuaries that take FeLV cats- FeLV cats can not live with cats that have not contracted FeLV - it is highly contagious that is why this sanctuary ASLAN'S CATS - is so important - because if we had a cat that was diagnosed with FeLV that was taken from ACC - they had nowhere to go- Please -they are not asking for money- they are asking for assistance and supplies- I understand a cat food company is supplying them with food- and they have some meds(they lost all their vital meds) that some vets have been able to help with to keep the cats alive- 3 very good rescue friends of mine are organizing convoys to them - they are a two woman operation and this is just such a terrible tragedy.

Here is their phone number - 646 413-8159 there is a donation icon on their page- they are in need of food - They need to replace all of these lost items:

10 50lb bags of dry food

15 litter boxes

30 cases of canned food

20 cat beds

cat trees and condos

scratching posts

She lost $3000 worth of medicines for the cats and now needs:

Lactated ringers solution, prozymes, Pen-g solution, baytril,

doxycycline, panacur, stongid, clavamox, lysine, mega C,

1cc and 3cc syringes, 18 gauge needles and 21 gauge needles

Please go to

send donations to:

Please make checks payable to: Aslans cats.

I would thank you , please, to contribute supplies to them - as they need them desperately- and not to cause them any more heartache or pain than they have already experienced - I work with over 1000 rescues around the United States- in FB - and they are stepping up to help this sanctuary. Three cats that I worked especially hard to place were taken by them - because those cats had no choice- FeLV is impossible to place-

YES JACK is the priority but this is 60 or so cats that cannot be ignored- if you can help please do- Thanks so much.

I was watching ABC last night and there was a whole news show about youtube and there was a guy who saw United break his guitar and then United refused to pay for it so he got even by writting a song called "United Breaks Guitars" and made a funny video to go with it and United caved, but it was too late the guy made more money from youtube. I wonder if there is a way to get someone to do something similar or contact that guy about American Airlines and not caring about poor Jack to REALLY get the word out! I am so surprised this has not been on the news yet!!!

Rafi I contacted Noah's Wish. I have all the unpublished phone numbers. None of the New York directors knew anything about Aslan's cats, but as they stated that's not proof positive that they did not help. My issue is more with the fact that there is no such facility in Catskill to house 68 felines, there were evacuation orders standing for the area, and the Town of Catskill has never heard of Aslan's Cats. There are also serious issues as far as what exactly the non-profit (registered to a run-down home in Hudson) is using the donation money for. There is also a serious issue of animal cruelty as law enforcement believes if there were cat deaths, it's because the cats were left to die. Materials have been submitted to law enforcement authorities who are now investigating. I will keep you updated. Again our primary mission, in spite of this remains focused on finding Jack and returning him home.

Sam - Jack's story has been all over the news for a while but according to my sources, American countered the bad press with increased purchasing of advertising in markets carrying Jack's story. Now they call it old news. There are also several others working for major news companies, who I have been asked not to name, that told me they were asked to stop talking about Jack. It was because American lined some pockets. It's sickening how that same money could be spent looking for Jack but they'd rather spend it elsewhere. How cruel! That youtube idea... Hmm... I'm going to look into that...

Update - Aslan's Cat's are legit and are respected, though they are relatively unknown and there are still issues with paperwork, listings, recognition, community, and emergency supplies. I made quite a list with which my associates and I are willing to step forward and help them. Only a few of the local police officers are aware of them and no administration officials, chamber of commerce, animal protection directories, etc.

Verdelho, a cat en-route to Canada, escaped from his cage at Auckland airport, New Zealand, 14 August 2008. We put flyers around the airport, traps placed here and there, some sightings were reported, but time went on and no Verdelho. Meanwhile, his owner in Canada was distraught. Finally he was found, very frightened and hungry, still in the airport grounds, on October 15th. After a vet check and a rest, he was sent off to Canada and his owner reported back that he arrived safely... Just don't give up. Cats are resilient and Jack is there, somewhere...

