The perfect way to bring the totalitarian neo cons and nanny government proponents, a.k.a. our present government, to their unconstitutional knees! This is great and goes right to their darkest power, the power to hit print!

The government is handing out 152 billion in tax rebates right? Well all we have to do is take that tax rebate money and buy GOLD! That's right, now just let that smile spread across your face, ya just keep thinking about that . . ;) 152 billion fake dollars turned into GOLD held by the American People. They're Done!!!

Archimedes along with the rest of the world will take notice and insist that the American Government follow the lead of the American people. The world insisting, "Why we should we accept your fake, borrowed against, deficit spent paper money when even your own people have placed a "Golden Vote" of no confidence in the U.S. government's financial policies?"

(A) The government will be forced to shut down the printing presses!
(B) No more deficit spending!
(C) The government will be forced to obey the constitution concerning money based on Gold and Silver!

With our government sponsoring unconstitutional wars with fake unconstitutional paper money and running deficits that make us all debtors this one simple act and stroke of financial security and rebellion against the financial fraud of our present government will do more to empower, secure and accomplish our collective goals than any other idea or action!

By taking their fake paper money and turning it into Gold we the People of the United States will be able to wield and enforce the Golden Rule, which is, "Those with the Gold, Rule!" And the Power and the Gold will be back in the hands of the American People where it belongs!

Michael, I'm glad you submitted this. I had received it by email as well, but I was left with many questions, such as: "When needed, what do you redeem the gold for when you sell it?"

I'll be interested in the feedback on this subject.

Good question C, I would feel safer with the Gold until THEY stop printing paper money that THEY cannot back up. I am tring to figure out where can I go buy this gold??

I actually have a one dollar siver certificate. It used to be that you could go to the bank and trade it for a dollars worth of silver. Well, for that matter, years ago you could do the same with gold BUT the powers that be have changed that. Another one of those IT IS ILLEGAL things.

Well, the article author, Gary Franchi, has asked for recommendations for where to buy gold; and I was pleased to see a great deal of positive feedback and suggestions.

Unfortunately, though, it looks like, since this country's trade is based on "legal tender," unless that currency is altered to be "either paper or gold/silver", on the "sell" side, you're still stuck with trading your gold for worthless paper.

Who knows though? If the idea catches on enough, vendors may be induced to start accepting gold.

I've thought about this also. And a while back I bought just a little gold. The value was right at a $1,000. per troy oz. Now since the Feds lowered the interest rate gold is down to approx. $855. a troy oz.

But too I have a question, if the economy collapses and paper money is no good, what good is gold....you can't eat. Of course land is a lot higher than gold, but if a person had a few acres at least he could raise something to eat. Silver is also down. Having said this, I had still rather have gold than worthless paper. Thanks for good post Michael

Just an idle thought.

Animals did just fine for thousands of years without gold/paper money.
Now animals are not fine because we have the gold, the money......

Animals obviously retained common sense where as man ditched it all for the Industrial Revolution and a cell phone.......

PLANT TREES FOR LIFE.......FOR SURVIVAL.......

very interesting subject. That is something to look at. I almost flipped when I found out what gold in made from. I can not believe anyone would use it on their teeth, or put it in their mouth. I am really curious how many people know what gold is, and what it comes from. Not where you can find it, that was really simple after I found out what it was.

Not a bad idea Michael. However, gold is just another commodity, and its value or cost fluctuates to the process of "supply and demand", just like many other commodities. Demand for gold will go up, which means the supply would need to increase to meet the demand..., and that always brings the value or cost down. But then..., it would decrease the demand for paper currency, which means supply would need to decrease..., and that usually brings the value or cost up..., ceteris paribus.

So in my opinion, we would lose value in our gold, but paper currency would increase in value..., ceteris paribus.
And..., your right Michael it would decrease the demand for currency or paper money.., but we still lose the value in the gold. I think this process is one of the few things that stuck with me from yearsss, ago in Econ..lol.

