Good one, Scott. For one who's read Sitchen's complete volumes of the Earth Chronicles, The Torah and the Koran, this is not news or foreign information to me at all.

But for others who haven't yet read these books, they would do well to.There's much written in stone about our beginnings in our past which bode an important message for our future and contact with "those"( not him but them) who created us. Peace in Our Quest for Truth

Very interesting video! My daughter asked me recently whether I believed the Biblical beginning of mankind, or that we were descended from apes. I told her I believe there is a third and much more fascinating story that was the real truth. All over the world there are telltale signs of an advanced culture who, at the least, visited and profoundly impacted all we know. This does not seem like either science fiction or blasphemy to me; just a different vision of a loving creator who knew exactly what to do. Thanks for the post, Scott.

Amazing video. Am never surprised about the achievements and knowledge of ancient civilizations. So much we still don't know. My father who passed away in 1963 at the age of 75, was way ahead of his time. He always maintained that when mankind had advanced enough intellectually and scientifically, all would be revealed. He would have been fascinated by this post. Thanks so much! :)

I remember the enthusiasm of us in the 1960s who read "Worlds in Collision," by Velikovsky, and then von Danikan's "Chariot of the Gods," in the 1970s. Seems there are always the accounts of those outside the academy who construe explanations of planetary and human origins that are cobbled together with interpretations that do not hold up to expert examination. The Velikovkian-type stories are so pleasing and we so want to believe such exotic (literally) narratives that seem to explain it all. It's the "Raiders of the Lost Ark" movie version of graspable historical reality. We want to know that we know the (sensational) truth. It's more difficult to know we don't know (and takes more patience).

Thanks Scott. Saw a Phenomenon episode on this a number of years back and
always wanted some more info...so now will look for Sitchen material. Chariot Of The Gods by Von Danikan always made sense to me plus other books on the same subject. Any more info from you or anyone commenting here would be appreciated

Read some books of Velikovsky and von Danikan many years ago. Was not too impressed by von Danikan, but I was fascinated by some of Velikovsky's theories.

On the topic of books, my interest in the origins of the Christian religion led me to the books of Dr. Barbara Thiering, University of Australia. Her interpretation of the New Testament and the Book of Revelations based on a cipher found in the Dead Sea Scrolls is enlightening and fascinating. Two of her books are 'Jesus of the Apocalypse' and 'Jesus the Man' amongst others. These books are now out of print, but used books in good condition can still be obtained from 'Barnes & Noble'.

Probably one of the most investigative people that I know of is one Jonathon Gray who lives in New Zealand. He is not the type of person who reads what everyone else has to say and then sits down to write his own theory of what it is all about. He puts his life on the line and goes there to find the reality for himself.
He has accumulated a tremendous amount of information and by putting all the information together over many years of personal research, reasonably refutes much of the surmisings of others who make money out of plausible "stories" like von Daniken and many others.
One of the pertinent points that we need to consider is the actuallity of the Genesis story of the Creation of Adam and Eve, the fall into sin and the Great Flood of the time of Noah. Although Moses wrote these books some 2500 years after the time that it is recorded they happened, there are a number of verses in the Bible which authenticate the accuracy of the writing of the Scriptures. The first is found in 2 Timothy 3:16,17 where it states that ALL Scripture (in the Bible) is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
2 Peter 1: 20, 21. States quite emphatically, "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the Scriptures is of any private interpretation., For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
A third quotation to add to this is "Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples (examples from the past) and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come."
There is a vast amount of information written in the Bible which the average person will just skim over and miss the real meaning and then put 2 and 2 together to come up with 5. The extra bit is their theory and this is fairly rife throughout people and "religion". We are all just people but oft times we do not like what the straight Word has to say so we want to deflect the directness from us by having a "Theory". Much of the "reality" of things has been hidden away from us by these "theories" of "great" men. Often men who have seen the depravity of misquoted Biblical Scriptures, men like Charles Darwin, whose father was a minister and one day was propounding the fact that if little children were not baptised (christened)(not Biblical) and they died, they would have to spend time in the flames of Hades or Hell or whatever one wishes to call the place, and his father went on describing this smiling god who looked down on this scene with almost glee, knowing how these little ones would be purified by the fire before they would be able to enter heaven.
Well, I don't know about you, but I agree with Charles, he set out to prove that that horrendous god did not even exist. This horrific belief system is NOT biblical but satanic but it was being purported as being "Christianity". From my own study of the Biblical Scriptures, I find a vastly different God than is being portrayed by much of so called Christianity today.
For those who find "Christianity" as being somewhat way off the mark, I can see where you are coming from and why, just as Charles Darwin was turned off because of false doctrine. There are many who will have much to answer for their false presentations and misinformed and misguided interpretations of the Bible. Even I must be ready to give an answer for my beliefs so therefore I must study to be sure I also have it correct and not to put out some false self important interpretation.

Scott, perhaps you could summarize into one or two sentences your approximately 75 lines of text above, much of which appears to be random words and thoughts?

I would like to respond to your contention that academics (people attached to an institution of learning and involved in formal study of a field of learning) do not think "outside the box." You voice a "problem" with academics, i.e. those people described above, and say they know only what they have been told. To the contrary, academic researchers MUST question received wisdom, or they would not BE an accomplished academic. This is what academics do: they question received learning, think about it, research it, and write about it. This is how they personally advance in their field, not by not questioning. Questioning is heart of academic study.
As a collective effort, learning advances due to their questioning. Think of practically EVERY advancement in learning: it was accomplished by an academic, most of whom were involved in formal study at an academic institution.

Your analogy of "the box" is useful here: academics are involved in thinking about the Box: inside, outside, and all around. THE BOX IS WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT! That IS academics (as in formal study). They must particularly think about how new data fit in the context of the Box. The Box then is continuously modified. The boundary of the box shifts according to their advancements.

Then there is the matter of competing theories, models, explanations, and approaches within any one academic field. Academics (the people) nearly come to blows over these ideational disputes. They fight over THE BOX! The Box--its validity, its constitution, its boundaries, how new data and learning modify it--is the focus of academic learning. Your saying that academics "do not think outside the box" is in essence the opposite of academic endeavor. Again, think of every advancement in learning: academics had to consider the Box and whether the Box needed to be modified (or even thrown out for a new one).

I appreciate your posting so much I disagree with. It is highly stimulating to read that academics know only what they have been told, when I read every day academic articles written by people who are disagreeing with each other and trying to change the Box. This is happening vociferously in every academic field. If there were no contention, no arguing about the Box, that academic field would be dead.

It might be a problem for someone to look only outside the Box without understanding what is inside the Box and without the knowledge of those who are studying the Box inside and out. Those people are academics. What's the problem?