I'll try to stoke the fires of the media to bring Jack's story back into the light. Some of the protesters from Wall Street told me they wouldn't mind taking a little diversion time to go help look for him. Whoever finds him will be forever titled a Hero! I keep watching here, hoping to see a posting saying he's been found. Hopefully soon we will be able to celebrate that news. The petition/boycott will remain active until he is found. I had hoped for thousands more signatures, but so many people believed the spun lies American Airlines used to explain everything away. Hope is not lost and we are still here, still searching.

This was in the news today and it made me happy to see it:

"American Airlines parent AMR Corp. (AMR) tumbled the most since 2001, triggering automatic trading halts, on growing concern the third-largest U.S. carrier may be forced to seek bankruptcy protection."

I wish they'd go out of business and their whole fleet would be sent to rot and rust in the desert! We are still desperately trying to find Jack and a great number of us keep him in our hearts and constant prayers. We will find Jack!

I have been a part of Jack the Cat's page on facebook since the beginning, and feel so badly for the owner who was not considered "worth" a full-scale effort to reunite with their pet. The fact that American Airlines so causally dismissed it being a live animal - a living member of the family - with a comment "the last time a cat was lost it took a month to turn up" shows how little they care.

This is beyond belief - this is how they lost him???? Jack The Cat is Lost in AA Baggage at JFK
For all who have been wondering for all these weeks exactly HOW Jack got out of his carrier... we finally have an answer. The U.S. Department of Transportation requires all airlines to file monthly "incident reports" that describes what happened when a pet was lost, injured, or died while in their care. Here's American Airlines told the DOT about what happened to Jack: "This incident occurred prior to the loading of the kennel(s) on the aircraft. The customer was traveling with 2 kennels containing 1 cat in each one. A clerk had placed one kennel on top of another on a baggage cart and the kennel on top fell and resulted in the cat escaping. The entire FIS area, where this occurred, was searched and efforts to immediately locate “Jack” were unsuccessful. Subsequent efforts to locate Jack have also been unsuccessful. Some of the extraordinary efforts taken by AA to locate Jack include: posting photos of Jack in key areas around JFK and local businesses, consulting with the Mayor’s Alliance Society to set up humane traps on the airport property, consulting with the port authority and wildlife management representatives, hiring a professional “pet tracker” and issuing a “Pet Amber Alert”."

Their response and lack of action in this entire nightmare is intolerable. What kind of idiot would load pet carriers on top of each other on a baggage cart. Was the clown responsible for that born stupid, I wonder? Another example of the filthy rich corporations caring nothing for the precious cargo their company was entrusted to handle, but caring only for MONEY! They look at a pet carrier and they don't see a cat, a lost cat, a broken heart, they see dollar signs! You see how they tried to hide the truth from the start? American Airlines is pond scum!

We won't give up on Jack! EVER!

Thanks Dan - I have this from just minutes ago- my team brought it to me from the JACK THE CAT site- Jack The Cat is Lost in AA Baggage at JFK
Jack was scanned and the chip company (24hour pet watch) was the first to contact Karen. At this point, we are pretty certain that this IS Jack!!!! Our team on the ground in Queens is going to the vet where Jack is... Jack is NOT at the VetPort. He is at an emergency vet in Queens where he will have 24 hour care. The vet reported to Karen that he is dehydrated and has lost a good amount of weight, though she said that all things considered, he wasn't in bad shape. As soon as I get pictures, I will share them. HALLELUJAH!!!!!! If I have anymore background on this I will get it to you ASAP- THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!!

UPDATE on AA's search for Jack the Cat - October 25, 10:30 PM EST
by American Airlines on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 9:35pm

American Airlines is happy to announce that Jack the Cat has been found safe and well at JFK airport. American's team of airport employees have been focused on the search effort since Jack escaped on August 25, 2011. Jack was found in the customs room and was immediately taken by team members to a local veterinarian. The vet has advised that Jack is doing well at present.

