Hamas Bails Out Gaza's Losing Tunnel Investors

Palestinian Islamists who run the Gaza Strip find themselves in the odd position these days of bailing out speculators who went from boom to bust when Israeli warplanes blew up their smuggling tunnels into Egypt.

It is correct that Hamas should do this. There is not other way to bring vital supplies into Gaza. Israel and Egypt has effectively sealed all of the legal borders. Thank you Cal. I do wish you would start your news someday without a distressing article.

This is unbelievable, in this day and age right on the 21st century and heading for 22nd an entire population is being systematically exterminated. How much is Israel gonna starve the poor and defenseless Palestinian people? Why is the entire world standing on the sidelines while Israeli warplanes shamelessly bombard refugee camps and schools and tents?
The only way for the food to get to the Gaza strip is smuggling and YES those so called illegal tunnels were the only way to get food and medication to the most populous area on earth, think about the kids, your kids, what would you do to feed them and cloth them and medicate them? Would you not dig a tunnel with your own fingers and nails?
Why does food have to be smuggled? Medication and winter clothing are necessities. Israel needs to wake up and smell the coffee because the world is catching up on their lies and deceitful actions.

Delivering food and medicine to Gaza was NEVER an issues - every day hundreds of trucks make if from Israel to Gaza.

Israel has a full right to blow these tunnels through which all sorts of rockets and ammunition are transferred to Hamas, whose open goal is to destroy Israel.

THANK YOU ISRAEL FOR THE JOB WELL DONE!!!

Israel has a right to defent her borders just as any other country has... and if people want to use these places as an opening for violence they need to be closed down... no matter what ... life is precious on both sides of the borders and we do not want anymore bloodshed, neither do they.

Thanks Chaz, I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments and of course Israel, the same as any state has the right to protect her borders.
I am at best, a lousy mathematician and I would welcome anyone’s help in getting me to understand this.
“Economy Minister Zeyad al-Zaza estimates some $60 million was lost by thousands among Gaza's 1.5 million population”.
In short 60 million lost by thousands, I know the final figure of how much the average investment was is dependent on how many thousands invested but I would not have expected that sort of money would be available to ordinary Gazans.
It also puzzles me as to what the actual investment represented. Was it a percentage commission on the products brought in, was it an investment used to pay the tunnelers for their work or what?? Regardless it shows Hamas has no scruples when it comes to running a scam against their own, although in their defence they are trying to return some of the money. (To restore confidence in investors for the next round of tunnel digging??)
Another puzzle to me is “Economy minister Zaza, a member of the unrecognized Hamas government” Did I misinterpret something. Was not Hamas voted in as the government in Gaza at the last elections there?? Or does unrecognised mean not recognised by the western world?

Are you medicated or something??? What trucks are getting to Gaza??? From where?
What part do you don't get? THE BORDERS ARE FULLY SHUT ON BOTH ISRAELI AND EGYPTIAN SIDE...
Plus remember that Israel had built the GREAT WALL surrounding the entire strip claiming that it was for protecting Israel, Sounds like the Communists mentality is still alive and well from the Berlin Wall to the Gaza wall, right...
By the way Mr.Mathematician, you need to learn more abut Gaza that you seem to hate so much...Gaza is the most populous spot on earth with a population exceeding 1million...
There is a huge humanitarian crisis is Gaza as we speak, no medication, no food, hospitals so overwhelmed, etc...
Although the solution is very simple Gaza at this point should be part of Israel, the people out there are so beat up that they will be so happy to be part of a stable country where their votes will count at last + they will be able to put food on their tables...Israel needs to go in Gaza catch the so called terrorists and annex the strip as part of Israel and end the occupation and suffering, now how simple is that?
Arabs and Jews are the same people, they are of Semitic decent and they need to cut the BS and work together side by side...
I was told by Arabs from the Gaza strip that they look highly at Israel and like it, the minority that's are against peace just need to be locked-up...

Aden, every day HUNDREDS OF TRUCKS WITH HUMANITARIAN AID come from Israel into Gaza. The borders are not fully shut, don't repeat somebody's lies. There is no humanitarian crisis, there is enough food and medicine, but of course there is lots of inconveniences for regular Gazans, due to the fact that Hamas and Israel are at war.

Though Jews and Arabs both are of Semitic decent, Islamists have a rule that lands ones governed by Islam must remain under Islam, so common decent does not mean much to Islamists. Considering that Gaza population moves to further right in its religion - I wouldn't believe those "Arabs from the Gaza strip" that they "look highly at Israel and like it". The majority in Gaza elected militant Hamas to power. People who try ty stand to Hamas are shot at their legs or just beaten. I never heard of any protests by Gazans or Arab apologists against Hamas firing rockets into Israeli civilian centers.

