Bit by bit, in ingenious experiments, researchers have documented these talents in other species, gradually chipping away at what we thought made human beings distinctive while offering a glimpse of where our own abilities came from.

"Bit by bit, in ingenious experiments, researchers have documented these talents in other species, gradually chipping away at what we thought made human beings distinctive while offering a glimpse of where our own abilities came from."

Translation:

"Humans are finally beginning to evolve and leave the stupor of arrogant ignorance wherein they inflate their own uniqueness as an excuse to abuse and exploit every other life form."

Thank you, Roo. You have said exactly I have been saying for years- by objectifying animals it gives mankind an excuse to hurt and exploit animals. When this is 'discovered' by the scientific world they say it like we never thought of that until they said it. DUH!! Welcome to MY world! (or should I say our world?) :-)

Nasale - I'm with you on that and realized this when I was a teen and before I ever became a social scientist!

Roseann - Exactly, you said it a bit more directly than I...LOL
