Illinois has a history of corruption dating to the days of Al Capone, but Blagojevich is the second consecutive governor of the state convicted of wrongdoing while in office. Corruption is a rite of passage in the state and political parties know no boundaries: Blagojevich is a Democrat and Ryan is a Republican. Ryan is the only Republican of four governors in the state to go to jail. The two other governors to find themselves behind bars are Democrats: Dan Walker and Otto Verner Jr. In sports they say "if you aren't cheating you aren't trying." In Illinois politics the saying is, "If you aren't on the take, you must not be governor."

My sister knew Blago when he was the ad salesman for Dick Mell's (his father-in-law) local newspaper. She described him as a s**t disturber, an arrogant, talentless hack and the worst kind of opportunist. But why this four year old article is here is anybody's guess...

Blago is in jail but didn't get enough time! As for Deborah W, there's NOT a damn thing wrong with Chicago! Obama wasn't born here, and all states have crooked politicions; they just haven't been caught yet!

Obama Deborah? Hell of a lot better than Reagan or either Bush, despite the fact that he's a fricken conservative. Right of Eisenhower for sure, and has continued far too many of Bush's policies, but better than anything the Republicans have to offer.
As to Blago, he did a lot of good things, despite being an arrogant jerk, and was nowhere near as corrupt as Jim Thompson, but his arrogance got him in trouble with Michael Madigan and that's not something you do in Illinois if you wish to survive. What he did was tacky, but if you investigated thoroughly I'm certain you would find that every governor in America has done similar or worse things. He was just too dumb to go along to get along.
Look at what Republican governors around the country are doing and tell me that what Blago did was as bad as that?
BTW, I didn't vote for him, I voted for the Republican, Judy Baar Topinka, one of a nearly vanished breed of honorable Republicans left in the USA.