Gazans democratically elected Hamas. Hamas didn't hide its intention to war with Israel, started that war and lost it. Israel prevents Hamas from re-arming, makes perfect sense.

Untrue Wild Cat, Hundreds of Trucks?? The article itself says that Israel is enforcing and embargo, embargo means nothing goes in nothing goes out and do you know what the worst part is? Israeli Defense Force need to be changed into Israeli Destroy Force as Moshe D. had said, IDFs keep shooting at defenseless people trying to carry injured and sick outside of the Walled Gaza strip...Keep in mind that Israel warplanes shot at everything under the fake pretext of "Tunnels"...
And by the way you gotta be really outta your mind Wild Cat because the so called rockets are nothing but for show, they are like fireworks dude...
Israel does not represent the Jews nor the Judaic faith + here is another fact 25% of Israelis are Arabs and 20% of Israelis are Muslims for that matter...So please don't use terms like Islamists because you sound like you wanna take the faith train and start BS'ing...
As sad as it might sound dude but those Gazans love Israel more than their own corrupt people; and, there is no way for anyone to carry out a protest in favor of Israel because Israel will squash it and send its IDFs to shoot them all...And then what apologists? Apollo worshipers? what are you talking about???? Why would anyone from Gaza apologize??? I can't really figure you out Wild Kitty, the Gazans that like Israel because they think it's a country that's good to its people, those Gazans need to be called apologists??? Dude it was the Nazis (again I say Nazis not Germans...U dig, right?) that committed crimes not the Gazans + that was well over 1/2century ago...
The Gazans are being systematically exterminated by the IDF war machine PLUS they need to apologize?
THE PEOPLE OF THE MIDDLE EAST NEED PEACE, NOT APOLOGIES, NOT WEAPONS, NOTHING MORE THAN PEACE...THE SAD PART IS THAT AS MUCH AS PEOPLE AGREE ON BOTH SIDES OF THE SPECTRUM THAT THEY NEED PEACE & NOTHING ELSE BUT PEACE, BOTH THEIR GOVERNMENT DISAGREE AND LIE JUST TO KEEP THE WAR-MACHINE ROLLING....Mark my words Kitty one day you'll see the entire pic ;)

It is true, Aden B. , Hundreds of Trucks with Humanitarian Aid from Israel into Gaza - despite the blockade, That blockade is selective: food - yes, medicine - OK, ammunition - NO. Understand? Israelis are smart enough NOT to make crisis in Gaza, but punish terrorists. Hamas without rockets will be much more peaceful, don't you see?

Aden, rockets shot by Hamas can fly several miles, they already destroyed houses and factories in Israel and killed a number of people. Describing them as fireworks is a LIE.

Islamists mean people who want to establish World Islamic Califat and Islamic order in countries they live by violent means. That makes Islamists different from moderate peace-loving Muslims.

Israel represents Israeli citizen - Muslims incluing. Did you know, dude, that majority of Israeli Arabs vote for Zionist parties? Still, there Arab MKs in Israel travelling the World on Israeli tax-payer money and cursing Israel? One Arab party MK spied for Hezbolla during the last war, almost got caught, left to stays with Hezbolla in Lebanon and still gets Israeli pension.

Arab apologists are those, like you, who describe Rocket attacks as fireworks and preventing Hamas from re-arming a blockade. They are not upset when suicide bomber blows up disco full of teens, but voice a protest when tunnels are blown. I don't know if they serve Appolo, I would rather expect Mammon, Hamas, Hezbola, etc.

And what is wrong with a Califat again?? Check out the Jewish Encyclopedia pappy. Jew were the safest under Califat rulers and some of Jews reached as far as Viziers (Prime Ministers), Advisers, etc...
http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/view.jsp?artid=1494&letter=A
I think that if some people of a certain country wanna rule their country in their birth-suit and enforce that all by respecting individuals and their own choices PLUS as long as the majority votes and wants birth-suit idealism, LET THEM BE...If they bother you and come to your home and force you to take your cloths off them you have the right to have a problem with them...
Now based on my Birth-Suit theory in general and how the Jews were treated according to the link from the WWW.JEWISHENCYCLOPEDIA.COM in particular, why/how does a Muslim Califat bother you, me or any Jew for that matter??
Bottom Line Kitty, collective Punishment is wrong the Jew Suffered from it at the hands of the Nazis and Israel that is mainly made out Jews should know better than opting for a Genocide against the defenseless Gazans. Hamas is the problem is what Israel claims and Jews are the problem what the Nazis claimed, well the Nazis ended up getting their @$$ burnt but they committed heinous crimes against humanity, now is that what Israel wants to do? Gazan Genocide?
Now that was a nice eye opening fact you gave there, that Israeli-Arabs vote for Zionist parties that typically are on the conservative side of the political spectrum; but, here is what I am asking you: Does that in itself not make my point even stronger, the one where I claimed that ordinary Gazan or at least the ones that family members weren't mistakenly killed by IDF tend to be more pro Israel than Hamas...
ISRAEL NEEDS TO ANNEX THE GAZA STRIP, THE PEOPLE OF GAZA DESERVE STABILITY AND THEIR ANNEXATION WILL FURTHERMORE STABLE ISRAEL, THE NEW ISRAELIS OF THE GAZA STRIP WILL MAKE ISRAEL EVEN STRONGER.

