A new study published last month in Nature Journalsuggests that humans are naturally good. This study adds to the mounting evidence against the popular misconception that corruption is a trait of human nature.

It would be nice to believe that. Wonder if the media is the cause of much of the violence?

my, personal, but carefully worked-out (over decaces) opinion is that ~99% of corruption and (destructive) violence (as distinct from and opposed to mere aggression) are the product of this, our, predominantely the white mens cult(ure) and $y$tem

"Many people today..prefer to believe that our drift towards violence and nuclear war is due to biological factors beyond our control, rather than to open their eyes and see that it is due to social, political, and economic circumstances of our own making." -- Erich Fromm - "The Anatomy of Human Destructiveness" 1973

> the popular misconception...
has quite obvious beneficiaries and sources

We live in a culture that, from the moment that they are born, men are indoctrinated to see gentleness and sensitivity as somehow "other" and "weak." Though all human beings carry in their hard-wiring the ability to care and to be kind, to love and to nurture, and to explore their world with gentleness and sensitivity, men who do so are typically humiliated, ostracized, even violently suppressed. We are told that these values are feminine and that expressing them makes us if, first of all, there was something horribly wrong with being feminine. Yet, our patriarchal civilization does make war on the feminine: look how badly women are treated all around the world. Is it any surprise then that men who express similar qualities are likewise subjected to abuse? Nonetheless, these qualities of compassion and gentleness when we express them do not make us feminine or masculine: Living gently and cooperatively with others makes us HUMAN.

We have got to stop the indoctrination of hate and hardness and war into our children. Little boys and little girls should be encouraged to treat each other gently, to feel their feelings deeply, and to act with lovingkindness throughout their lives.

Without this kind of fundamental generational shift in our global civilization, our species will not survive.
