A majority of Americans support changes to U.S. energy policy and a greenhouse gas cap-and-trade program to address climate change, in addition to standing behind federal requirements for businesses and industries to conserve energy,

I suggest that anyone believing the headline of this post go to the actual poll and look at the results. The support isn't nearly as strong as the headline makes it sound.

U.S. Temperatures Since 1900: Of Five Cool/Warm Periods, Climate Models Can Only Match One

IPCC climate models output only consistent with single time period over last 108 years. Climate models sole reliance on CO2 as primary cause of warming leads to results that are worse than ballpark guesstimates.

That is a blantant LIE!
A majority of American want something..ANYthing done about energy crisis and our dependence on foreign oil.
But not this bill.
In Obama's own words this bill raise our energy bills.According to the CBO it will raise the cost to the average American almost 10 fold!
Why in god's name would our government do such a thing to it's citizens. We have NOT recovered from the Wall Street bust this past year, and WON'T be for a long time. Then the Healthcare bill that will further drive up the costs to the average Americans.
I mean seriously when will this end.
When will we say STOP!

I will telll you when...2010!

Depends which poll you want to believe. The one in this article is from Washington Post-ABC poll. I would expect their poll to show the support.

Look at this one.

BAD news: If you look at the bottom of the article, "additional energy-related results of the survey," you will find that support for more coal mining, nuclear plants, and coal-burning plants were each found to be above 50%. :(

GREAT news: Did did you notice what had the MOST support of all? 91% support the development of more solar and wind power. VERY COOL. That's the statistic worth sharing with your legislators. Something we (nearly) all agree on and with great potential for us economically, for our health, and for our long-term survival.

Do not underestimate what the majority of awakened people can do, and yes the people demand a strong climate bill and will have one , or not. Thx Cal

Any valid poll will show that the majority of Americans do not want this bill - especially when thay are told what is actually in it. Of course the House knew this. They were coerced to vote for it even though their constituents did not want it and now they fear they will pay the price a year from now. That's why they ran and hid when the heath care bill came up.
In any case of you believe that this bill will have any measurable impact on the climate, you are delusional. It will however have a negative impact on the economy.
Frankly I hope this bill either dies a painful death in the senate or at worst gets watered down to the point that it is as meaningless to the economy as it is to the climate.

Well, I think you lost most of the northern half of the USA since we really did not have a summer and we are really not worried about "global warming" any more, if we ever were. The price of heating fuel is much more important!