American's priority was advising Jack's owner, Ms Pascoe, which occurred immediately after he was identified. Now we are also happy to advise all other Friends of Jack of this wonderful news. American will fly Jack to California to be reunited with Ms Pascoe.

The ongoing search efforts to locate Jack have included many employees at the airport who have remained vigilant in their search and committed to finding Jack. We thank the Friends of Jack for their ongoing search efforts outside the JFK perimeter and share everyone's relief that he has been found.

These - he fell through a ceiling tile- he had a large wound on his leg and had surgery and also has Fatty Liver Disease- not good- now it makes sense. Somehow he got into the ceiling of the Customs Room and the only way they found him was when a ceiling tile fell though - Oh this poor guy- this has just been too much.

So pleased to hear that Jack has been found at last, but so sorry he has fatty liver disease and hope it can be reversed. Good luck Jack, you still have 8 lives left..

He is very fragile - please cross your paws for him- this picture just broke my heart- -,1,7756209.story

Jack the Cat is back -- in the news. The ginger-colored cat found Tuesday at JFK Airport underwent surgery Thursday for a wound on his leg but remains fragile after weeks without regular food and water.

American Airlines, which lost the cat on Aug. 25, says it will pay Jack's veterinary bills and, if asked, transport for the cat and owner Karen Pascoe when Jack is able to travel. Spokesman Tim Smith says he doesn't know how much the care will cost. "We’re just focusing now on helping to see that Jack gets back up to full health," he said.

The Facebook site run by supporters of the search for Jack posted this Thursday:

"Jack's surgery was for a wound on his leg .... The vets were pleased with the outcome of the surgery, but he's still not out of the woods. All of his medical issues at this time are a result of 61 days of malnutrition. Keep the good thoughts and prayers coming..."

The site, called Jack the Cat Is Lost in AA Baggage at JFK, also said Pascoe was being flown to New York to be with Jack, courtesy of American. Pascoe had taken then 18-pound Jack to be shipped from New York to California on Aug. 25 but was later told by the airline that the cat had escaped.

The search was on. The airline started its own Facebook page dedicated to Jack, and supporters have kept the feline on the nation's radar via Facebook. Since Tuesday, the Facebook page added more than 500 new fans.

I reported here and made a ton of phone calls, but didn't do enough to deserve thanks. Everything else we tried to accomplish from here fell apart. I'll decline the thanks and instead allow it to pass along to the folks who participated in the ground search, and those who rescued kitties along the way during the search. I thank everyone who supported Jack and the search, and all those now supporting the search for the other missing cats in the posts. Every cat deserves a warm, loving fur-ever home.

I am happy to say that my FB team worked feverishly to assist with placement for at least 6-8 cats that werecaught up in the search for Jack- Jack had been critical up until a day ago - he has been transferred to BluePearl Vet Center in Manhattan from the original vet care center- I will be getting an update to you as soon as I have one. I want to THANK YOU ALL for supporting this story - I have not been in CARE for a few years now and this is the first story I have posted in at least 2 of them- I have no doubt that posting this story and all your accompanying support and Dan's petitions have served to bring about public awareness and I am pleased to say that American Airlines is paying all expenses for Jack's care- as well they should and he has the best of it. . More as I know it.

I have been struggling with the flu and still doing Halloween stuff with my son and dealing with some personal issues, so I am just reading this now and I'm very glad to hear the happy news! It sounds like Jack is resilient and I have faith he will be OK. I certainly hope AA is footing the vets bills!

Thank you for all your help, Dan and everyone. At least he was safe and found and the whole world loves him. He will never be forgotten. Love you all.

