A nearly forgotten camp, built right after Hitler took power, served as a place to develop new torture methods and train people who later ran camps all around Europe.

wow- kinda makes you wonder what kind of "business" George W, Bush's grandfather did with Hitler, doesn't it?

How Bush's grandfather helped Hitler's rise to power

So important not to forget WWII and yet many people now relegate it to 'ancient history' already.
When I was a child, there used to be war movies on TV regularly, Now you only see soaps about rich, spoiled teenagers and vampires. It wasn't so long ago and it created the Europe we know today so don't forget about the war! So many problems developed later on because of the war. Would Berlin have developed such a huge heroin addiction problem in the 70s if it hadn't been for the pernicious effect of living under the shadow of the wall?
Would the neverending Israel/Palestine conflict have ever started if it hadn't been for the war? Would the massacres of the Bosnian war ever have happened if Yugoslavia hadn't been unnaturally created in the aftermath of the war?
Don't think it is ancient history and irrelevant. It still has an impact on the world we live in today.

We are supposed to learn from history and improve, but instead there are those who outright deny history and others who stand by and let it happen again...

Sorry for the double [post but it wasn't registering...
"Would the never-ending Israel/Palestine conflict have ever started if it hadn't been for the war?"
Yes Catherine it started before and without any relationship to the war, it was just called something else...

Catherine G, and Caroline S., are on target.
Nyak, I expect that Bush's grandfather, along with Mr. Ford, and his idiot newsletter/paper that encouraged and helped Hitler in his anti-semitism, spreading the myth of an "International Jewish conspiracy," helped Hitler. It was, and too often still is, "business as usual," and the hell with any social fallout!
I am on chapter 2 of "A Small Town Near Auschwitz, Ordinary Nazis and the Holocaust," by Mary Fullbrook. She is a professional historian, out of Great Britain, and also tied to that town, Bedzin, by her mother's deep childhood connection to the woman who later became the wife of the county administrator of the area, during the Nazi occupation.

There were many so helped Jews and others and are often remembered in Israel. How sad that no one listened to the reports of concentration camps, torture and death although people even in the US were told about them. Even some Nazis weren't monsters although they were rare.
True, the issues between others in the Middle East and Jews started many-thousands even- years ago. As Tevye said in Fiddler on the Roof "maybe that's why we always keep our hats on".

That sounds like an interesting good Michel.

This is the power of evil people, but who made them do it, why the hate? Why the holocaust? People can only take so much under weak government and occupation instituted by Britain and France together with the their stogies. Losers and winners are both criminals, but the looser has to pay the prize.

Humanity should learn from history never to repeat the horror & death of so many innocent people, our brothers/sisters. When greed is a decease of the few in power, they care not about the rest of humanity! It is up to us to unite & stand as one for our survival! History should never be forgotten & the ugly wars they created, it is still happening today in different parts of the world. Thanks Marty.
