The end of the world is near--December 21, 2012, to be exact--according to theories based on a purported ancient Maya prediction and fanned by the marketing machine behind the soon-to-be-released 2012 movie.

I have to agree with all of the debunking except Myth 3, Galactic Alignment. The physical evidence clearly shows that we are experiencing unusual Earth events that could easily be explained by the crossing that will occur on December 21, 2012. Those events are volcanoes and earthquakes. There are currently more active volcanoes in the world than there have been in human recorded history. Earthquake activity shows even more evidence of something unusual happening. From 1950 through 1973 there were 10 major earthquakes in that 24 year period. Beginning in 1974 there occurred at least one major earthquake every year up until 1998. From 1998 through 2001 there were at least 5 every year. There were 13 in each of 2002, 2003 and 2004. There were 11 in 2005 and 10 in 2006. Earthquake activity took another big jump in 2007 with 18 major quakes. 2008 had 11 and thus far in 2009 there have been 15. The most reasonable explanation of this escalating earthquake activity is the increased gravitational forces from the super massive black hole at the center of our galaxy. Both Earth and we humans survived the last crossing that occurred around 26,000 years ago and there is no reason to believe that we and the Earth will not survive this crossing as well.

We can thank the Catholic Church for our limited understanding of what the Mayans had to say about the end of the current age. The Mayans had thousands of book that contain a bounty of information about the Mayan culture, society and their prophecies, but they were burned by the Catholic priest because a great deal of the information was a threat to their belief system.

Thannxxx this is always an interesting topic... the bible predicted all of these things.... like labour pains these things will come closer together before the great and coming day of the Lord.. seasons will change, stars wil begin to fall like ripe figs, there will be such things as never seen before... earthquakes, floods and all of those things which are beginning to increase...