This does not make any sense to me. Perhaps, someone can better explain this to me? Money is a form of paper given a value to it by humans. Gold is a form of rock given a value to it also by humans. Like money, the value of gold can also be manipulated. Sooner or later, it's back to square one. Can someone tell me what am I missing here? I'm not very good financial topics so I hope you can bear with me... Thanks.

Unfortunately most are going to need that cash immediately to keep from going belly up! I am serious as a heart attack on that one. Its a great idea, so worthy or noting and debate and I for one want to follow it but I for one cant see how in the world it can work with so many needing every dollar they will get immediately....any thoughts?

Yes Nick, paper is just that, its paper. Gold is the real currency and he who hold it holds the wealth. The point is taking some of that back for the people.

True Dar but Gold is still worth more than paper currency, as is silver.

US Federal Reserve and European Central Bank pump an extra $82bn into banking system

Which means that the money already in your pocket is being devalued in order to prop up the bank.
It is really that simple, real worth is being taken from your pocket and handed to the banks.

For now, gold may worth more than paper currency, as it is with silver and diamonds. But when everyone possesses gold, the value of gold or silver or diamonds will drop to the value of paper currency again. Just like it is with any ordinary stone which anyone can possess at anytime. There's no real value on a piece of rock because it's available everywhere and it's not so attractive. Gold, silver, diamonds can become just like any other rock if it is easily possessed by anyone. So, the currency and value will go back to the same whether you use paper, gold, silver, diamonds or any piece of rock in the near future. Elements are used only as a symbol. Nothing has real value. Value is only an illusion of the mind. I still don't see how this can change anything. People use to use gold in those days but it was too difficult and heavy to carry it around and so they started using paper. I still don't understand how this is going to change anything, especially in the long run...

If there would be a demand for this much gold the price would rise skyhigh!
Why did the price go to 1000 dollar because of the demand add this demand what will you see prices high above 2000 dollar....The demand in Chindia will also increase... maybe buying a farm would be a better sollution? And living life the easy way..without all the stuff that you dont need!

My Uncle Ned was in Germany at the end of the war. The paper money was useless. He did tell me that a loaf of bread, a candy bar or food could get you ANYTHING. I am sure he was not lying to me. However, for some reason, gold, jewels, works of art could be used instead of paper money. This has always been true. I have always asked myself why? What is this fasination with gold, silver, jewels and other precious metals? Why are people willing to die for these items? It has already been said that we cannot eat it. Now it appears that oil is going to the top of this list. ENERGY appears to be the "want to have item" because you CAN use it, too heat, cool, cook, make things and travel. And we all know that oil has peaked, we ARE running out. That is the REAL reason we are at war. The last oil reserves are over there. I guess I'd better not get off topic here but, I think that it needs to be mentioned. I was raised on a farm and the top of these mountains, I am a country feller and I can survive. What about all who have been born and raised in the cities? They depend on the farmers, the energy. I will say that I also like the energy. What will life be like without oil? Precious metals and jewels will not feed you. I think it is time to face this fact. Get out of the cities if you can, start to learn how to live without oil or, we better find new sources of energy very quickly... Maybe I had better start looking at horse's again???

I already collect gold having been alarmed by various articles over the years about the U.S. Economy, The Federal Reserve, and the good ole IRS.
I believe in the power of the element, these others I don't have too much faith in anymore.

Gold, silver, paper, are merely, as was stated above, SYMBOLS, with NO intrinsic value that "belongs" to them; only what we ARBITRARILY ASSIGN.

In other cultures, on Pacific islands, they DID value certain ROCKS, as we'd call them, as mediums of prestige and exchange; because those cultures had no gold, silver, or paper to use for the purpose. Certain SHELLS, too.
Wanta stock up on cowries or dentalium shells???
FURS have been used as currency, too -- especially sea-otter pelts. Not an attractive option for most Care2 members.

In the 20th and 21st century, MOST MONEY IS ELECTRONIC BLIPS ON A SCREEN.
Even LESS "substantial" than paper money. Let alone gold or silver or diamonds. Or rocks or shells.
That's right. Money is transferred BY SYMBOLIC BLIPS ON A COMPUTER SCREEN. It is NOT a "thing". Nothing at all MATERIAL changes hands.
Hoarding gold is very Medieval thinking.

