Demand U.S. Representatives Acknowledge the Existence of Global Climate Change

Target: The United States House of Representatives

Goal: Recognize the existence of climate change and take steps to combat its effects

The earth is currently going through a potentially catastrophic period of global climate change. This shift, which has been predicted by scientists for decades, will result in extreme weather phenomena, and has the potential to cause billions in damage. Unfortunately, due to a rejection of the evidence combined with partisan posturing, many politicians in the United States have refused to acknowledge the existence of global climate change.

In the United States, we have seen concrete and destructive evidence of global climate change. Over the past year, we have experienced massive tornado outbreaks across the country, huge forest fires in the south, hurricanes in the east, and have lived through the hottest year on record.

Unless politicians—who hold the power to prepare for future extreme weather events—acknowledge the existence of global climate change, the United States public will suffer. Simply denying the existence of climate change does not change the fact that it is happening, and can only result in the United States being woefully unprepared for catastrophic weather (for example, Hurricane Katrina).

Sign this letter in order to demand that your representatives publicly acknowledge the existence of climate change and take steps to combat its effects. The first step to solving a problem is to acknowledge its existence and the denial of a problem as large as climate change has the potential to be catastrophic if it isn’t addressed.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear United States House of Representatives,

In the face of recent extreme weather events, it has become absolutely vital that you, our representatives, acknowledge the very real problem of global climate change. A great many of you do acknowledge climate change and this letter is not directed at you. Unfortunately, a significant number of Unites States Congressmen do not listen to the scientific community and are unwilling to look into ways of dealing with the consequences of global climate change.

The United States has suffered unusually large numbers of tornadoes, massive wildfires, hurricanes, and droughts, all of which were worsened or caused by global climate change. The very real consequences of this phenomenon cannot be denied and we, as a country, must prepare for worse weather in the future.

Global climate change is real, dangerous, and does not stop if people simply refuse to acknowledge its existence. As our representatives, it is your duty to assess all potential threats to your constituency and try to do what is best for your voters’ interests. I, as well as everybody else to sign this letter, implore you to stop denying climate change, and to begin working on policy to deal with it and stop it from harming Americans.

Sincerely,
