A mining boom that has turned Canada's North into the country's fastest growing economy is threatening a vast stretch of the Yukon that is one of the continent's last unspoiled wildernesses.

Canada could still stop this, and protect their lands, should their leaders be pressured enough.

The Peel watershed is drained by seven major rivers that run untamed through mountain ranges and lush valleys where nature has been left largely to her own since the dawn of time.

+++++++++++++++++ And this jewel is to be EXPLOITED for human gain?

any mine is ok if they do it properly and use the land as well as they should. building on growing land is just as bad if they have a big hole next to it that they could fill in with a city and then put the top 50 foot onto the roofs of the city!

This Arctic place should be left for the wild creatures and those willing to travel lightly. Business as Usual is not acceptable.

Several TV programs encourage gold mining now - they all make the people involved look like idiots, but worse, they make it look like Anyone can get rich doing it..:(