It's obvious to some here they know very little about what goes on in Gaza or the West bank for that matter. If there wasn't an embargo there would be no need for tunnels. There has been an embargo for years. People in Gaza are starving. They are in desperate need of medical supplies. They still will not even let in building materials so they can rebuild everything Israel destroyed. Seems a few here have not read the The UN Mission 575 Page Report on Gaza http://tinyurl.com/ygykcca Nor do you know anything about the history.

Thanx Elsie...The mass media doesn't report what's happening out there at all...
Told you guys, we all like to stick with our race, people, religion, etc...Human nature is simple, keep to the ones you can identify with and you'll be fine; well, the people of Gaza so beat-up that they are going against human nature, they are not looking at the Arab nations as their peeps, they are actually looking at Israel and Arab Israelis as their only hope and people...
Israel is the only democracy in the middle east and yet they managed to show beginning signs of corruption but again for the beaten, dying, starving, etc...people of Gaza Israel is paradise...
People reach out to each other, politicians are using us like moppets then throwing us under the bus as soon they are done with us...Don't get me wrong, I am not for anarchy; I am for prosecuting politicians to the fullest extent of law PLUS I want everybody to raise above what the Mass Media's make believe stories.
As the opening statement of the US constitution say:"We the people..." and I think that people of earth need to reach out and learn more about each other in order to beat the media/politician's goal of pinning people against each other...How great would it have been if every president or king would've had to fight his own war himself and only himself instead of throwing innocent kids and the prime of his own people in the fire head first...
Now, I really wanna thank you Cal for this great article because if it tells anything it just tells the story of how some people from within the Gaza strip itself are taking advantage of the embargo to capitalize and profit from their own flesh & blood.
Seemingly those very same people are taking advantage of the fact that Israel is willing to blow-up anything or anywhere a rockets gets launched from so their technique is to launch some of those stupid fireworks from within heavily populated neighborhoods then run away and wait for the Israeli response so they can call the news agencies and capitalize on the news scoop too...
It's all a joke people, politicians on both sides of the spectrum are just pure profiteers & we the people have the pay for that outta our taxes, time, health and the unlucky ones with their lives too...
Opt to learn more languages, know more people, learn about your religion and theirs, your customs and theirs, listen to your mass media and theirs, you don't need to be part of anything but keep in mind that no matter what you are part of the human race and as a human you need to have a decent level of intellect so you can thing for yourself...

Aden, may be you want to be treated as dhimmy, or may be you think non-correct-type-of Muslims will be happy to be dhimmies, with some rights kindly given to you by Islamist rulers. I surely don't.

I enjoy socializing with women, having a drink, listening to music, having Buddhists around, I am tolerant for gays and lesbians, and I surely don't want someone with a turban to tell me what to do, or what not to do, under the threat of beating. Especially, if that guy got elected, made for himself a militia and now rules the place. I don't care how kind he can be, understand? I wil fight him for my lifestyle, and I understand why Israelis are fighting for their lifestyle. I also understand why Hamas is fighting for their lifestyle.

Why do you suggest Israel to annex Gaza? Why not Egypt? At least Egypt ruled Gaza until 67 and Arabs say the relations were cordial?

Read more about Gaza and its onginng march to a strict Islamism under Hamas, again elected by vast majority of Gazans. They you will have less ideas unbecoming an adult.

By the way Mr.Aden B, you need to learn more abut Gaza...Gaza is the not most populous spot on earth.
The 2009 population was 1,551,859, giving the region a population density of 4,311 persons per sq km (11,165 per sq mi).
In parts of Mumbai city there are more than 1 million people per square mile -- more than any other spot in the world.
Are you medicated or something??

Wild Cat & Merv Gillespie you guys win, I give up...See it is totally possible to cure ignorant and that why I was trying to share what I knew; but, in the light of your last posts it seems that you aren't just ignorant, you are stupid too; and, just like I said it to the supporters of all mighty dumb Bush Junior, there is no way to cure stupid, the best of choices is to stay away from stupid because stupidity is very contagious. So good luck and fair well to both of you...

And fair well to you too.
