Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor said it was "scandalous" that the report "completely ignored the detention of an Israeli hostage under absolute isolation for three years, and in breach of every elementary human right."

I am sorry that the Red Cross did their usual thing and ignored Shalit and the other prisoners that have been held since the early 80s but I am glad that, finally, someone has noticed that Israel also suffers.

The major problem in Gaza is Hamas. I am waiting for all the Israel attackers to say how sad everything is for the Palestinians, and I agree. They are suffering because of HAMAS who uses them as human shields and making it difficult for the people to receive treatment. The fact that Hamas refuses to acknowledge the right of Israel to exist and will not negotiate is not helping.

On the West Bank the Palestinians are frightened that they will be given home rule as Hezbollah will do to them what Hamas are currently doing to Gaza.

Jackie, Israelis treasure life, they don't shoot each other in case of political disagreements and don't blow up sinagogues of different affiliations. This treasuring life makes them feel sorry for the captuve solder. This, plus Hamas bombing of Israel lead to blockade. Poor Gazans, life under Hamas is likely not what they expected.

World best paid Palestinian refugees whine much more than Israelis, including Jewish refugees from Arab countires. Homes of the Jewish refugees were stolen and sold long time ago, it was disgraceful too.

I have never ever read a message of sympathy for Shalit from any of these so-called " human rights " supporters. You are spot on, Cal. They are so biased that they lose any credibility. They expect the Israelis to act like saints whereas the Palestians can do what the heck they want. This isn't the way international relations work.
I've just read on another thread some nonsense about the genocide against the Palestinians continuing. Which genocide are these people referring to? I haven't heard of any Palestinians murdered by Israelis. For that matter I haven't heard of any Palestinians dying of starvation either.
If all the U.S.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ had been spent on buliding the infrastructure required by a modern state instead of being stolen or spent on weapons, the Palestinians could be enjoying a standard of living similar to the Israelis.

From Israeli human rights group B'Tselem-
B’Tselem today (25.06.09) repeats its demand that Hamas release Gilad Shalit immediately. The circumstances of Shalit’s capture three years ago and the behavior of his captors clearly indicate that he is legally a hostage. Hostage taking is absolutely prohibited under international humanitarian law, and is defined as a grave breach of the Geneva Convention.
The leadership of Hamas is obligated to release Shalit immediately and unconditionally. Until he is released, those holding him must grant him humane treatment, allow him to be in contact with his family and allow representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross to visit him.
The denial of Shalit's right to these visits constitutes a blatant violation of international law, and casts doubt over claims that Shalit’s wellbeing has been maintained.