Jack The Cat is Lost in AA Baggage at JFK He was with Karen yesterday, and his condition was worsening. He was treated overnight, and she (and I) both had extensive conversations with the vets at Blue Pearl regarding his condition. Jack had extensive wounds on the back of his body, and the wounds were unable to heal because his skin had deteriorated due to the malnutrition that occurred while he was lost. Despite antibiotics, the infections were worsening, and his skin was continuing to deteriorate. He needed surgery to treat the wounds, but there was not enough available skin to close the wounds after the surgery. The vet compared his skin condition to having severe burns over 50-60% of his body. The vet was very clear that she had conferred with every possible doctor regarding options for Jack, but none of them left him with a substantial chance of survival and all of them involved him suffering. Jack had been through so much, and the last thing anyone wanted was for him to suffer more. Jack was bathed in love and crossed over just a few minutes ago.

We thank everyone who has gone on this journey with us. We have been introduced to people we have come to not only respect, but love. We will continue our work on this page… and will also be starting a dedicated website in Jack’s honor. We want people to understand the risks that attend putting an animal in cargo, and we hope to spur change in the industry so that no one else ever has to go through this again. We honor Jack, we honor all the other animals who have been killed, injured, or lost while being transported through cargo procedures, and we honor all of you who have taken the time to share your kindness and love with us.

Finally, we ask that if you are from the media and want to do a follow-up on this story, please contact Joanne Lynch with Blue Pearl at 815-549-7688. She will coordinate all your calls and help you get in touch with Karen. PLEASE do not call Karen or Mary Beth directly.

Thanks to all of you for your love & kindness. We still have 2 cats to transport… and a message to send to all the airlines and the government that is time to make sure all of our pets are safe when they travel. I’ll be back on this page tomorrow… blessings to all!! RIP, Jack… we’ll all see you soon.

No, Cornelius, I think you knew exactly what to say. Your comment sums up what we all feel now. Well done.

I posted a closing comment for Jack's petitions saying goodbye to our dearest and most beloved friend, and thanking each and every person whose life was touched by Jack, who visited these pages and joined together in support for Jack, following his story.

Jack touched millions of lives around the world. Through the search for him by those who love Jack, other cats were found and rescued who would have otherwise died and not known love. How do you say goodbye to someone as big as Jack, who fills our hearts with so much hope. How do we let go of someone we worked so hard to find and see again? How do you immortalize a soul as warm and wonderful as Jack, whose loved ones had such an abundance of compassion in their hearts, there was enough to find and help other cats as well?

Jack cannot be forgotten - it's impossible. Once touched by something as magnificent as Jack and this entire community built around him, there's no way he can ever leave us. His legacy is so iconic, so titanic, it is hope itself. As we ALL now mourn Jack's passing (just as there are tears among my house, my family, my friends for Jack) We will never forget him. We will love our dear Jack forever, and that love will live on forever in our hearts.

I am so glad Jack and his owner were able to reunite and they were able to say good-bye to each other. I was shocked and heart broken to hear that he passed away! I am so sorry for the loss of Jack. I am glad that his owner got closure and was not left wondering forever. I am sure his family is heartbroken and I wish them peace during this time of loss.

How about a petition to make it ILLEGAL to treat pets as luggage??? I would hate to see Jack die in vain! I would LOVE to see that what Jack and his family went through in the end did some good for others. When there is a senseless tragedy there should be a change for the better!

RIP Jack.

Why this is Important

Help us create "Jack the Cat's" Law, a law forcing airlines to put GPS (or similar technology) tracking collars on family pets traveling in cargo holds. Failure of the airline to provide tracking methods should result in significant fines.

Every year, family pets go missing from airline baggage areas and are never located again. Jack the cat was lost in the NYC JFK airport in the American Airlines baggage center Aug. 25, 2011. Three weeks later, he remains missing.

The cat was secured in his kennel and double secured with plastic ties by an American Airline employee. Thirty minutes later, Jack's owner, Karen Pascoe, was notified that Jack had disappeared from his kennel. The baggage and surrounding areas have been searched for weeks and Jack is still lost.

