Encased in soil, this extraordinarily delicate face emerges into the sun for the first time in thousands of years. The wooden sarcophagus was unearthed by archaeologists at the necropolis of Qubbet el-Hawa in Aswan, Egypt.

That's great. Thanks for posting this.

(By the way, as a Brit I can't help noticing that this story was taken from the Daily Mail. An interesting story in the Mail?!? That's never happened before. What the hell's going on?)

It's eautifl and fascinating, but is it really ourz right to what amounts to grave robbing?

I'm thinking that it hasn't seen the light because it was not supposed to. I agree with Martha, even though it's
sanctioned by archeology, it's still a desecration.

Beautiful, and such a stunning setting! I'm thinking she wasn't just an ordinary person to have such a beautiful burial place.

Thanks Marty. I love Archaeology. I just saw another Queen the found in Egypt on Nat'l. Geo. Channel. What a beautiful wooded sarcophagus. I hope they Scan it and leave the body alone. I agree with Roger about finding something like this in The Mail. LOL..I went to England and the Mail is like our National Enquirer. I get The Independent News in my Hotmail.

For ancient egyptians it was death for you to be forgotten. your remains were supposed to be worshiped, offerings left, your name repeated. When that stopped, thats when you died. When we speak their names, we bring them back. in a way we worship them again

Great article. As for my simple take notes...the nose and mouth are too large for her to be classically Egyptian. This is the beauty and mystery of studying artifacts.
