Drilling in the Arctic waters of the U.S. may become as contested an issue as the Keystone Pipeline XL in up-coming months

potentially good news...Mr. Obama might listen (not certain), but we know Congress won't....they don't care at all about wishes of the public....we need to speak with our votes.....

Let's hope they listen but I no longer trust Obama on energy issues -or environmental issues.

This has become a political issue in an election year. When 573 scientists tell you not to do this then someone should listen. There's no way that a spill could be cleaned up especially in the winter where it would be impossible to get ice breakers there in time. This is just pure greed and needs to be stopped.

Thanks Cal, Irresponsible consumers (many billions) are the market drivers for these types of irresponsible activities.

Opposition grows as more people realize what a bad idea drilling in the Arctic is. Don't like Shell, don't buy their gas.

Politicians know it is a bad idea to drill in the arctic but the money from the oil companies is so tempting they cannot resist. The corrupt politicians backing the oil companies, gas companies, coal companies and chemical companies will destroy this planet.

No Arctic drilling! Lin also makes a good point above. Humanity must reduce its use of oil.