In Europe after WWII, where relatives of mine served in the Army, CHOCOLATE BARS, NYLON STOCKINGS, AND AMERICAN CIGARETTES WERE CURRENCY. American soldiers could buy ANYthing they wanted, with these items. Also American Army rations issued to soldiers, could be exchanged and used as currency. People in Europe were STARVING.
They would exchange family heirlooms, for "worthless, cheap" cigarettes and 10-cent candy bars.
{Cigarettes being portable like money; and providing the only brief form of "comfort" available for most people.}
{And nylon stockings, according to the standards of the time, were supposed to make a woman sexually irresistable -- an asset when a woman needed to provide food for her family.}

During the Crash that's coming here, what will be the valuable thing to have? I don't see how it would be gold. You can't EAT gold. Probably organic vegetables. Maybe marijuana. Things like THAT would be valuable as currency. Maybe cat meat or rat meat or dog meat. Guard your gardens and your pets! when the Crash comes.

Also, please don't go overboard on "plans" that require EVERYBODY to do something. You will NEVER REACH "everybody". I doubt that 1 percent of people will actually use their tax "refund" to buy gold. Far LESS than 1 percent. I doubt that as many as 1 percent will even HEAR about this "grand scheme".

It is no "answer" to anything if it is by its very nature, IMPOSSIBLE.
I see this kind of "thinking" and "solutions" on Care2 all the time.
You will have to do BETTER than that.

Moving to the country will perhaps work as an INDIVIDUAL solution, for some.
It won't work for all of society, however.
For one thing, there isn't that much arable unoccupied land left.

I'm afraid there IS no solution, for the mess we have painted our way into {our mis-leaders have painted us into}.
There will be death and suffering and humans will survive or they won't. Not an optimistic forecast.
The Earth will go on with or without us. Evolution will just take a different turn, after the Great Extinctions we have been responsible for.

Gold is useful for bribing officials. Gold is useful for fleeing the country. Gold in large quantities is useful for buying land, weapons, maybe your own private army. {You'll need it!}
But if every citizen has their private little pile of gold, and NObody has any food -- or clean water, just SEE how useful that stash of metal or jewelry will be!!!

Secret stashes of hoarded gold and diamonds -- not paper currency -- have been historically how refugees have managed to flee, get papers and passports and visas all signed and stamped properly, crossed thru armed and hostile borders, etc.
Gold is more UNIVERSAL than the currency of one country or another; currency that may not be recognized, or lose ALL its value. {Like Confederate U.S. dollars.}

What if THERE IS NOWHERE ELSE TO GO??????

Food can always be traded for other things, so farmers survived the depression, as did farmers in Germany after WWII. Fruit trees grow free food year after year, but seed crops require saving seed, which is hard if you are starving.

Gold and silver work if you have enough of it. They cannot keep creating gold out of thin air, like they do US fiat dollars. I am amazed at how long the fiat dollars have been propped up and not lost all value... just by propoganda and trading them for oil. Now many countries are switching to Euros and getting rid of dollars.

Where will Bush and CO hide when the dollar collapses in value? What will the master plan be then? Where will they get enough money to pay for more war? They already confiscated all gold and silver... What will be next; all our homes? Oh yeah, they are doing that right now.. duh...

Speaking honestly?

I am saddened that we are groping for ways to work around the government we pay for, and who are supposed to be serving us.

How many Americans have forgotten that this government is NOT our master . . . but is our servant?

Buy land and start growing your own stuff!
Not only in the USA! Why not buy cheap land in south america many farmers in western Europe have bought cheap land in eastern Europe..and have moved...
I think that not only victory gardens but country life will see a revivial!
Its better to know what you eat...and i agree that the green back will be worthless very soon!

On a spiritual level, what is happening right now is that old things that do not work any more are becoming MORE obvious and painful. Dependance on oil is one of those things.. The faster we choose to move away from the pain, the better it will be for all of us. On a spiritual level, the faster we move away from hating and violence, the better.

Things that do work sustainably are appearing and feeling good, joyful and easy.
