"Many factors are probably behind the trend, the report said, including ......... weakened U.S. job market and a long-term decline in Mexico's birth rates."

If the Catholic Church had not opposed Contraceptives, thus making them virtually out-of-reach for poor women and families, if this had been done say in the '50's, there would have been far, far less of a "problem" with poor and desperate people migrating to find work.

This is true of course, in many countries, notably now in Africa.
Mexicans are starting to break away from the Catholic Church, in droves! {As is happening in so many countries!} The Church no longer has the stranglehold it had in former years.....

In the U.S., 98% of Catholic women who are sexually active, have used Birth Control -- almost the same percentage as non-Catholic women. Catholic and non-Catholic women EVERYwhere, would use Birth Control artificial methods {not "rhythm method"} if they had the access to it. The Catholic Hierarchy's prohibitive attitude, makes Birth Control available only to the Wealthy of the countries where it is unavailable for the masses.....

Looks like everyone now knows the obvious: there are no jobs here.

Article doesn't distinguish between legal and illegal immigration. If one thinks all immigration is the same, the author has a problem and an unsympathetic reader.

Then why do the republicans, keep pushing for more and more restrictive laws which “in the future will restrict American citizens freedom"

Thanks Cal. Perhaps Mexico and other Central American countries are offering the necessities for survival, with a growing knowledge large families no longer are needed or wanted. The complexities of human tides - migration- is much different than earths oceans. Change is one thing they have in common.
Migration however, is more in tune with needs for survival and the resources required for the quantity demanding those resources. Quality and availability are other(among many)factors.

I'm surprised Cain isn't bragging that it's due to his threat of bar-b-queing anyone who touches his ten foot high electrified fence.