The airlines have been slow to respond and provide support in searching for the cat. In fact, it took the airline 60 hours before calling Ms. Pascoe back with an initial update on rescue efforts. It was only once the situation hit the media and went viral that they began to react in a responsible (but limited) manner. We must force the airlines to have a quick retrieval method in place.

We have a draft almost ready for submission for revision to bill for legislation. We are compiling the data from the feasibility study which we began working on when Jack was lost. We intend this draft legislation to act as a guideline for the final law. Having most of the footwork done, and the studies included with he draft should bring Jack's Law to the floor of both Houses fairly quickly. We hope. With the power of popular petitions, like the one we are signing, adding momentum to this law, it has a much better chance for success.

Get ready. When the bill is finally submitted to the houses by representatives, we will all need to get on the phone, start mailing letters, emailing, and even meeting with our representatives to push this through. The power is with the people. This law could not have existed even seven years ago. Recent precedent set by the U.S. Courts now allow for this to be law.

If no news comes out sooner, I will update as soon as I have confirmation of sponsorship by any representative. We will then ask our reps to co-sponsor.

...Even though it's just a little too late for our dear beloved Jack.

I got a message from one of Dan's friends. She says he passed away last night! I am so sad for the world's loss. I guess he was a loner and mostly just took care of cats. The world needs people to put such an effort into animals when so many are ignored and neglected!

Yes- Sam- he was a friend of mine and I want to tell you that I received one of the most incredible letters from him (not knowing his health conditions) where he wrote of his love for Jack and how caught up in Jack's plight he was - he wrote most of the cat petitions for Jack and the other one for the injured cat in VA that was bludgeoned by a cop- he was utterly devoted. I am going to post that note here - I just got the one you are talking about today. I was shocked. What a wonderful and dedicated man . Thank you all for helping us with Jack - neither Jack now Dan could be saved but they are most definitely always going to be loved.

Goodbye from Dan
Dan has been in the hospital for over a week and was released so he could spend his last days at home. Dan left us quietly during the night, surrounded by the cats he loves so much. His legacy has ended, leaving behind no family, and only a couple of friends. He always fought hard for cats and dogs. He always said they are more deserving than humans of help, rescue, and love, since they are innocent and are incapable fo the unthinkable cruelty humans inflict upon animals and upon each other.

Dan left this world the same way he entered the world: Quietly in the night. No one but his cats were by his side when he drew his last breath. His cats now hold their own time of mourning. He spent nearly not a single night away from them. He was a strange man.

I have carried out his wish to say goodbye to those of you he kept in contact with on this website and fulfilled that obligation. There is nothing more to be said about him. He will have no funeral since his only family were his cats. Even if there was a funeral, it would be a very lonely one.

He would want everyone to continue saving cats and dogs, rescuing them from harm, torture, and death, and hopefully finding or providing them a warm, loving forever home (his words used on many occasions).

I will be deleting this and other accounts from his webs shortly. I know he would wish you all well and would want you all to keep saving the innocent. Farewell.

I got a letter the night before he passed, but due to what I thought was the flu, but found out today it is pneumonia, I did not see until after he passed. I feel terrible because we talked often and I really liked him as a person, he seemed so funny and nice, and I missed my chance to properly say good bye. In fact I tried to answer and could not figure out why it would not send at first until I saw the good bye letter.
I am sure Jack is being well loved and cared for by Dan. After all if they don't allow pets in Heaven that would be hell. :)
Do you know if Dan's cats will find good homes? The thought has me utterly heart broken. (I am such an animal lover that I am slightly allergic to cats and still have three that would other wise be ferrals.) According to this letter there is really anyone to take in his many babies???....

From the very very very long letter that Dan wrote me I got the impression that he left his cats well looked after- and that he made every provision for them. They were his entire world. He also worked with several of the rescues that I work with here in Minnesota and some of the cats he had taken belonged to them. The rescues will see to things.

It just seemed like his passing was rather sudden, but I could be mistaken. I guess he at least knew a couple days before.
Thank you, I am very glad to hear that his cats will be in good hands. I know they were his world.
