Obama appears to be hemming in Israel at every turn. Case in point: A report in which unnamed US officials allege that Israel has obtained access to bases in Azerbaijan, on Iran's border.

Good, Bibi was too anxious for war at AIPAC. I would like to so Likud out of power.

This administration leak serves several purposes. One, it demonstrates to the world that US and Israeli interests are not always the same (whether they actually are or not); second, it allows the US to threaten Iran with war while washing our own hands of such threat ("OMG Iran! Look at what a threat that mean ol' Israel is!"), and thirdly, it eliminates the threat of secret alliances, one of the root causes that sucked so many nations into WWI. Iran cannot now unknowingly "provoke" Israel into war by attacking its (secret) ally.

I think that it defuses the possibility for war in the region not just by isolating Israel, but also by furthering the threat of war against Iran by showing them what sorts of machinations are being put into place around them.

Brilliant diplomacy, if it works.

A rush to arms, or an intelligent approach to dealing with a situation that will drag this country into yet another unpopular war? I prefer the latter and laud the Obama administration for its attempts to secure a peaceful resolution to this very volatile situation.

I hope that they are right. We do not need another war in the middle east.

I wish I could agree, President Obama has been made clear that the US remains committed to Israel’s security: he has given an “iron-clad” guarantee that the commitment stands.

I would not bet much on the “iron-clad” guarantee Obama gives out: Mubarak was a proven US ally, and got dumped like a garbage bag, with no mercy or compassion.

I don't see why Obama wants to protect Iranians so much - they are a threat to the Saudis, and Obama bowed to the Saudi King for a reason.

By all means lets listen to Mr. Bolton and Faux Noise to develop our foreign policy so we can start another mid-East war, get 20,000 of our best and brightest killed and another 100,000 wounded and an equal number of Israelis. That way the oil companies can really have a valid excuse to jack up the gas prices instead of the BS they're peddling now while they're exporting US oil. Dumb asses.
