General Motors on Friday prepared to exit bankruptcy with the message that a leaner and meaner automaker ready to win back American consumers and pay back taxpayers has emerged from its failure.

I am really happy to hear this news. Now we are going to see a change GM which will not only regain its lost glory but also set an example for others.

This is just one more farce played out for the American suckers. GM closed only - ONLY American plants, and by declaring that bankruptcy were able to relieve themselves of the one thing that should have been protected no matter what - workers pensions. During the last few months every company and bank that played the dangerous and foolish games of over extension and outright malfeasance with public money has been given billions of taxpayer billions to save them with no corruption charges filed against them. Mean while, where are the jobs to rebuild the infrastructure, to built the new "green" economy, the special loans to save people from foreclosure? When the government spends everything saving the few at the top, and ignores the many at the bottom (and in the middle) we all end up sucking air, and watching our future disappear in cloud of banking and corporate promises. Food banks are at a high need of food, but there is no food coming in, people are living in tents, and because they are moved out of public site doesn't mean they aren't real people - really suffering.

I have purchased GM products since I have bought cars, but no longer. This was, like all the rest of it, a scam and it is nurtured by Washington DC.

Personally, I think after they have taken their bail out etc...all of their pensions, gifts, salaries, they have no choice but to change...But, is it really a change?

I seriously doubt it...Used to purchase GM Cars, have an old Ford which unfortunately is a gas problem - don't drive, use mass transit. Wish we had a system like they have in France, or San Francisco. San Diego is getting there, but we are not there yet. The only way we can stop all of this Oil problem, car problem, environment problem is to do what some other countries have done. I think the American Public may soon be there, one can only hope and pray.

In my opinion, to many companies have been bailed out, the taxes are higher and the governor of California want's to close it's precious parks...what next??? The United States needs to take action for the environment, animals, get rid of bailing out big corporations at a tax payer expense...(especially when I hear they still have glorious vacations at SPAS, what's with that??) I'm personally fed up.

I agree with Kit, just another part of the scam.
I took my money out of Wells Fargo and Bank of America, I cut up my credit cards and now I am ditching GM. Enough already these people are pushing for a revolution..

GM is done. Yeah they will come back - for a while - but they will not be able to compete long term in a global marketplace with the structure the Obama administration has installed.
Also this bankruptcy was a farce that will have far reaching negative consequences. Since the secured creditors were "bumped" out of line, this will hamper future business financing which is the lifeblood of economic growth because a secured credit investment just got much riskier.
Not to mention of course the company should have filed and reorganized last year before burning through billions more of taxpayer money.
I have a GM car in the driveway. My last one.
